Medical and Martial God

Chapter 367: Chapter 367 King

Xu Tingbai and the others almost burst out laughing. They truly hadn’t expected Ye Xiu to punish Shen Songshan and Shen Qilin in such a way; his thought process was simply on another level!

”Seniors, I know I shouldn’t interfere with the Qi Yun Dao Ancient Martial Circle’s election for an Alliance Hierarch, but I’d still like to say a few words...” Ye Xiu said while treating Xu Tingbai’s injuries.

”Divine Doctor Ye, just tell us who among us is suitable to be the Alliance Hierarch,” Xu Tingbai readily interrupted, playing along.

The others also turned to look at Ye Xiu expectantly.

”All of you are highly respected seniors of the Qi Yun Dao Ancient Martial Circle. There wouldn’t be a problem no matter who becomes the Alliance Hierarch. However, I believe Sect Leader Xia of the Heavenly Dragon Sect would be a more suitable choice,” Ye Xiu said.

Aside from Xu Tingbai and Xia Dehe, who were in on the plan, everyone else was stunned.

”Divine Doctor Ye, Sect Leader Xia is only a Great Grandmaster. Shouldn’t the position of Alliance Hierarch be selected from among the War Gods?” someone asked, voicing their doubt.

The others thought the same.

”The foremost quality for an Alliance Hierarch must be impartiality.” Ye Xiu looked around at the crowd and asked, ”May I ask, besides Sect Leader Xia, who among you could truly remain just and impartial after becoming the Alliance Hierarch, instead of using the position to seek benefits for your own faction first?”

Seeing everyone fall into deep thought, Ye Xiu continued, ”Electing an Alliance Hierarch is no trivial matter. It’s about strengthening the cohesion of the Qi Yun Dao Ancient Martial Circle and establishing its rules.”

”For instance, if Senior Xu Tingbai were to become the Alliance Hierarch, and a younger member of the Xu Family bullied the weak and acted with arrogant disregard for the law, could Senior Xu truly punish his own family member impartially?”

Xu Tingbai answered in a heartbeat, ”I’m afraid I couldn’t. I have my own biases, after all. Besides, if I became the Alliance Hierarch, my family would inevitably develop a sense of superiority and use their power to bully others. That’s something I wouldn’t be able to handle.”

The way Ye Xiu and Xu Tingbai played off each other silenced everyone present. Then, a heated debate erupted.

”Although what Divine Doctor Ye and Elder Xu say makes sense, I still object to Xia Dehe becoming the Alliance Hierarch. He’s too weak to command the respect the position requires.”

”I actually think Xia Dehe is quite suitable. Among everyone here, he is the most down-to-earth, kind-hearted, and self-disciplined. The Heavenly Dragon Sect also has the strictest upbringing of any family or sect in Qi Yun Dao. If Xia Dehe becomes the Alliance Hierarch, at least he won’t oppress us.”

”With Xia Dehe’s temperament, he’ll definitely ensure rewards and punishments are fair and won’t be biased. He wouldn’t yield even under pressure from a War God. I think we should give him a trial run as Alliance Hierarch.”

”Xia Dehe’s character is definitely beyond reproach. It’s just that with his strength, he might not be able to keep those families and sects with War Gods in check.”

Electing an Alliance Hierarch was a major event. Everyone would listen to Ye Xiu’s opinion, but they wouldn’t just blindly choose whomever he suggested. After all, once an Alliance Hierarch was elected, they would all be under his authority. If they made the wrong choice... the thought was terrifying.

”Divine Doctor Ye, Xia Dehe’s character is indeed good, and we all respect him. But who can guarantee his nature won’t change after he becomes the Alliance Hierarch? What if he gets carried away with power?” someone asked Ye Xiu.

Heh, I’m already getting a little carried away.

”To avoid such a situation, I suggest that the Qi Yun Dao Ancient Martial Circle hold a re-election for the Alliance Hierarch every three years. If Xia Dehe doesn’t perform well, you can vote him out in three years,” Ye Xiu said.

Everyone’s eyes lit up. What a great idea!

