Chapter 371: Chapter 371 Too Much Bullying

”My dear granddaughter, come, sit by Grandpa,” Qin Fugui beckoned Qin Qing affectionately. Then, he said to her cousin, Qin Junyi, ”Junyi, go out and have a smoke with Lu Zewei.”

Qin Junyi was momentarily stunned but quickly understood the old man’s intention. He was being told to go out and stall Lu Zewei, buying the Qin family time to persuade Qin Qing.

Seeing Qin Junyi run out, Qin Qing asked, ”Who is Lu Zewei?”

”I’ll tell you in a bit.” Qin Fugui signaled for Qin Qing to be quiet for now. He then turned to Chloe, who was following closely behind her, and said, ”You, go out too.”

Chloe paid no attention to Qin Fugui.

”I told you to go out, didn’t you hear me?” Qin Fugui scolded. He despised this foreign woman. Earlier at noon, Chloe had suddenly gone berserk, smashing everyone’s wine glasses before dragging Qin Qing away. They still hadn’t even settled the lunch bill.

Chloe stood behind Qin Qing, her head lowered in silence.

”Hey, you foreign woman, don’t you understand the Xuanse language? My grandpa is telling you to get out,” Qin Anruo snapped.

Chloe remained silent, as if she had tuned out all sound.

The Qin family grew irritated.

SLAM!

Qin Anruo’s father, Qin Zhongwu, slammed the table and stood up, shouting furiously, ”Get out! Tonight is a Qin family dinner. What’s an outsider like you doing here? Get out!”

”Qin Qing, tell her to leave,” Qin Anruo’s mother, He Qing, ordered.

Qin Qing sat down leisurely in the seat beside Qin Fugui, her face expressionless as she said, ”Chloe is Ye Xiu’s subordinate, under orders to protect me. No one can command her except for Ye Xiu, and that includes me.”

Her words were a subtle way of telling the Qin family that she was very angry.

Indeed, she was furious. Chloe, the young lady of the Mohei Family, had served her and Ye Xiu with such tireless dedication. Qin Qing had always felt a sense of guilt about it. If she didn’t take a stand for Chloe now, wouldn’t she be breaking Chloe’s heart?

”My dear granddaughter, Grandpa has something to say to you. It isn’t appropriate for an outsider to be here,” Qin Fugui said, suppressing his anger and trying to sound pleasant.

”You can say anything you want in front of Chloe. I have no secrets from her,” Qin Qing stated, pointing to the adjacent seat. ”Chloe, sit.”

Moved by her words, Chloe looked at Qin Qing and sat down.

”You...” Qin Fugui could no longer hold back and was about to erupt in fury. His own granddaughter was siding with a foreigner against him! This was outrageous! Still, he managed to control himself. Taking a deep breath, he forced a kindly smile and said, ”My dear granddaughter, Anruo is dating a young man named Lu Zewei. He’s the son of the wealthiest man in Chunhua City. We were all supposed to meet him for lunch today, but something came up for him at the last minute, so we rescheduled for tonight’s dinner.”

So that was it! Qin Qing realized that as Qin Anruo’s cousin, she indeed should have come to this dinner.

Wait a minute! She suddenly paused and asked, ”Grandpa, is Lu Zewei’s father Lu Runtao, the chairman of Tongxin Hall Pharmaceutical Group?”

”Yes!” Qin Fugui nodded. ”Have you heard of Lu Runtao?”

Heard of him? I’ve done more than that. I was there ten years ago when Lu Runtao came to Jin Ye City to discuss a partnership with Ye Xiu.

Ignoring her grandfather’s question, Qin Qing turned to Qin Anruo. ”Anruo, how long have you known Lu Zewei?”

”We met at a banquet last year when Lu Zewei was in Jin Ye City on business, and we’ve kept in touch on WeChat ever since. He came back to Jin Ye City on business three days ago, asked to see me, and confessed his feelings. He said it was love at first sight...” Qin Anruo recounted her story with Lu Zewei, her face glowing with happiness.

Meanwhile, Qin Qing’s expression grew colder and colder. Ye Xiu had just announced his collaboration with the Bao family to enter the medical field, and suddenly Lu Zewei showed up in Jin Ye City on business. On top of that, the Lu family was in the pharmaceutical business, and the target of Lu Zewei’s confession was the cousin of Ye Xiu’s wife.

Hah! The scheme was so obvious, yet her family hadn’t seen it at all.

After Qin Anruo finished, Qin Fugui said, ”My dear granddaughter, Grandpa has a suggestion.”

”I’m listening,” Qin Qing replied, all ears.

”The Lu family is the wealthiest in Chunhua City. Lu Zewei’s father’s personal assets alone are in the tens of billions, and the entire Lu family’s fortune is nearly twenty billion. If Lu Zewei wants to marry Anruo, the Lu family is likely to object,” Qin Fugui sighed.

Qin Qing didn’t respond, quietly waiting for him to continue.

”What I mean is this...” Qin Fugui took a sip of tea, choosing his words carefully before he went on. ”To show our sincerity, and to make the Lu family feel that the Qin family is a worthy match, shouldn’t we present a gift when we first meet Lu Zewei?”

Oh, so this was the real reason they wanted me here for dinner!

”If you want to give a gift, then give one,” Qin Qing said evasively.

”As the elders, we will certainly give something. But what I mean is, as Anruo’s older cousin, don’t you think you should also make a gesture?” Qin Fugui asked with a smile.

Instantly, everyone in the Qin family turned to look at Qin Qing.

”How much do you think would be appropriate for me to offer?” Qin Qing asked.

”Anruo and Lu Zewei have just made their relationship official, so the gift doesn’t need to be too large. Just a casual 50,000,000 will do. For you, a sum like that is just a drop in the bucket,” Qin Fugui said with an air of extravagance, as if 50,000,000 was nothing.

Qin Qing’s face paled with anger. ”Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle, Aunt, Anruo gets a boyfriend, and you want me to give a ’first meeting’ gift? It’s been a long time since Ye Xiu and I got our marriage certificate. As my elders, have any of you given so much as a single penny?”

The smiles on the faces of Qin Fugui and the other family members froze instantly.

After a moment, Qin Fugui recovered and gave a forced laugh. ”Ye Xiu isn’t short on money.”

”Is the Lu family short on money?” Qin Qing retorted.

Qin Fugui was left speechless.

SLAM!

Her uncle, Qin Zhongwu, slammed his hand on the table. ”Qin Qing, how dare you speak to your grandfather like that? You have no respect!”

Her aunt, He Qing, chimed in, ”It’s true we didn’t give you a gift when you and Ye Xiu registered your marriage. Your parents don’t need to contribute to Anruo’s wedding either. But as her older cousin, what reason do you have not to?”

”Qin Qing, let me make this clear,” her grandmother, Liu Xiaocui, said sternly. ”To ensure Anruo marries into a good family and to remove any obstacles to her marriage with Lu Zewei, you will give this 50,000,000 today. You’ll give it whether you want to or not.”

”Qin Zhongwen, are you and your wife mute?” Qin Fugui barked at Qin Qing’s parents, signaling them to persuade her.

Trembling with fear, Qin Zhongwen quickly pleaded, ”Qin Qing, why don’t you just give them the 50,000,000? After all, a sum like that is nothing to you.”

Qin Qing’s mother, Wu Meiyu, opened her mouth but couldn’t bring herself to pressure her own daughter. She was seething with internal anger. If only she hadn’t married such a coward, her daughter would never have to endure being cornered by her own family like this.

”Wu Meiyu, are you mute?” Qin Fugui berated.
