The Lovely Heiress Is Actually A God Beast

Chapter 147: Chapter 147: There Must Be Something Despicable About A Pitiable Person Chapter 147: Chapter 147: There Must Be Something Despicable About A Pitiable Person Cheng Guodong and Qin Xin exchanged glances as they entered the second living room.

They had already investigated the current circumstances of the twin boy and girl.

How should they put it…

If it weren’t for the fact that these two children had been so terrible before, they’d actually be quite pitiable and sigh-worthy.

The twins’ parents had been arrested, and their grandfather was unconscious in the hospital, leaving the two children with no one to care for them. The police found their relatives and asked them to take care of the children.

This kind of care came without payment, and the mountain folks who neglected their own kids and barely looked after them wouldn’t pay much attention to distant relatives’ children either; as long as they didn’t starve, it was fine.

Both children were living off others’ graces. Compared to Little Taotie of the past, they were even worse off.

Little Taotie still had his grandfather’s protection, and sometimes Zhang Cuilian, thinking that if something happened to this child, something might happen to her own boy and girl, refrained from being too harsh. Although she did hit him, she never went as far as to beat him to death.

But as the news of Zhang Cuilian and her husband’s imprisonment reached the mountain village, the family that temporarily took in the twins was displeased. They felt that they might end up having to care for them indefinitely, whereas they had originally planned to provide for them for only a month or two. Now it looked as though it might be years.

The matriarch of that household was vicious and favored boys over girls. Having gone as far as to smother her own granddaughter for being female, how could she possibly treat the twins well?

After learning of Zhang Cuilian’s imprisonment, the old woman started tormenting the twins, ordering them to do laundry, wipe tables, and mop the floor, leaving all the household chores to them.

The twins, who had been pampered from a young age, were hardly likely to obey.

Disobedience meant punishment, not with a slap of the hand or a stick or broom, but with needles, burns, and relentless torment.

Within a month, the two children had become obedient and silent. In addition to handling all the chores for the family, they were also mistreated when it came to food, unable to eat anything fresh and having to settle for leftovers every day.

The children of that household were also wicked, having been envious of the twins’ pampered upbringing during prior holiday gatherings. Now, with the chance to trample on them, the malicious children would spit in the leftovers and sometimes deliberately eat so much that they would not leave a morsel, delighting in watching the twins go hungry.

Cheng Guodong had received photos from Assistant Wang, depicting the current state of the twins.

Compared to their initial appearance on a variety show, they were completely unrecognizable.

The once-plump boy and girl had become so thin that their original features were indistinguishable, their faces and bodies filthy, hands covered in frostbite.

Cheng Guodong pulled out the photos on his phone and showed them to Qin Xin.

Qin Xin glanced at them, his eyes showing no emotion, a smile playing on his lips, “Isn’t this the cycle of karma?”

Cheng Guodong sighed, “After all, they are children; their past Evil Thoughts were just a result of Zhang Cuilian’s instigation. They are indeed quite pitiable now.”

“Save your sympathy.” Qin Xin said indifferently, “Human nature is fundamentally evil. If you hadn’t transferred your sister out of that malicious company, she would be their cash cow by now. These children would live off of her, take advantage of her, and still be unsatisfied, like greedy leeches.”

Cheng Guodong sighed again, “Having gone through what my sister once did, maybe they’ve had some realizations, maybe they have changed.”

“Tch!” Qin Xin looked at him sideways, “It’s fortunate you made it by farming and are conservative in your expansion. You’ve never thought about collaborating with foreigners. If you had been to the international markets, you would have been gobbled up by the capitalist sharks so thoroughly that not even remnants would remain.”
