Chapter 353: Chapter 353: Catch Up to Me, and I’ll Let You

”Elder Jin, please wait a moment!”

Ye Xiu took the Dragon Sparrow Sword and walked up to the number one rough stone, sizing it up from top to bottom.

This scene left everyone present in awe, though they didn’t fully understand why. What is Divine Doctor Ye going to do?

They waited for a full ten minutes. Suddenly, Ye Xiu made his move!

With a sound as magnificent as a dragon and phoenix chorusing together, the Dragon Sparrow Sword was unsheathed.

Holding the Dragon Sparrow, Ye Xiu began to hack and carve at the number one rough stone.

GASP!

Everyone was stunned. Now they understood what Ye Xiu was up to: he was carving the number one rough stone right here on the spot.

The onlookers were green with envy once more.

The members of the Jin Family were grinning from ear to ear, especially Jin Peng, whose cheeks ached from smiling so much.

Divine Doctor Ye is carving this by hand! Even if he carves a mere broken stone or rotten wood, even if the final product is unsightly, it would still sell for a sky-high price. This is the celebrity effect!

After a moment of elation, Jin Peng leaned toward Jin Lian and asked softly, ”Jin Lian, tell me honestly, how did you manage to invite Divine Doctor Ye here?”

”I told him today was your eightieth birthday and simply took a chance on inviting him. I never expected him to not only agree, but also offer to give you a birthday gift,” Jin Lian whispered, her heart filled with delight. After all, she was the one who had brought Ye Xiu, and his presence reflected well on her.

”Then why didn’t Divine Doctor Ye reveal his real name after he arrived?” Jin Peng asked.

This question made Jin Lian’s expression turn serious. ”I suspect he was using this to test the Jin Family,” she whispered. ”If you had failed to distinguish right from wrong earlier, helped Fei Xiang take revenge on him, or even said something unpleasant, he probably would have just turned around and left. He would have taken the number one rough stone with him, too. Then, our family would have lost all hope of getting a share of the medical field.”

Upon hearing this, Jin Peng broke out in a cold sweat. He said with lingering fear, ”That was too close! But judging by Divine Doctor Ye’s attitude towards me, it seems I passed the test, right?”

”Yes!” Jin Lian nodded with a smile. ”The Jin Family should be able to get a piece of that huge cake in the medical field.”

Erk!

Hearing this, Jin Peng was so overjoyed he almost fainted. If Jin Lian hadn’t steadied him, he would have collapsed.

”Steady yourself,” Jin Lian advised quietly.

”Steady, I’m steady. Right, I must keep my composure. I can’t have Divine Doctor Ye thinking I’m not someone who can be entrusted with important matters.”

Jin Peng took a deep breath and forced a serious, dignified expression onto his face. Three seconds later, he couldn’t hold it in any longer, and a grin split his face from ear to ear.

He was just too happy!

An hour and a half passed.

Ye Xiu finally stopped.

The dense cloud of dust surrounding the number one rough stone dissipated in an instant. Now, everyone present could clearly see what Ye Xiu had carved.

”This...”

Everyone gasped in amazement.

”Divine Doctor Ye, you truly are a man of many talents. I never imagined your skill in carving was so profound,” Jin Peng exclaimed in awe.

All the onlookers chimed in with their own praises. It wasn’t just flattery—the result was simply incredible.

The potato-shaped number one rough stone had been carved into a statue of the God of Longevity. Beside it were the large characters for ’Fortune as vast as the Eastern Sea, longevity to rival Mount Nanshan’.

”Elder Jin, this is my birthday gift to you. Are you satisfied?” Ye Xiu asked with a smile.

”Satisfied? Hahaha, I’m more than satisfied! I’ve never received a more wonderful birthday gift in my entire life.” Jin Peng’s eyes sparkled with emotion as he stepped forward, grasped Ye Xiu’s hand, and said gratefully, ”Divine Doctor Ye, you really shouldn’t have gone to all this trouble for an old man like me, with one foot already in the grave!”

”As long as you like it!” Ye Xiu, also very pleased with his work, said, ”Due to the limitations here, I wasn’t able to polish the statue. Please don’t mind.”

