Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Ye Xiu Looks for a Job and Is Despised

The nurse led Qin Ming to the director’s office door and knocked. ”Director, Qin Ming is here to see you.”

With that, she left.

A frivolous voice then called from inside the office.

”Come in!”

Carrying a travel bag, Qin Ming pushed the door open and was met with a shameless scene.

The beautiful secretary was sitting on the lap of Jiao Fuping, the director of Wankang Wellness Hall. Jiao Fuping’s hand was... Qin Ming quickly averted his gaze.

”What can I do for you, Mr. Qin?”

Jiao Fuping glanced at the travel bag in Qin Ming’s hand before shifting his attention and energy back to the secretary, not bothering to restrain himself just because an outsider was present. Jiao Fuping fully subscribed to the cynical adage: a secretary for business, and a secretary for pleasure.

”Director Jiao, I’ve gathered the money for my mother’s surgery. I hope you can operate on her as soon as possible.”

Qin Ming walked over and placed the travel bag on the desk, his face expressionless. He was unfazed by Jiao Fuping and his secretary’s behavior, having seen far worse.

”Oh?”

Jiao Fuping glanced at the bag and patted the secretary’s rear.

The secretary immediately understood his meaning. She got up, opened the travel bag, and dumped all the cash onto the desk. After counting, she reported to Jiao Fuping, ”1,000,000!”

”Tsk, tsk. Mr. Qin, you certainly have a knack for making money, managing to get 1,000,000 in just half a month.” A brilliant smile spread across Jiao Fuping’s face. Since this simpleton is so good at making money, why not milk him for more?

He put on a regretful expression.

”It’s a pity, though. 1,000,000 still isn’t enough!”

Qin Ming’s expression turned grim. ”Half a month ago, you told me yourself that 1,000,000 was all I needed for my mother’s surgery.”

”True, I did say that. And the surgery itself does indeed cost 1,000,000.” Jiao Fuping shrugged. ”But over the past half-month, you haven’t paid for your mother’s stay at Wankang Wellness Hall—her hospitalization, nursing care, meals, medicine, and chemotherapy. On top of that, the cost of post-operative care is a very large sum...”

After hearing this, Qin Ming’s face became utterly ghastly. He asked through gritted teeth, ”How much more do you need?”

Jiao Fuping pretended to think for a moment. ”The various fees for the past half-month add up to 150,000—about 10,000 a day. Post-operative care is much more expensive. Given your mother’s condition, she’ll need 24-hour monitoring, the best medicine, and her room will have to be upgraded to a private convalescent room. She’ll need to convalesce for at least three months. Let me just calculate...”

He picked up a calculator from his desk, tapped a few keys, and continued, ”A rough calculation comes to about 2,000,000. Of course, that doesn’t include the fees incurred while you’re raising that 2,000,000. If you can get the money by tomorrow, 2,000,000 will be enough. If not, we’ll add 10,000 for every extra day.”

”But...” Qin Ming’s face turned deathly pale as he pleaded, ”Director Jiao, this 1,000,000 is my absolute limit. I really can’t raise any more money. Please, have a heart and save my mother. I’ll be indebted to you for the rest of my life.”

”Mr. Qin, your mother has a terminal illness. Is 2,000,000 too much to save a life?” Jiao Fuping said sternly. ”Of course, I’m not the only one in the world who can cure her. The Xuanse Medicine King, Ye Xiu, probably could, and maybe the Ghost Doctor as well. But they charge even more—at least 10,000,000.”

”I really can’t get 2,000,000,” Qin Ming said, his face a mask of despair.

”Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Pressure creates motivation. I believe Mr. Qin will be able to earn 2,000,000, or even more, in no time,” Jiao Fuping encouraged him. Then he ignored Qin Ming completely, focusing his attention on fondling the secretary in his lap.

Seeing this, Qin Ming knew that Jiao Fuping would never operate on his mother unless he came up with 2,000,000.

He packed the 1,000,000 from the desk back into the travel bag and left the office.

Feeling utterly disheartened, Qin Ming walked out of Wankang Wellness Hall and sat down on the curb. He pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lit one, and took a deep drag. I’m still short at least another 1,000,000! Where am I supposed to get that much money? The number felt like a great mountain suddenly crushing him, making it hard to breathe.

Ever since his mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness, his relatives and friends had avoided him like the plague. Everyone knew that a terminal illness was a bottomless pit, and no one dared to lend him money.

Mom, don’t worry. I’ll get the money for your surgery even if it costs me my life. A fierce glint flashed in Qin Ming’s eyes, as though he had just made a decision he had been agonizing over for a long time.

”Excuse me, got a light?” a voice suddenly asked from beside him.

Qin Ming looked up to see a young man with a cigarette dangling from his lips standing next to him. Without a word, he passed over his lighter.

Ye Xiu took it, lit his cigarette, and handed the lighter back. He then sat down beside Qin Ming and asked, ”You’re frowning and look troubled. Are you in some kind of trouble?”

”It’s nothing!” Qin Ming had no desire to engage with this stranger who was clearly trying to force a conversation.

”I have some influence in Han Jin City. If you’re in trouble, I might be able to help,” Ye Xiu said.

Qin Ming gave Ye Xiu a long, hard look, then stood up, grabbed his travel bag, and walked away.

My father-in-law is a cautious one, huh? Ye Xiu chuckled to himself but didn’t follow. He decided not to reveal his identity to Qin Ming just yet. He would wait until he figured out why Qin Ming was at Wankang Wellness Hall, what he was doing in Han Jin City, and before Qin Qing and his mother-in-law arrived.

After finishing his cigarette, Ye Xiu entered Wankang Wellness Hall.

”Sir, are you here for medical treatment or a wellness program?” a nurse greeted him warmly.

”I’m here to apply for a job,” Ye Xiu replied with a smile.

The nurse’s enthusiasm instantly vanished. ”We aren’t hiring right now. You can leave,” she said coldly.

Such a drastic change in attitude? That’s not the kind of conduct you expect from a medical professional. Ye Xiu’s first impression of Wankang Wellness Hall was abysmal.

He pressed on, ”I’m a very skilled doctor. Hiring me will guarantee that Wankang Wellness Hall becomes the number one hospital in Han Jin City.”

”Why are you being such a nuisance? I already told you we’re not hiring! Besides, you’re so young and full of hot air. How good could your medical skills possibly be? Get out, get out! If you don’t leave right now, I’m calling security!” the nurse shooed him away impatiently.

Ye Xiu frowned. If the nurse’s conduct is this poor, one can well imagine that Wankang Wellness Hall is no good. What is Qin Ming doing here?

Just then, Jiao Fuping walked over. ”What’s going on?”

”Director!” The nurse’s demeanor instantly became sycophantic. She pointed at Ye Xiu and said, ”This man says he’s looking for a job and claims he’s a very skilled doctor...”

Jiao Fuping looked down at Ye Xiu with disdain. ”He looks like trash. Tell him to get lost.”

Ye Xiu’s eyes narrowed. A fish rots from the head down. The director is like this, so it’s no wonder the nurse’s conduct is so poor.

But Jiao Fuping himself was a great surprise. The director of Wankang Wellness Hall was only in his early twenties, yet he possessed the strength of a War God.

”Hey! Our director told you to get lost! Hurry up and scram!” the nurse said, shoving Ye Xiu.
