Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5079 Corruption Of Will

Head Guard Rowen managed to gain some leeway to react.

However, it didnʼt even take him a moment to find that all his muscles and meridians had gone stiff. The Azure Dragonʼs roar that had swelled in his soul sea instantly got drowned by an invisible Will. A pair of pupils spiraled like twin voids in his soul sea, causing him to freeze both in soul and body. The pair of eyes carried a sovereign weight, far more than he could withstand.

The Azure Dragonʼs phantom Will failed to protect him as it didnʼt even shatter, but disappeared like it was smoke.

The draconic aura receded, leaving him utterly vulnerable and helpless.

Davis didnʼt react, nor did he use State of Divine Possession again.

Azure Dragon? A mere Great Saint Rank Magical Beast that could only get to the Empyrean Beast Stage, even if its scales or reverse scale that carried its true blood essence were used to make a Primarch Grade Armor using other main materials, wasnʼt an opponent to his Will since he had even defeated a King-Tier Five-Clawed Imperial Dragonʼs Will with ease.

One needed to bring a True Dragon or an Emperor-Tier Five-Clawed Imperial Dragon in order to compete with his Will, considering the cultivation difference.

Moreover, Exalts didnʼt have natural resistance against Will attacks, unlike Divine Exalts, because of their Godskull, which carried the faith of many experts and followers. Exalts needed to improve their Wills by themselves using various kinds of tempering and techniques if they didnʼt possess Enigmatic Heart Laws, Imposing Sword Laws, or similar types of Laws that tempered oneʼs Will, so he felt Primarchs wouldnʼt be that resistant to Will attacks either if they hadnʼt bothered to train their Wills, and he was eventually proven right.

He watched Head Guard Rowenʼs face churn as though he was undergoing some mental battle before he saw him finally relax.

Head Guard Rowen smiled faintly, ”Alright, Iʼll listen to you.”

”Good.”

Davis said with a satisfied expression before raising his hands, ”Release me then.”

”Understood.”

Head Guard Rowen unlocked the shackles and then took off the cultivation seal, but noticed that it was ruined already. He laughed jovially before gesturing to others.

”Everyone, leave. We have a few matters to discuss.”

”Yes!”

The surrounding guards were perplexed, but they werenʼt the ones to disobey orders.

”Did you see that? The Grand Blue Sky Armorʼs radiance dimmed.”

”Did something happen? Why couldnʼt I sense any undulations?”

”Idiot, they probably fought a soul battle in the mental realm within that minute moment. Head Guard said that this masked man was hiding his cultivation back then. He mustʼve won the battle but had acknowledged the opponentʼs strength because even the armor fell short.”

”How can that be? That armorʼs made from an Azure Dragonʼs scales…”

The guards whispered to each other as they left.

”Youʼre not going to call me Master?” Davis asked, curious as to what was different from the previous time he corrupted a guard.

”Heh, youʼre not worthy yet with only a Level Three Empyrean Stage cultivation, but Iʼll listen to you.” Head Guard Rowen said casually.

Davis blinked, ”Why would you listen to me?”

”Because you told me to listen to you. Isnʼt that enough?”

Head Guard Rowen looked at Davis as though it was a matter of fact, leaving Davis secretly breathless again.

Corruption at the Will was truly scary.

Even obvious discrepancies didnʼt seem so obvious!

Nonetheless, he understood why Head Guard Rowen didnʼt call him Master at the get-go.

To the first guard he corrupted, he had said: [From now on, you shall forget your innate desires and become my living puppet since I own you. You will continue to live your life as you did, but you will take my words as a heavenly decree and follow it even if it ends up killing you.]

But to the Head Guard, he had only said that the other party should listen to him.

The difference was the level of restriction he had placed on their Wills.

The guard would never betray him, even at the cost of sacrificing self, family, and the world, but the Head Guard had a chance to betray him if things went south. Otherwise, the Head Guard would be inclined to listen to him and do his bidding.

He cast this kind of less restrictive corruption because, although he was confident, a demand too high was certain to invite greater resistance and backlash. If all Head Guard Rowen, a Peak-Level Primarch whose cultivation base was at Level Seven Primarch Stage, had to do was listen to him, then the resistance wouldnʼt be that high compared to sacrificing his sense of self.

Davis was always careful in this regard.

Hence, the reason why he wasnʼt instantly addressed as Master.

In this case, Davis could tell that Head Guard Rowen still thought of him as something of a lesser being but was willing to listen to him and do his bidding.

To confirm that, Davis made him do sit-ups and pull-ups as well as slap himself.

*Paah~*

Head Guard Rowen did all that and finally slapped himself while looking embarrassed, offering no retorts as though he was being commanded by his superior.

”Good, good, good. Where are the souls that you saved from handsome fattyʼs residence?”

”Ugh, Thousand Windblades took them away.”

”Tch…” Davis clicked his tongue, thinking that fucker acted rather quickly. He couldʼve used their soul essences, but he supposed free meals were harder to get.

”Alright, whatʼs the situation on the City Lordʼs manor like?” Davis scratched his forehead before quickly changing his focus.

”Itʼs in full lockdown and guarded by the City Commander. After all, there was an attack on the City Lord of the Twelfth Bastion City. Fortunately, the Hexadra Clan managed to defend the City Lord.”

”Oh.”

Davis uttered as he wondered if it got difficult to infiltrate there, but didnʼt think so since he was basically getting into the minds of the people. Only people like Venerable Knights, Celestial Transcendent, Peak-Level Primarchs above Level Nine Primarch Stage, and those with defensive soul treasures at the Peak Exalt Grade could possibly have a chance to withstand the State of Divine Possessionʼs Corruption of Will.

”So what do you know about handsome fatty? How can we get him?” Head Guard Rowen asked.

”We donʼt. We forget about him.” Davis said, expecting to meet resistance.

”Oh, alright then. Iʼll listen to you.”

”…”

Davis went speechless. That works?

However, Head Guard Rowen looked troubled, ”But if I donʼt get the handsome fatty soon, then it would be difficult to explain myself to Saint Riyal Mendez when the time comes. What do you think I should do?”

He asked worriedly as though Davis would truly give him a path to lead him out of the tunnel.
