Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 813: Chapter 787: Most People Have Already Given Up on Treatment

Ma Lv looked at Yu Minglang, hidden in the mountains and forests, and had only one thought.

This time he is really leaving. During the stay in the mountains before departing, he felt a different atmosphere. The influence Yu Minglang’s family had on him was enormous, especially what Yu Minglang said would affect him for many years. Many years later, Ma Lv would still think of himself at this moment.

If he had realized and awakened earlier, would he have had a perfect love and family? Would he be able to integrate into the paradise in that man’s heart?

Unfortunately, as Yu Minglang said, the biggest lie in life is ”if.” There are no ”ifs.”

”Vice President, I can’t stand that kid. Why don’t you let me beat him up?” someone beside Yu Minglang asked him.

”There’s nothing to beat him for. His values are just different from ours. Not being suitable doesn’t mean he’s a bad person. He just hasn’t met someone who can influence and shake his values.”

Although Yu Minglang looked down on Ma Lv, he didn’t see him as worthless. The essence of a man’s ambition to make his family live well wasn’t wrong; Ma Lv just chose the wrong direction.

Yu Minglang looked at the sky. The sun was about to rise, and he wondered where Mei was going.

At that moment, Mei was trying to coax some information out of her brother in the car with ulterior motives.

”Looking at how miserable you all look, what exactly are you doing?”

”Secret!”

”Even if you don’t say, I know. Are you taking part in the selection for the Yu Family’s mining team?”

”How did you—um!” One of them was about to ask how she knew but was quickly silenced by another, indicating not to say anything that might leak information!

”Because my husband works there. By the way, I heard that your future Vice President is quite something; is that true?”

”He’s something alright...a real piece of work...dragged us to the mountains without telling us the location of the mine. That made us search all the way here, tiring us out.” one of the young men complained softly.

”Pfft!” Liumei laughed from the front seat. Sister-in-law, you’re really giving your husband a hard time. Who asks that about their husband?

Another one nudged him, indicating to be careful not to leak anything. The two young men stopped talking and got off the car at the intersection.

As soon as they got off, Liumei couldn’t help but laugh.

”Sister-in-law, if my brother knew you talked about him like that, he’d be really upset.”

”Upset about what? He’d secretly enjoy it. If you told him his employees criticized him, he’d take it as a compliment. But tell him they said he was like a meticulous caregiver, and that’s when he’d really be upset.”

”I don’t quite understand. Why does each recruitment always have to be so fraught, not just physically exhausting but also mentally taxing for people?”

”Xiaoqiang has his reasons. When he called earlier, it was clear that he was aware of everyone’s movements. Not divulging the specific location is also a part of recruitment. If someone truly has the skills, they can find their way on their own. The interview starts as soon as you enter the mountains. If Ma Lv had joined the Yu Family initially, his views might have been different under Xiaoqiang’s shaping.”

”Luckily, he didn’t...or else such a good girlfriend wouldn’t have been mine.” Fugui muttered quietly, and Liumei felt at ease.

Value the present, as the sister-in-law said, everyone is growing, and she is no exception.

Upon arriving at the county town of Liumei’s foster father’s home, Qian asked Fugui and Liumei to drop her off at the entrance of the psychiatric hospital.

”Sister-in-law, will you be okay on your own?”

Liumei looked at the sign for the mental health center and felt a thump in her heart. From the outside, it looked like any ordinary building, but for many, it was a mysterious area filled with all sorts of imaginings. Some may never visit such a place in their lifetime, but they’ve heard of it since childhood.

Jokingly, people would say to friends, ”You have a mental illness, right? Did you escape from a mental hospital?”

When children wouldn’t sleep, their grandparents would threaten them, ”If you don’t behave, the old lunatics from the mental hospital will come to take you away!”

That’s why Liumei always felt this place must be terrifying inside, wondering if there would be people strapped up in straitjackets or wearing shackles and handcuffs.

”There’s nothing to be afraid of. It’s not much different from other hospitals you’ve been to. There are departments just like in regular hospitals, with similar layouts. Even the inpatient department isn’t as you imagine, with everyone strapped down; those situations are rare. Psychiatric patients act quite normal when they’re not having episodes.”

Qian explained with a smile.

Fugui nodded, ”The mental health center’s inpatient department is divided into various wards based on the severity of conditions, each with different levels of restriction. It’s not as terrifying and dreadful as you imagine.”

”So the photos I’ve seen on forums aren’t real?” Liumei whispered, ”They talked about abuse...electric shock therapy if you misbehave?”

Fugui chuckled, ”The media loves to exaggerate. Because ordinary people seldom encounter this kind of information, it’s easy for them to demonize it. It’s not as dramatic as all that. It’s just that people haven’t been here. So when stories are paired with evocative images, it all seems like that. There are exceptions, but they’re not the rule.”

”Actually, if you spend time with patients with mental disorders, you’ll come back to reality and see some behaviors of the people around you that fit the diagnosis of mental illness. Sometimes, the patients in the mental hospital seem more normal than some of the incredible oddballs around us. It’s just that those people outside have given up on treatment.”

After Qian said this, she patted Liumei and left. Liumei watched her small figure slowly walk away, filled with admiration.

”My sister-in-law is simply a philosopher. Everything she says makes such sense.”

”If you’re interested, I can take you for a tour of the inpatient department at the mental disability recovery center next time. Once I’m transferred to Lishi, our forensic mental assessment department will move to the city’s mental health center.” Fugui moved his job for Liumei.

Liumei awkwardly shook her head, ”Uh, maybe not...”

Does Fugui mean he’ll be dealing with mental patients every day in the future?

She doesn’t have the mental resilience that Qian has. It’s better not to visit such places often. It’s alright to listen to Fugui talking about it, but it’s better to avoid seeing it herself.

Qian directly headed for the office area to find the dean. After explaining her purpose, the dean personally took her to the department.

As Qian walked along with the dean, she listened to his explanation of the situation. The mental health center in such a small place didn’t have good conditions—only a few doctors here. It was the only secondary Level B mental specialty hospital in the county, with inpatient conditions that couldn’t compare with those in city mental specialty hospitals, but it had the advantage of being inexpensive.

Just when Qian followed the dean, someone was brought in from outside tied up, loudly yelling, ”I’m not sick, let me out!”

The dean approached and asked the following doctor, ”What’s going on here?”
