Chapter 375: Chapter 375: The Origins of Qin Qing

In all good conscience, Wu Meiyu didn’t want to tell Ye Xiu the truth, but infuriatingly, she was a little afraid of her son-in-law.

She took three deep breaths to calm her tumultuous emotions and said, ”Qin Qing is indeed not Qin Zhongwen’s biological daughter, but Qin Zhongwen knows, and so does the entire Qin Family.”

What?

The entire Qin Family knows that Qin Qing isn’t Qin Zhongwen’s daughter? No wonder they all bullied her. To think Qin Zhongwen would wear this green hat so openly, while the rest of the Qin Family just stood by and watched. What a peculiar family!

Wu Meiyu continued, ”The Qin Family has known about Qin Zhongwen’s... issue for a long time. Qin Fugui was afraid that if the matter got out, the family would become a laughingstock, so he forced me to have a child with someone else.”

Ye Xiu’s worldview shattered! No wonder the relationship between the Qin Family and Qin Qing was so strained. They never revealed her true parentage because they were concerned about losing face.

”Who is Qin Qing’s real father?” Ye Xiu asked.

”My first love,” Wu Meiyu said shyly.

What?! Ye Xiu felt as if his entire worldview had just dropped to the floor with a THUD.

”Wait a moment!” Ye Xiu suddenly noticed that when she mentioned her first love, Wu Meiyu’s expression became deeply pained. He asked, ”Was there something underhanded about you breaking up with your first love to marry Qin Zhongwen?”

There had to be! If she and her first love had broken up on good terms, she never would have asked him to be the father.

”How did you know?” Wu Meiyu exclaimed in shock.

Come on... it’s written all over your face. Besides, anyone with half a brain could have figured it out, right?

Wu Meiyu said dejectedly, ”I was forced into marrying Qin Zhongwen. My dad and Qin Fugui were from the same village, but my dad was a drunkard and a gambling addict who owed a lot of money. He borrowed from Qin Fugui, and when he couldn’t pay it back, Qin Fugui proposed I marry Qin Zhongwen to write off the debt. My dad agreed.”

Could the story really be this melodramatic?

”So, to pay off your father’s debt, you endured the heartbreak of breaking up with your first love and married Qin Zhongwen?”

”I refused at first, but Qin Zhongwen threatened me. If I didn’t marry him, he would have my first love killed.” As she recalled this, the gentle Wu Meiyu’s face turned livid with rage.

Ye Xiu frowned. He hadn’t expected Qin Fugui to be so despicable. He asked, ”What is your first love’s name? Where is he?”

”His name is Qin Ming. As for where he is, I don’t know. I haven’t seen him in many years,” Wu Meiyu replied.

”Do you still love him?” Ye Xiu asked.

Wu Meiyu looked down in silence.

So she still loves him... Ye Xiu sighed and said, ”Alright, let’s go back and eat.”

”Oh.”

Wu Meiyu followed behind Ye Xiu with her head down. She didn’t remind him not to tell Qin Qing any of this. She knew Ye Xiu was a measured man who understood what should and should not be said.

「Back in the private room.」

Qin Qing asked, ”What did you and Mom talk about?”

”I persuaded Mom to move in with us, and she agreed!” Ye Xiu said.

Wu Meiyu was stunned for a moment. When did I agree to that? In an instant, she understood his intention. Ye Xiu was worried the Qin Family would bully her, so he planned to take her to Tu Mountain Manor to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was actually quite happy about the idea.

Qin Fugui was furious. He had been planning to go home and teach Wu Meiyu a lesson, but now Ye Xiu was protecting her.

”Then let’s go. This meal is pointless anyway,” Qin Qing said, standing up.

”Okay!” Ye Xiu nodded and said to Wu Meiyu, ”Mom, let’s go.”

”Oh!” Wu Meiyu happily stood up and trotted after Ye Xiu and Qin Qing.

With their departure, the private room suddenly became so quiet you could hear a pin drop. After a moment, the silence was broken by the sound of angry panting.

”Wu Meiyu left with Ye Xiu and Qin Qing. I’m afraid she’ll never come back,” Grandma Liu Xiaocui said through gritted teeth.

”She never loved Big Brother. Staying in the Qin family and with Big Brother only made her more repressed. Now that she has Ye Xiu as a powerful backer, she’s no longer afraid of Big Brother or the family. Of course she won’t be back,” Qin Zhongwu said, his eyes sharp.

”Big Brother, say something!” He Qing, Qin Anruo’s mother, said angrily. ”Your wife and child ran off with Ye Xiu. Are you just going to sit there and not even let out a fart?”

The weak-willed Qin Zhongwen kept his head down, lost in thought. After a good while, he looked up, a rare, vicious snarl on his face. ”If we can’t benefit from Ye Xiu, we absolutely cannot let Qin Qing and Wu Meiyu benefit either.”

With that, he looked at his parents. ”Dad, Mom, let’s just expose Qin Qing’s parentage. If Ye Xiu finds out she’s a bastard, he’ll definitely divorce her to protect his status and reputation, and to avoid being dragged into another public scandal.”

”Wait!” Qin Anruo exclaimed in shock. ”Uncle, what are you talking about? Qin Qing isn’t your daughter?”

”No. She’s the bastard child of Wu Meiyu and some random man,” Qin Zhongwen said through gritted teeth.

Upon hearing this, Qin Anruo became excited. ”This is a huge bargaining chip! We can use it to blackmail Wu Meiyu and extort a large sum of money.”

”No!” Grandma Liu Xiaocui refused. ”Once this is made public, your uncle’s infertility will be exposed, and the Qin Family will become a laughingstock.”

Uncle is infertile? Qin Anruo’s face was a mask of utter confusion.

Qin Fugui squinted and said with a sinister smile, ”I’ll find a chance to talk to Ye Xiu alone and ask him for a large sum of money. If he refuses, we’ll drag him down with us. I’ll throw the Qin Family’s reputation away if I have to. I will let the entire country know that the Medicine King Xuanse married a bastard.”

The Qin Family’s eyes lit up. It was a brilliant idea. To protect his reputation, Ye Xiu would never dare let Qin Qing’s true origins be known. He would become the Qin Family’s personal moneybag.

”Mr. Qin...”

Just then, the door opened and the waiter came in smiling. ”Tonight’s total is 516,193. Adding the 163,821 from lunch, the grand total is 680,014. We can drop the change, so let’s just call it an even 680,000.”

The Qin Family members were overwhelmed. The plan had been for Qin Qing to pay, but now the bill was theirs.

”Take back the wine,” Qin Fugui said, knowing that without the wine, the food wouldn’t cost that much.

”I’m sorry, sir,” the waiter said with a smile. ”Divine Doctor Ye asked us to open all ten bottles.”

What?!

Qin Fugui and the rest of the Qin Family were furious. Ye Xiu was clearly doing this to spite them. However, they could only swallow this bitter pill in silence. What else could they do? Confront Ye Xiu? They didn’t dare.