”It’s no problem at all! I’ll have someone come polish it tomorrow,” Jin Peng said hurriedly. ”You must be tired, Divine Doctor Ye. Shall we go inside for a cup of tea before heading to the hotel?”

”Let’s not rush. I have something to say to everyone here,” Ye Xiu said.

Jin Peng was stunned for a moment. What’s happening? Is Ye Xiu about to do me a huge favor and let everyone here in on a piece of the cake?

The onlookers thought the same thing and grew excited.

”Ladies and gentlemen!” Ye Xiu looked around at the crowd. ”If I’m not mistaken, for most of you, this is your first time celebrating Elder Jin’s birthday, isn’t it?”

Before anyone could answer, he continued, ”Although I don’t know you, I can guess you’ve come from outside Qi Yun Dao. You’re here to wish Elder Jin a happy birthday in the hopes of getting to know me through him, or perhaps to get a foothold in the medical field through the Jin Family, correct?”

His words were quite blunt, causing the onlookers’ faces to pale as they inwardly cursed their luck.

”Divine Doctor Ye, we mean no harm!” someone said.

”I know you don’t mean any harm; you’re just pursuing profits,” Ye Xiu said indifferently. ”Many people think the same way you do, so I’ll take this opportunity to make things clear.

”One can chase profits in any of the three hundred and sixty traditional professions, but the sole exceptions are medicine and education.

”I don’t concern myself with education; I only care about medicine.

”Right now, the medical markets across the globe are a chaotic mess. The prices of medicine and medical equipment are exorbitant, so many poor people are afraid to get sick because they simply can’t afford treatment.

”My reason for partnering with the Bao Family to enter the global medical field was not to monopolize the market or to chase profits. My original intention is to create a healthy medical ecosystem for the benefit of all humankind.

”Therefore, the first thing I look for in a partner is character.

”It is wishful thinking to expect an entrepreneur with poor character to put quality first.

”Imagine, for the sake of maximizing profits, they substitute inferior products for good ones and use worthless ingredients to make medicine... It’s terrifying to even think about.”

Hearing this, everyone present understood Ye Xiu’s meaning. They realized that trying to get into the medical field through backdoor connections wouldn’t work; Ye Xiu would be strictly vetting all his partners.

No wonder Ye Xiu chose his partners starting from Qi Yun Dao. If he were to choose from the whole country, the vetting process would be far too difficult.

”Haha...” Jin Peng laughed out loud before quickly covering his mouth.

He just couldn’t help it; he was absolutely ecstatic! After listening to Ye Xiu’s speech, he was now certain that Ye Xiu had come today to test the Jin Family. And the Jin Family had passed the test! This meant that the Jin Family would get a piece of that massive cake that was the medical field.

”Elder Jin, shall we go inside for tea?” Ye Xiu asked with a smile.

”Good, good, good, good...” Jin Peng repeated, overjoyed. He tried to adopt the serious air of an elder, but he just couldn’t contain his joy. ”Divine Doctor Ye, after you!”

Ye Xiu nodded and was about to follow Jin Peng inside when his phone suddenly buzzed.

It was a text from Leng Yue: ”Young Master, something’s happened...”

After reading the message, Ye Xiu’s expression changed dramatically. He said apologetically, ”Elder Jin, I’m afraid I won’t be able to have that cup of tea. Something has come up and I must leave now, but I will definitely attend your birthday banquet this evening.”

Jin Peng was taken aback but quickly replied, ”Of course, of course. Divine Doctor Ye, if you’re busy, please don’t let us hold you up.”

Ye Xiu nodded and sprinted away.

As he reached the entrance of Jin Peng’s residential complex, he happened to run into the Sect Leader of the Heavenly Dragon Sect, Xia Dehe, along with Xia Zhiwei and Xia Xue, who had just arrived to wish Jin Peng a happy birthday.

”Ye Xiu? So you were here...” Xia Xue’s eyes lit up, and she joyfully rushed toward him.

”Holy... crap...”

Ye Xiu took off running. Seeing Xia Xue was the last thing he wanted right now.

”Ye Xiu, don’t you run!” Xia Xue yelled, taking off after him.

”Come and get me! If you catch me, I’ll let you...” Ye Xiu shouted back over his shoulder as he ran.

Xia Xue was left speechless.
