Chapter 359: Chapter 359 Pretending to be Drunk

This was the answer Qin Qing had expected. She asked, ”Ba Dao didn’t come to Jin Ye City?”

”No!” Mitsui Hisashi shook his head.

Qin Qing felt a pang of disappointment. ”What’s Ba Dao’s phone number?”

”Why are you asking?” Mitsui Hisashi countered instead of answering.

Without a word, Qin Qing turned to Chloe. ”Go get the salt and the ’Tearjerker’ paste.”

”I’ll talk, I’ll talk!” Mitsui Hisashi broke down. What kind of psycho did Ye Xiu marry? Is she a pervert? He hastily rattled off Ba Dao’s phone number.

Qin Qing dialed it immediately.

Ba Dao quickly picked up. ”Mitsui, how’s the job coming along?”

”Mitsui says you’ve become incontinent. Snap a photo for me, will you? I’d love to see it for myself,” Qin Qing said coolly.

There was a moment of silence on the other end. ”Are you Qin Qing?”

”That’s right,” Qin Qing readily admitted. ”The people you sent to kill me were useless. They all bit the dust in minutes. You should come yourself. Oh, by the way, Ye Xiu is on Qingfeng Road, and I’m in Jin Ye City. You can come kill me first!”

”Bastard!” Ba Dao roared.

CLICK!

He hung up.

「...」

The mood at Jin Peng’s birthday banquet had gone completely off-track.

Jin Peng was supposed to be the guest of honor, but now, everyone was clamoring to give Ye Xiu a toast. Ye Xiu was so drunk he could barely keep his eyes open. Seeing this, Jin Peng, who had been feigning drunkenness under the table for a while, quickly signaled for Jin Lian to take him away.

After spending a great deal of effort to get Ye Xiu into the car, Jin Lian got in after him, panting for breath. ”I’ve never met someone so earnest,” she said.

”Divine Doctor Ye is too kind-hearted. He feels bad refusing a toast,” the driver said with a smile. ”Miss, where to?”

Since Jin Lian had also been drinking, she couldn’t drive and had hired a driver. Sitting in the back with Ye Xiu, she gave him a little shake. ”Where do you live? I’ll take you home.”

Ye Xiu’s head lolled to the side, coming to rest on Jin Lian’s shoulder.

”Uncle Niu, let’s go to my place,” Jin Lian told the driver.

”Alright!” the driver replied. He glanced in the rearview mirror. If Ye Xiu takes advantage of his drunken state to make a move on Jin Lian, the Jin Family will have really hit the jackpot.

Jin Lian looked down at Ye Xiu’s head resting on her lap, her face growing rosier. As one of the Eight Beauties of the Qin Domain, Jin Lian had countless suitors, but none had ever caught her eye. She had never been in a relationship, let alone been in such close contact with a man. Having his head resting on her like this gave her a strange feeling.

Too bad he’s already married, Jin Lian murmured almost inaudibly. Involuntarily, her hand reached out to touch his face.

The driver drove steadily. After about twenty minutes, they passed Shen Shijie’s art gallery.

Jin Lian spotted two Wuling Hongguang vans parked at the gallery’s entrance. Four hoodlums holding machetes jumped out and stormed inside. She knew with a sinking feeling that Shen Monong’s family was in danger. But she was a helpless woman. There was nothing she could do to save them.

At that moment, Ye Xiu, who had been lying on her lap, suddenly sat up and shouted, ”Stop the car!”

SCREECH!

The driver slammed on the brakes and turned to stare at Ye Xiu in shock.

”You... you’re not drunk?” Jin Lian looked at Ye Xiu in disbelief, her face instantly turning beet red.

Has he been pretending to be drunk this whole time just to take advantage of me? And if he was, why stop now?

”Ahem... I have a pretty strong liver. I sober up faster than most,” Ye Xiu said, looking extremely awkward. ”Anyway, I have something I need to do. You two can head back without me.”

With that, he opened the door and fled from the car.

Jin Lian was mortified, but her embarrassment turned to understanding when she saw Ye Xiu striding purposefully toward the art gallery. Did he know someone was causing trouble for Shen Monong’s family? Is that why he stopped pretending to be drunk? But wait... aren’t Ye Xiu and the Shen family enemies?

”Uncle Niu, please wait here,” Jin Lian said. ”I’m going to go have a look!”

She then got out of the car and ran toward the art gallery.

「...」

Shen Monong and her husband, Shen Shijie, were organizing his paintings. They could no longer return to the Shen family estate and didn’t own another house. They wanted to buy one, but they didn’t have enough money, so the family of three decided to sell Shen Shijie’s paintings.

”Yo, packing your bags for a little trip?” four thugs jeered as they swaggered inside.

Shen Monong and her parents turned, their expressions instantly changing.

”W-what do you want?” Shen Monong asked nervously.

The cowardly Shen Shijie immediately ducked behind his daughter. Shen Monong’s mother, equally terrified, turned pale with fright.

”Of course we want something,” the lead thug said, stepping up to Shen Monong. He looked her up and down lecherously. ”Tsk, tsk. A real stunner, aren’t you?”

Shen Monong felt a chill from his gaze and said with forced bravery, ”What do you mean by that?”

”Me and the boys are a little short on cash. Selling you should bring in some nice coin,” the leader said with a lewd grin. ”With your looks and the Shen family brand, you’re sure to fetch a high price.”

Human traffickers... The thought flashed through all three of their minds.

”Don’t you dare! I’ll... I’ll call the authorities!” Shen Monong stammered, fumbling for her phone as she backed away in fear.

”Call the authorities?” The lead thug burst out laughing. ”Hahaha! Shen Monong, are you trying to kill me with laughter? Your family framed the Divine Doctor ten years ago. Now that the truth is out, you’re all public enemies—rats in the street that everyone wants to stomp. I could kill you right here, and no one would say a word. They’d probably clap and cheer.”

Another thug chimed in, ”If the Patrol Officers gave a damn about what happens between the Shen family and Ye Xiu, they wouldn’t have just stood by and watched him tear you all down to what you are now.”

Panic and despair washed over the family. The thug was right. They were now outcasts, and nobody cared if they lived or died. Ever since the truth about them framing Ye Xiu came out, people had been coming to the gallery every day to cause trouble—throwing things, even splashing feces at their door. And no one did anything about it.

”We’re not like the rest of the Shen family!” the timid Shen Shijie summoned his courage. ”Ye Xiu already spared me and Monong! Go ask him if you don’t believe me!”

SLAP!

The lead thug slapped Shen Shijie across the face. ”Ye Xiu sent us, you idiot!” he snarled. ”He hates your family down to his bones and specifically ordered us to come and sell off Shen Monong.”
