Chapter 173: Chapter 173: Shedding Crocodile Tears

Cheng Guodong frantically started to soothe his twin sister, utterly unprepared that the issue with the twins had not been settled, and now Tao Shen’s biological father was causing more trouble.

They had clearly agreed to let Little Taotie gradually accept the Tao family members, but now he had blurted it out; what was this supposed to mean!

Tao Tiancheng wanted to step forward to comfort her, but was stopped by Tao Shen, who said with annoyance, “Dad, what’s going on? You’re going to scare her like this; didn’t we agree to take things slow and let her gradually accept us?”

Tao Tiancheng was full of regret, his face etched with remorse, “I saw her being bullied, and I couldn’t hold back and just blurted it out.”

Qin Xin crouched down, looked at Little Taotie with tears in her eyes, gently tapped her little nose, and softly said, “Don’t worry, with your big brother and second brother here, no bad guys can take you away; now we should first deal with the problem at hand. What did we come to the police station for?”

With a tearful voice, Little Taotie answered, “To see the twin brother and sister.”

“Now that you have seen them, and they want to go with you, are you willing to take them home with you?”

Upon hearing this, Little Taotie pursed her lips and became silent.

“You don’t want to in your heart, but because of Grandpa, you don’t know what to do, right?” Qin Xin asked, persuading thoughtfully.

Little Taotie nodded her head.

“Do you still remember what Grandpa told you?”

“Grandpa said, just don’t let them starve; if…if they treat me the same way they used to, that oblivious, I don’t have to force myself, I don’t have to bother with them.”

Qin Xin smiled, “Good children listen to Grandpa’s words. Grandpa said if they are not nice to you, you don’t have to bother with them; what are you still hesitating for?”

Cheng Guodong felt that his second brother, when he smiled, resembled a wicked fox tempting someone into sin.

“So I… should ignore them?”

Qin Xin smiled, “You also want to take care of them, but you can’t go against your grandpa’s last wishes, can you? So you have to ignore them.”

“Even if they starve, I don’t have to bother?” Little Taotie tilted her head, her big eyes filled with confusion, feeling something was not right.

Qin Xin smiled, “They managed to make it to the police station, how could they possibly starve? You don’t need to worry. Grandpa told you not to bother with them, are you not going to listen to Grandpa?”

“I always listen to Grandpa!”

Little Taotie mustered the courage and said to the twin brother and sister, “Grandpa told me not to bother with you, so I won’t. If you can’t get enough to eat, you can find a police officer!”

She glanced at the snacks and drinks on the table, and snorted through her little nose, “You won’t starve!”

Seeing that she really was not going to bother with them anymore, the twin sister got scared as well, dared not blame anyone anymore, and helplessly looked at her brother.

The twin brother was inwardly furious; if it weren’t for his foolish sister’s blabbering that angered these people, they wouldn’t have messed everything up!

The twin brother rubbed his hands together, his face begging for mercy, pitifully said, “Sister, sister knows she was wrong, we are all just kids, please forgive us?”

Tao Shen laughed aloud, “My sister is only six years old too, cut out the drama, stop acting pitiful.”

“Sister, we really can’t go on like this, please take us with you, we are the real family, blood is thicker than water, we are your real siblings!” the twin brother cried, his tears earnest as he looked at Little Taotie, ignoring Tao Shen’s sarcasm.

Finally, the twin sister got smart, trying hard to squeeze out a few crocodile tears, sobbing loudly, “Sister, I know I was wrong, please forgive me, can we live together? I will be very good, I can share many burdens with you, performances you don’t want to attend, I can go for you!”
