Chapter 171: Chapter 171 Dragon and Phoenix Twins Cry and Plead

Cheng Guodong, Qin Xin, and Tao Shen, accompanied by Tao Ti, arrived at the police station, where the atmosphere was somewhat oppressive. Two female police officers had red eyes, as if they had been crying.

“Please take a seat,” an older police officer said, first offering an apology. He continued, “You may go back. This matter does not concern you, we will make proper arrangements for the two children.”

Cheng Guodong, originally full of anger, calmed down unexpectedly and took several more glances at the seasoned officer.

The voice on the other end of the phone call he had received belonged to a female police officer, likely one of the two they had just seen.

It appeared that the old officer had given them a talking-to.

“Since we’re here, let us at least see the children,” Qin Xin said with a smile.

The old officer looked at the little girl, who nodded her head, “I want to see my twin brother and sister!”

He then took them to the rest area, where the children had been staying. They were nestled on the sofa under blankets, with fruit and snacks on the table.

Upon seeing visitors, the twin sister was about to greet Tao Ti as her sister and act obediently, just as her brother had instructed.

But upon seeing Tao Ti in a beautiful dress and the pearl bag on her back, and noting Tao Ti’s face, prettier than ever, jealousy stirred inside her.

The villagers had mocked her for her small eyes, not as good-looking as Tao Ti’s, and now the difference was even more pronounced.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, yelling out, “Broom Star, you live the good life, never sparing a thought for how hard it is for my brother and me! What kind of sister are you! Now you’re a star, eating and dressing well, so rich, and yet you let my brother and I go hungry!”

“Sister!”

“I’m not wrong! That family even said behind our backs that it was all because of you that our parents got taken away. You’re the Broom Star, you ruined my parents’ lives!”

“Shut your mouth!”

“Broom Star, I demand that you take care of my brother and me! Mmm… mmm!”

The twin brother quickly covered her mouth and turned apologetically to Little Taotie, “Sister, I’m sorry. My sister has suffered a lot, so she’s speaking nonsense. Don’t be mad at her. Those people beat and scold us, and they don’t give us food. We’ve really had a rough time and missed you so much…”

Little Taotie hung her head, seemingly lost in thought.

Cheng Guodong wanted to offer consolation but was stopped by Qin Xin, and even Tao Shen did not step forward hastily, instead observing the situation.

Tao Shen naturally did not want his sister to deal with these ingrates, but she had a deep affection for their grandfather. It was his dying wish.

The decision should be hers to make.

It was time for his sister to learn to grow up.

“Sister, we’ve really been through a lot. Every morning, before the rooster even crows, we have to get up to catch bugs and feed the chickens. Everyone else would be asleep at night, yet we haven’t finished washing the dishes. We also have to empty the washing water for everyone’s face and feet…”

The twin sister, her mouth no longer covered, instantly had tears brimming in her eyes when she heard her brother’s words, trembling as she remembered the torture they endured.

When her brother released her mouth, she cried out, “That old woman, she would stick needles in me, burn my hair with fire, scald the soles of my feet, and sear my back with cigarette butts…”

“Sister, save us, take us away. Just give us a meal, a warm house. We won’t trouble you; we will be good!” The twin brother stepped forward, trying to grasp Tao Ti’s hand.

Suddenly, Little Taotie took a step back, avoiding the touch.
