Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5093 A Terrifying Poison

As City Lord Davis went down the wooden elevator and made his way to the underground, he was constantly advising his first wife.

”Evelynn, just because we live in an amoral world where strength rules doesnʼt mean we have to be inconsiderate. Forget that victim. Think about yourself. I allow you and your sisters to constantly remind me not to be evil, so I expect you all to not lose yourself either. Power corrupts all. No one escapes this fate if they donʼt look after their mental state. Look at this, City Lord Kain, for example, back then, he was a great hero, even I would respect…”

He briefly explained the impotent City Lord Kainʼs life and how a small incident turned him into an evil tyrant.

He had two sons- adopted, but both of them died in the galaxy battlefield. He also had an adopted daughter, but she betrayed him by acknowledging her real father and going away with him after he came to get her back.

Although this was a good thing, it had changed him intrinsically, made him thirst for his own children. The straw that broke the camelʼs back was when he heard his newly adopted third son insult him behind his back, saying he had an impotent, worthless father who wouldnʼt let him enjoy life, which caused him to kill his newly adopted third son secretly.

Even then, he hadnʼt become vile enough to violate women and do other shady things.

At first, it was just visiting physicians more frequently before it changed to trying dubious medicines, which then accidentally caused him to take advantage of a married maid, who then became his last sixteenth mistress.

After that, he had lost his bottom line and began sliding on a slippery slope until he got to this point.

”No wonder such a heroic person took this drastic action of selling oneʼs own wife to the Saint…” Evelynn uttered with some pity, but she shook her head dismissively.

No matter what, this was still unacceptable to her. Her opinion was that it was better to beheaded with dignity still intact than sold to someone else and made a plaything.

Whether it was Saint Riyal Mendez or someone else, she knew they were not intent on making love with married women and protecting them, but taking advantage of their plight or greedy desire to derive the most taboo sensation of forbidden love and satisfy their ego by engaging in the conquest of another manʼs love.

The women themselves werenʼt special most of the time. It was the fact that they belonged to someone other man that made it spicy to steal them.

It was obvious since these women would be forgotten after being taken into their harem, if they were lucky enough to get inside in the first place, without getting easily abandoned. In Saint Riyal Mendezʼs case, he didnʼt seem to have a single woman by his side, although he had slept with many, tens, and thousands of them, which made him the subject of ill repute back in the First Haven World.

”Thatʼs right. You must be careful with every step you take, my love. Donʼt let your half-arachnid bloodline, thatʼs known to fight evil with evil, overcome your reason.” Davis said firmly, even though his voice was soft.

”…” Evelynn blinked.

It was all because she said that whether she became evil or not depended on whether he was safe, which made Davis go off on a tangent.

Evelynn could only listen silently, knowing she was being lectured for giving him permission to take advantage of an innocent woman.

She didnʼt retort, but she wasnʼt convinced either.

What innocent? She didnʼt know about Jillian Haydenʼs past as a cultivator, but at present, she knew the latter had been a threat who tried to stab her husband with poison. As a poison expert, she was well aware of how gruesome oneʼs death could be if affected by a terrifying poison. Even if death didnʼt come, it was worse than being tortured with every part becoming inflamed, swollen, or other nightmares depending on the poison.

Even if it was a misunderstanding, so what?

Was the true immortal world willing to let their family survive? Would this world let them live? Wasnʼt her family innocent? Werenʼt her children innocent? Why is it that if their identities were exposed, they could quickly be exterminated like they were a plague?

If they were considered a plague, Evelynn truly didnʼt mind becoming one either.

She could be considerate after reaching the top. Until then, she wished for only one thing, and that was her familyʼs safety, with Davisʼs safety being on top of anything else.

”I understand…” She eventually said, ”So, what was the poison she was about to use on you?”

”Thatʼs not important.”

Davis didnʼt reveal it because he knew it would convince Evelynn that she was right.

This was always the problem. The terrifying part about becoming evil is that people believed they had not become evil, but they were right. They believed that they were simply realistic, had simply grown up, and stopped being naive. This was the kind of poison he feared would work on anyone. He was able to reflect that even he had these moments.

It was a mental poison, similar to the poison held by the Ill-Will Abyss Sludge Spirit that simply devilized oneʼs personality and caused them to kill each other in the most brutal way possible, and when thereʼs no hope in sight, simply eat themselves to death.

After getting off the elevator, after it paused with a soft thud, the underground corridor opened in front of him. The pathway wasnʼt primitive but fully furnished with stone walls and a surface, combined with necessary formations to defend the place.

He walked ahead at an unhurried pace, continuing to argue with Evelynn.

