Chapter 185: Chapter 185: Quick Recovery of Mood

Seeing the eldest grandson holding the cat and leaving, Tao Mo quietly went to the second living room, took Little Ni and Xiao Mo out of the fish tank, and placed them in two small fish tanks.

Little Ni he kept for himself, and Xiao Mo he handed over to his spouse with a twinkle in his eye.

Tian Leran got the message, nodded, and held the fish tank like it was a precious gem.

The two old folks hid the fish tanks behind their backs, walked past Liu Mingzhu, who was still in a daze, and Tao Tiancheng, who was still blaming himself, then went upstairs.

They were waiting for news from their eldest grandson. If he could use Kitty to contact their granddaughter again, they would be able to split up and use Little Ni and Xiao Mo to get close to their granddaughter once more; this time, they needed to be more careful and cautious.

By the time Tao Tiancheng and Liu Mingzhu came to their senses, the cat was gone, and so were the fish.

The couple looked at each other, seeing the bitterness and sorrow in each other’s eyes.

Liu Mingzhu said, “Let’s wait a bit more. She is still too young. Maybe when she grows up, she’ll be able to accept us gradually.”

Tao Tiancheng sighed deeply, “Her guard is too strong, it’s very difficult.”

“It’s our fault. We lost her, and she was abused by Zhang Cuilian, was deprived of love, and developed such a strong defense… They say the shadow of childhood requires a lifetime to heal. Do we have to wait a lifetime to hear a single ‘mommy’?” Liu Mingzhu squatted down desperately, hugged her knees, and buried her head in tears.

Tao Tiancheng squatted down and wrapped his arms around her, sighing silently.

He also didn’t know how to comfort his wife, feeling equally sad and downhearted.

The little girl who should have been treasured had suffered so much, he didn’t even dare to contemplate deeply.

To contemplate was to feel a pain as if his heart was being wrung out.

Tao Mo, leaning on his cane, went downstairs and saw the couple hugging each other, squatting on the ground, unable to pull themselves out of their sorrow.

The old master walked towards them with heavy steps and struck the ground hard with his cane, creating an even louder sound.

Both looked up simultaneously; Liu Mingzhu’s eyes were red with crying, looking pitiable, while Tao Tiancheng had a blank face, looking like an utter fool.

The old man couldn’t even bear to look at this pathetic sight, and he struck the ground once again with his cane, “Useless things! When a business deal fails, you know to keep trying, never giving up, to be more determined with each setback! But just one rejection from the granddaughter, and you shrink back, despair, and get lost in sorrow? How old are you? At this age, have you regressed back into your mother’s womb?”

Tian Leran, coming downstairs and hearing this, frowned in disdain, “My stomach isn’t that big; it can’t fit someone so big, robust, and silly!”

Tao Tiancheng, “…”

Already feeling hopeless, to now be scolded by the old master and disdained by the old mother, it’s too much!

“You’re so grown up and still squatting on the floor! Get up, both of you, now!” the old master roared, continuing to thud his cane on the ground.

Tao Tiancheng looked at the ground; the overburdened floorboard now had a hole.

Tao Tiancheng helped his wife to stand up, and the two middle-aged people, scolded like errant children, dared not lift their heads.

“I’m not just saying this for nothing; it’s just one rejection! I’m telling you, even if you are rejected a hundred times, a thousand times, a million times, you can’t give up!”

“You need to have the spirit to become stronger with each setback, come up with good strategies, make the granddaughter accept us, bring her back to the Tao family!”

“Pull yourselves together, why bow your heads like defeated roosters? Lift your heads up!”

Tao Tiancheng and Liu Mingzhu exchanged glances, not daring to keep their heads down any longer, hurriedly raising them high.

The old master was still discontent, striking the ground fiercely with his cane, “Why lift your heads so high? What is there for you to be so proud of, to puff out your chests about? Lower your heads!”

Tao Tiancheng looked desperate, “…”

You asked us to lift our heads, and yet you’re the one who finds it unpleasant when we do!

The couple obediently lowered their heads once more, continuing to endure the scolding.

The old man was long-winded, speaking until his mouth was dry. Tian Leran brought up a cup of tea at the right moment. The old man drank a cup of tea and went on tirelessly…

Little Taotie, back at Cheng Guodong’s place, recovered quickly and took Hua Jinyan to visit her room, introducing him to her very first stuffed bear.

“Shall we continue making kites?” she asked, her large eyes sparkling with hope.

Hua Jinyan naturally wouldn’t refuse, and nodded.

Cheng Guodong, who had been observing Little Taotie, sighed, “I was worried she would continue to be downhearted, but I didn’t expect her to bounce back so quickly.”

Qin Xin furrowed his brows tightly, “The quicker the recovery, the worse it is.”
