Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5092 Unknown Gazes

”Evelynn, my dear. Please be understanding… this is an innocent woman who has suffered a lot… her actions, although annoying, are understandable… she is within her rights to defend herself using the most reasonable extreme means possible, which turned out to be targeting City Lord Kain, which is me…”

Davis consoled Evelynn, knowing she was deeply worried about him doing these experiments, but tried to amuse herself with it. As karmic experts, they both were aware of the consequences of constantly provoking fate. Evelynn was a Hex user, after all, which was a fusion of Karma Laws and Poison Laws. Her current half-arachnid bloodline was also from the Asura Dimension, giving her more insights into the workings of karma.

Then what was so worrisome about their situation?

There were many doubts that they had.

For example, they had provoked fate quite a few times, but there was still no backlash from those invisible monsters of the Karmic Dimension, which he could see through Karmic Sight. If there was no backlash, was he supposed to believe that there werenʼt any kind of repercussions?

No, Davis didnʼt think so, and neither did Myria, Evelynn, and quite a few others who knew about his powers.

Even if he had to forget this matter, he had offended two Supremes in the Elemental Dimension. They hadnʼt reacted at all. Were the Supremes powerless? How can that be?

Even if he had to forget this matter again, he had practically stolen a sealing treasure from the Reincarnation Dimension. Where were those officials from that dimension? How come they still havenʼt come back to retrieve it and punish him?

Davis had only one answer to this question.

He was being watched, perhaps not literally but karmically and through other lenses he had no way to be aware of. He was being watched by unknown entities.

The very thought of it was terrifying and made him have sleepless nights for a few days before he believed that these characters or Supremes wouldnʼt make a move in the living world, but was that really the case?

He felt there was something funny going on, but this was beyond his control, so he had never bothered to mull over it. Since it came to that, he would just throw Fallen Heaven at them.

”Mhm, but you tried to free her, and she was impulsive, nearly ending up harming her savior, returning gratitude with hostility. Whether I forgive her or not depends on the poison she tried to use and her attitude…” Evelynn said with a bit of vengefulness.

Her fey bloodline demanded that she drink blood.

Glacia and Laphria Rinmei looked at Evelynn with a bit of strangeness. Although they had no idea what was happening, they could tell something was going on right now with Davis. How come the crimson aura around her felt so evil? They felt it might even be a match for Nadiaʼs death energy or Davisʼs death energy.

”Alright, alright… just look at her exhausted face…”

Davis softly slapped Jillian Hayden on the face twice and said, ”There, I beat her up twice. Forgive her, will you? If the poison isnʼt powerful, then you should forget about this matter altogether.”

He said as he curiously brought back the hairpin from his spatial ring.

He took a look at the jade hairpin and loosened the lid ever so lightly at the sharp tip while keeping it away from his face.

ʼHoly shit…! Itʼs a Poison Essence strand at the Peak-Exalt Grade!ʼ

He hurriedly sealed the tip with the lid, wondering from which poison spirit it was. Perhaps a Heaven-Tier Empyrean Grade or even a Celestial Spirit at the layer limit?

As far as he knew, he was only aware of Heaven-Tier Empyrean Grade Poison Spirits because he had read their Poison Essence Charts.

Rotting Twilight Banshee Spirit was ranked Fifth in Heaven-Tier Poison Essence Charts.

Corrupted Celestial Venom Spirit was ranked Fourth, Ill-Will Abyss Sludge Spirit was ranked Third, Toxic Sovereign Deathroot Spirit was ranked Second, and finally, the Cataclysmic Plague Deity Spirit was ranked First in Heaven-Tier Empyrean Grade Poison Essence Charts.

Each of these poisonous spirits had its time wrecking the human race once, and was infamous enough for nearly every poison cultivator to be aware of, as long as they heard some myths and legends from their poison masters.

He felt this poison must be from one of them. Although it was a mere strand, he could feel its density and the Will behind it. A spirit expert surely concocted it, and a deadly stab to someone meant that the poison instantly spreads throughout oneʼs system.

It would end up being fatal!

”…”

Davis was about to reply to Evelynn when he turned to look toward the balcony. His jaw nearly dropped as he saw a beauty nock a deadly arrow at him. He knew this arrow. He had nearly taken it twice and was about to get it for the third time if he didnʼt back up.

