Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 814: Chapter 788: No Wonder, No Wonder

”He’s a psychiatric patient transferred from the city, and he’s very aggressive.”

The director waved his hand, indicating the person should be taken to the isolation zone. The outpatient department and the inpatient department are just upstairs and downstairs. The stairs leading up were locked with an iron gate, and there was another world behind that door.

Qian silently listened to the person growl and roar. Those who could be brought in bound like this were the few aggressive patients she and Fugui mentioned. He must be classified into the high-risk zone, where personal freedom was restricted.

”The calligraphy on the wall is very nice.” Qian shifted her gaze to the calligraphy hanging in the corridor. The bold strokes were powerful and showed a high level of skill.

”Haha, this was written by a patient of ours. Hard to believe, right? I even have a Chinese painting in my office that was painted by another patient; they’re both excellent.”

”That’s why people say, ’Genius on the left, lunatic on the right.’”

Many psychiatric patients have more talent than normal people in certain areas. There is only a wall between genius and lunacy.

”Haha! That’s an interesting statement.” The director laughed.

”Why are you laughing?” Qian looked at him, puzzled.

”I’m laughing because your reaction is identical to someone else’s. Back then, someone came here and said the same thing. You two actually said the same words.”

”Really?”

If Qian remembered correctly, ”Genius on the left, lunatic on the right” was the title of a book that came out years later. Which colleague had the foresight to say it first?

”The more amusing thing is, you two responded exactly the same. Back then, he was also brought by me for a tour of the hospital. When he reached the same place as you, he was admiring the calligraphy on the wall. When I told him I had another patient’s painting in my office, he said, ’Genius on the left, lunatic on the right.’ You both had the same reaction.”

”... Who was that person?”

”He’s internationally renowned—”

”Meiwei! Are you Meiwei!”

The psychiatric patient who was being carried to the iron gate heard the conversation between Qian and the director and suddenly shouted this question.

Qian was stunned. How come she had an audience even here?

Her regular speaking voice was different from her broadcast voice. On air, her voice was very soft and sounded particularly magnetic when transmitted through the microphone. For someone to recognize her at once, they must have listened to her program often.

But the patient’s next words made Qian feel helplessly amused.

”Let go of me! I tell you, Meiwei is my wife! I want Meiwei to give me children! That unfaithful woman shouldn’t be working in the radio station. Meiwei, you’re mine, mine alone. You’re my—ugh!”

The patient’s mouth was covered, followed by the sound of the iron door being opened, and he was led into the inpatient department. Qian couldn’t know what would happen next.

”Don’t be afraid.” The director was also surprised to have a fan of Qian here. He had just been doing an old classmate a favor, helping get Qian to cover for a day, and ended up creating this unexpected incident.

”Nothing to be afraid of. He’s suffering from paranoid personality disorder, mainly manifesting delusions of persecution, possibly with jealousy, erotomania, hypochondria, and other delusions. It seems he has erotomania and is aggressive, and unfortunately... the object of his delusion is me.”

Qian responded professionally.

Coincidentally, the classmate whom Liumei and Fugui visited and was portraying himself as particularly miserable might have delusional disorder, and the one who just shouted that Meiwei was his wife was suffering from the same condition.

But delusional disorder comes in many types. Some people constantly think they are being persecuted, that would be persecutory delusions. The one just dragged in had erotomania, where a portion of themselves is exaggerated and believed to be true. For example, feeling exceptionally wealthy or believing they are an illegitimate child of a rich person, thinking certain individuals have fallen in love with them, usually choosing celebrities or unattainable people, like the man just now.

He was convinced that Meiwei fell in love with him first, but in fact, apart from hearing Qian’s program on the radio, they never had contact. Yet he insisted that Meiwei was deeply in love with him. When Qian mentioned comforting words to patients during her programs, he believed it was directed at him. His family had him forcibly sent to this psychiatric hospital after discovering he was preparing ropes and other tools to ”bring his woman” back from the radio station.

This type of erotomania is particularly terrifying, especially common among certain fan groups, where they stubbornly insist that a celebrity has fallen in love with them, possibly leading to acts of stalking, kidnapping, assault, or murder. Qian was unfortunately deluded by someone.

The patient, dragged inside, still refused to give up. He tried to pull on the small window with bars on the iron door to look outside, desperately wanting to see Qian. Meiwei was indeed beautiful; she loved him!

”Stop looking, come with us quickly!” Medical staff forcibly dragged him away, leaving deep scars on the mottled rusty iron bars, like his profound obsession with Meiwei...

Qian shook her head, being dreamt about by someone with delusional disorder made her feel extraordinarily lucky. Might as well buy a lottery ticket; who knows if she might win. Being thought about like this just from a radio broadcast without showing her face—not exactly a good thing. The station had recently asked if she wanted to join a TV talk show, offering considerable compensation, and thankfully Qian declined.

When disseminating psychological knowledge, she should still rely mainly on text. Better to limit her presence in sound or images; being fixated on by a psychiatric patient is not something ideal.

”Director, you haven’t finished yet. Who said the same thing to me?” Qian pursued.

”I say you must know this person; he is the world’s leading authority in psychology, Mr. Qio. In the international psychiatric circle, he’s absolutely a top authority.”

”Him?!”

Isn’t that the advisor her professor persistently wants her to follow?

The one she had tried in every way to avoid—and now, even in this small county town, she could hear about him?

”Yes, Mr. Qio’s reaction was precisely like yours.”

The twist of fate—the director still vividly remembered the first time Mr. Qio came. Such a prominent figure rarely appeared in small towns like this.

”Why would he come here?” Qian suddenly had a bad premonition.

”Although Mr. Qio is an overseas Chinese, his ancestral home is in the countryside near our county town. He returns annually to pay respects to his ancestors.”

”... When does he usually come?” Qian’s bad premonition grew stronger.

”Around these couple of days. Your professor said you should perform well here and requested that I introduce you to Mr. Qio. He would definitely like you when he sees you.”

No wonder, no wonder!!!! Several metaphorical lightning bolts struck across Qian’s mind.

Her professor had set her up!