Furthermore, it meant that as long as they behaved themselves for the next three years, any of them could have a chance to compete for the position later.

”Divine Doctor Ye’s proposal is excellent! In that case, shall we let Sect Leader Xia serve one term as a trial?”

”With this rule in place, Old Xia couldn’t get carried away even if he wanted to. If he does and starts oppressing us, we’ll just vote him out in three years and then we’ll be the ones oppressing him!”

”Haha, well said! I agree to let Xia Dehe serve as the first Alliance Hierarch of the Qi Yun Dao Ancient Martial Circle.”

With the suggestion of a three-year term, the crowd relaxed considerably.

”Then let’s have a show of hands. If the majority agrees, we’ll have Sect Leader Xia serve as the first Alliance Hierarch,” Ye Xiu proposed.

”I agree.”

”Let’s go with Old Xia.”

”I have no objections.”

In an instant, most of the people raised their hands. Those who didn’t were either still unconvinced by Xia Dehe or harbored ambitions of becoming the Alliance Hierarch themselves.

Seeing the majority agree to him becoming the Alliance Hierarch, Xia Dehe grinned from ear to ear and said aloud, ”So, uh, I... I should probably say something, right?”

He had planned to deliver an inaugural address, a speech he had spent days memorizing until he knew it by heart. But the moment he opened his mouth, his mind went completely blank.

Ye Xiu burst out laughing. Xia Dehe’s lack of formal education was really showing!

”Alright, Old Xia, that’s enough from you,” Xu Tingbai teased. ”We all know what you’re like; it takes three kicks just to get a peep out of you. You don’t have to say anything, just make sure lunch is on you.”

”HAHAHA!”

Everyone roared with laughter.

Xia Dehe’s face flushed red with embarrassment. I must find a way to earn some money and enroll in a tutoring class or something. I have to brush up on my general knowledge. Otherwise, I won’t know what to say in future meetings of the Qi Yun Dao Ancient Martial Circle.

”Ye Xiu, uh, we’ve filled it!” Shen Qilin’s timid voice called out just then.

Ye Xiu and the others turned to look.

Indeed, the bucket was filled with soil.

”So fast?” Ye Xiu walked over, his face a mask of disbelief. ”Did you two really dig all this with an ear pick?”

”Yes, we did!” Shen Songshan and Shen Qilin nodded, though their hearts pounded with guilt. They had actually used their hands when they thought no one was looking. A bucket this large would take an eternity to fill with a tiny ear pick.

”Really?” Ye Xiu asked.

”Really!” Shen Songshan and Shen Qilin nodded with absolute certainty.

”In that case, take all the soil out of the bucket, one scoop at a time. And be sure to count how many scoops it takes,” Ye Xiu said.

Shen Songshan was dumbfounded.

Shen Qilin was speechless.

The two of them erupted in anger.

”Ye Xiu, you’re freaking messing with us!” Shen Songshan roared.

”Are you just now figuring that out?” Ye Xiu asked innocently.

Shen Songshan and Shen Qilin were struck dumb, panting with rage. They mentally vowed to find Ba Dao and have him kill Ye Xiu the moment they left the Heavenly Dragon Sect. Despite their fury, their hands didn’t stop.

”One scoop... two scoops... three scoops...”

Seeing this, Xu Tingbai and the others burst into laughter again.

Next, Ye Xiu began treating the injuries of Xia Dehe and the others one by one, but before he could get to more than a few of them, a figure suddenly appeared atop the wall of Xia Dehe’s courtyard.

It was the ’Pressure King’ himself, Dong Fangbai!

”How did you get away from Ba Dao alive?” Ye Xiu asked in shock.

Xu Tingbai and the others were equally astonished.

”With sword in hand, I ask the world: who is a hero?” With his back to Ye Xiu and the others, Dong Fangbai declared arrogantly, ”Ye Xiu, come out. I have something to say to you.”

Ye Xiu chuckled. He could guess without even thinking that the man was here for treatment but was too proud to let Xu Tingbai and the others know.

Not wanting to expose him, Ye Xiu walked out and asked, feigning ignorance, ”What is it?”
