Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Rejecting Because of Fear

Little Taotie recalled the appearance of the twin siblings, tiny eyes, flat noses… without dimples!

She secretly rounded her eyes to observe Tao Shen’s features, not quite the same eyes, nose seemed similar, mouth seemed similar, face shape seemed similar… and the exact same dimples!

The scales in Little Taotie’s heart slowly tipped…

She quietly glanced at Tao Bin who had wanted to tease his sister and make eye contact, but, being fiercely watched by Tao Shen, had no choice but to divert his gaze, pretending not to notice his sister’s sneaky looks.

Little Taotie looked into Tao Bin’s eyes and whispered softly in her heart: Not alike!

She then looked at Tao Bin’s nose, whispering softly to herself: A little bit alike.

Next were the mouth, the face shape, and the dimples!

In the end, the scales completely tipped in favor of the Tao brothers.

Compared to the twin siblings, she indeed resembled their sister more.

In fact, if it wasn’t for Spirit Grandpa telling her she was not his biological granddaughter, Little Taotie would not be willing to believe any of this at all.

She looked towards Grandpa Fensi, then Grandma Fensi, and finally, with caution, her gaze landed on Tao Tiancheng and Liu Mingzhu as a couple.

At first, the mountain mom would coax her, the mountain dad would lift her high and buy her sugar paintings.

Although the memories were very vague, as the dreams of Little Beast Bai Bai increased, her memories of when she was very, very small would begin to fade in.

When she was still a baby, the mountain mom’s face was so gentle, her voice so soft, her smile so tender…

Ever since the birth of the twin siblings, the mountain mom and dad didn’t like her anymore, they loathed her, thinking she was superfluous.

So she was well-behaved, worked hard at everything trying to gain their affection, but it was all in vain; they simply didn’t like her, no matter how hard she tried…

She was scared…

She was afraid that after accepting them, they would become like the mountain mom and dad, suddenly telling her they didn’t like her anymore.

If she was going to lose them anyway, it would be better never to have had them at all…

Little Taotie buried her little head in Qin Xin’s arms and said softly, “Second brother, I want to leave this place, I don’t want to stay here anymore.”

“I respect your decision.”

Qin Xin directly picked up Little Taotie and walked out. Cheng Guodong blocked the Tao family members trying to follow, with a stern voice, “Give her some time, don’t press too hard.”

Hua Jinyan caught up and looked up, “Little Taotie, can I go with you?”

Little Taotie, buried in Qin Xin’s embrace, nodded slightly, softly, “Mhm.”

Cheng Guodong didn’t really want to bring the bratty kid, but since his sister had agreed, he could only take Hua Jinyan’s hand and catch up with Qin Xin.

After they left, the Tao family fell into a prolonged silence.

Eventually, Tao Bin couldn’t stand the deathly silence any longer, scratched his head, and burst out, “I’m going back to the temple!”

Nobody stopped him, everyone needed time to calm down and sort out their emotions.

After a while, Tao Tiancheng spoke with bitterness, “It’s all my fault.”

Tao Shen’s eyelids drooped, although the defensiveness and fear in his sister’s eyes were fleeting, he had clearly caught them.

Even if the revelation of their identities hadn’t come early, even if they thought they had gotten close to her and it was almost time to tell her the truth, she would not have been able to acknowledge it.

That defensiveness and fear were the looks of a small animal that had been hurt.

Just like a cat that had been abused, it could never trust humans again in this lifetime.

Thinking of the cat, Tao Shen’s eyes brightened; it wasn’t impossible to slowly resolve everything.

Tao Shen searched the living room, then headed to the courtyard, finding Little Lion who had turned himself into a little mud cat in the flower bed.

Tao Shen picked him up, the corners of his mouth lifting, “Come, let’s clean you up, then go find your little master.”