Evelynn didnʼt let this matter go. She constantly asked him what poison that was and threatened to come here and take a look if he didnʼt say, making Davis finally give in.

She went silent.

”Fairy Evelynn, you must calm down. Your aura is becoming scarier.”

Laphria Rinmei walked to Evelynnʼs side and grabbed her hand.

Evelynn turned her head to stare at her, but her vision was painted by someone else.

Jillian Hayden.

What a good woman who was only defending herself! She was this close to making Davis a cripple if he had been caught off guard! Then escape would prove to be impossible, with him getting sealed by the end because Venerable Knight Lussandra was just outside, having witnessed her supposedly being taken advantage of, when all Davis wanted to do was help.

Davis may not have recognized the type of poison used, but she did.

It was the Corrupted Celestial Venom Spiritʼs poison, which was actually a poison with life attribute!

It was a paradoxical poison that was pure and harmless to people of old age, or rather, people who lacked vitality. The nearer to death they were due to lack of vitality, the less it would affect them, but even still, it was a poison that one wouldnʼt want to experience, as it would cause excruciating pain as poxes would appear all over them and burst, releasing their vital energy, which is their blood essence and even soul essence.

To those who were young and in their prime, they would be paralyzed instantly and would quickly start to lose their cultivation and foundation as it quickly starts undoing the strengthening and tempering their body and soul experienced.

It was a type of poison that can corrupt even healing arts and turn them into poison! So the moment Davis tried to use life energy to heal, it might quickly backfire on him and further plunge him into danger.

She had heard Davis say multiple times that fate works in mysterious ways, but what a good fate!

The world wanted to actively kill them, but even fate wanted to do so!?

She was pissed beyond compare.

”Whatʼs wrong? Is he in danger?” Glacia Frigidveil also stood up, her hand resting over the hilt of her icy sword.

Fairy Qiyra Darkstar also manifested above in mid-air. Perhaps she had always been there, silently watching.

They were ready to fly and save him anytime.

”Evelynn, you must not pursue this matter. She has already been taken away by Venerable Knight Lussandra. Forget about it. Even if you found a chance and succeed in killing her, your actions will jeopardize our plan and implicate me.”

Davis brought out the same card she used- whitemail!

He didnʼt doubt she would leave the mansion and go hunt down Jillian Hayden. He hadnʼt forgotten that his love went on a killing spree that killed millions in the Poison Lord Villa Territory. If he hadnʼt come back alive, more wouldʼve died miserably.

Only after he said this did Evelynn awaken out of her murderous reverie. Her bosoms heaved as she took a deep breath before she thanked Laphria Rinmei politely.

”No, he escaped from it.”

Evelynn said softly as her lips moved before she responded to Davis using their hex pact, ”Fine, I wonʼt visit the Hayden Family and poison them all to death.”

”…”

Davis paused in the underground tunnel and also took a deep breath.

To someone who possessed the Hell Poison Gemʼs replica, this statement didnʼt come lightly. To Evelynn, it was just a matter of her waving her hand and causing the entire city to turn into hell. Ninety percent of the population wouldnʼt survive, not even the City Lord if he were still alive and took it face-first, or if he was even near the vicinity of the place where the hell poison was unleashed.

In his heart, he was very happy that his love would care for him and go above and beyond to ensure his safety, but her methods were becoming quite scary.

He had heard the World Master predict that her powers would become calamitous, and her current hex powers were already something he would consider calamitous, so he had always been careful and took the World Masterʼs words to heart, unwilling to let Evelynn walk the path of carnage. It was fine if her powers were calamitous, but not her heart. After all, it wasnʼt the weapon that killed but the hand that held it.

He wouldnʼt let her become evil, no matter what.

Davis felt a bit of pity for the Hayden Family.

Fate was truly cruel. The ancient Hayden Family came here only to be humiliated, suppressed, and find themselves forced to accept defeat. Even then, fate didnʼt let them go, forcing Evelynn to make a move on Jillian Hayden, which couldʼve gotten them all killed and then implicated him, Evelynn, and the others.

He would consider the Hayden Family lucky if they came out unscathed after this incident.

With his ability to perceive the flow of fate minimally, he could see how this was going to play out, so he didnʼt bother himself with Jillian Hayden after discovering the strength of the poison and the sudden intrusion of Venerable Knight Lussandra, even if he wanted to punish Jillian Hayden for her accidental transgression.

He could only let Venerable Knight Lussandra take her away.

City Lord Davis, in the body of original Davis, finally stopped in front of Head Guard Rowen at the intersection of a myriad of tunnels.

Behind Head Guard Rowen was Divinacia.

”Welcome, Fairy Divinacia.”