He shot a smile at the figure hovering outside before walking to her, ”If it isnʼt Venerable Knight Lussandra. We had the chance to get acquainted two months ago during the founding of the Bastion Cities. What an honor to meet you again.”

”City Lord Kain, Iʼm disappointed.”

Venerable Knight Lussandra still had her arrow pointed at him, her expression cold, ”To think a person of your caliber can stoop this low.”

Davis took out the City Lord mansionʼs formation core. Backed by the formationʼs power, it was capable of unleashing powerful strikes that even Exalt cultivators between Level Nine and Level Twelve would fear it, and it was not a single-use but a multiple rapid-fire use since the Ethereal Luminaʼs Tree energy could be used to fuel it.

However, Davis didnʼt attack.

He opened the defensive formation layer near the balcony and then removed the concealment barrier, too, sparing her the trouble of having to use ocular arts to see through what was happening here from outside.

City Lord Davis cupped his hands, ”Respected Venerable Knight, I also didnʼt expect a person of your caliber to peep. Why donʼt we call this a misunderstanding and settle down? After all, we have our problems to take care of.”

Venerable Knight Lussandraʼs brows narrowed.

Her gaze fell on the formation core, which held the power to activate all kinds of formations in the City Lord Manor and the entire city. The Killing Formation here was in trouble, but she knew there was another Killing Formation that used all twelve cities to unleash an incredible attack. Even a cultivator at the layer limit would have to be careful.

She guessed that if she offended this City Lord at this moment, the other City Lords might also shun her, leading her to be unable to achieve her goals here. After all, they could be quite united when it comes to protecting their interests, much less hide their crimes.

It was important that she find the Divine Emperor of Death without being delayed here. To that end, she had preemptively scouted this place, thinking he could be hiding here, but all she saw was a City Lord who was just as unscrupulous as the Saint.

She had just appeared here secretly and roamed around the manor to check, but then saw this atrocious scene, making her enraged.

Still, she controlled herself and entered through the balcony from the highest point of the city.

She flew towards Jillian Hayden and picked her up carefully, giving her care and respect. She then shot a look at him coldly.

”Iʼll have your head in martial court after finding all the evidence against you.”

”Heh, even if this is a time of war where youʼll be able to punish me easier, I doubt you can, considering you should be looking for the greatest threat in the galaxy. Farewell.”

City Lord Davis cupped his hands again before gesturing out, his eyes spewing flames.

Take his head in martial court? He would be damned if he didnʼt leave City Lord Kain by that time. He really wanted to see if this woman could make him stay here and behead him!

However, he also controlled himself from sneak attacking her.

If he did, not only would he have to give it all with no assurance of victory, but he would also have to expose himself. Right now, even with her ability and status as a Venerable Knight who was empowered by the heavenly energy, she didnʼt seem to realize that City Lord Kain was the Divine Emperor of Death himself.

Davis couldnʼt help but feel empowered knowing that.

If even an Absolute Primarch at the layer limit canʼt recognize, then he really did feel invincible in his karmic impersonations.

However, he was still shaking with anger.

After all, the blood debt with her must be repaid. She had wounded his Illumina and nearly killed her, so he wanted her to suffer twice as much, even if they had a good experience while dealing with each other before. He had respected Venerable Knight Lussandra, but that had dropped quite a lot after that incident.

If she wanted to take a shot at him, then she shouldʼve done it at point-blank range right on his head! Then it wouldnʼt have become personal in his books!

”Iʼm sorry, dear. I distracted you…”

Evelynnʼs voice could be heard in his mind.

Davis took a moment to calm himself as he flicked his sleeves and closed the formations.

”Itʼs fine. I donʼt have to deal with the kidnapped anymore, and Lussandra wonʼt have time to pursue this matter. If I get impeached, it wouldnʼt be until later. By that time, weʼll be long gone.”

”Mhm. Iʼll listen to you and more than anything, prioritize your safety.”

”I will.”

Davis pursed his lips as he heard Evelynnʼs worried voice.

She was always worried about his health secretly, like a mother, part of the reason why he hadnʼt told her his stupid plan that bordered on insanity.

A few moments later, Head Guard Rowen contacted him, and he went to the lower floors underground to meet Divinacia and Epsila. At the same time, he received word that Saint Riyal Mendez has left his accommodation and is making his way here.
