I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 643, Long-Term Work

Su Bai heard the sounds of construction work outside the Tribe and opened his eyes. He had been waking up to these sounds for the past couple of days.

Because the Tribe had begun constructing cement houses, the morning commotion tended to be rather loud.

They all had to polish the stone blocks into shapes most suitable for building cement houses, and the sounds of transporting and mixing cement were all very loud.

On top of that, everyone was now living relatively good lives, so everyone was rather cheerful and lively in the mornings.

When many people gathered together, they easily chatted, and with so many people, one sentence from him and her would add up to create quite a lot of noise.

[System, check in and open the Assistance Package.] Su Bai sat up straight and commanded in his heart.

The System packages that had been opened recently were not particularly ideal. Just some everyday small items.

For instance, small scissors or small knives, and better ones might have pots, bowls, ladles, basins and the like.

The poor ones were quite poor indeed, like coat hangers… In this Primitive Era, what use were coat hangers? One could simply use a few pieces of wood propped up to hang clothes outside. Getting these coat hangers was rather wasteful of the Assistance Package.

Su Bai looked at the small packet of balsam flower seeds in his hand, his eyebrows raising slightly as he said. “This is acceptable, I suppose.”

He no longer held much hope for the System recently. The items that came out were not particularly impactful.

Like now, being able to get a small packet of balsam flower seeds was decent. At least it was something unseen in this era.

Moreover, balsam flowers had certain medical benefits, such as promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis, dispelling wind and removing dampness.

Not only that, but in ancient times on Earth, many beauty-loving ladies used balsam flowers to dye their nails.

The dyed nails came out pink and rosy, looking quite attractive, though it was rather troublesome.

*Knock knock knock…*

Yu Ying knocked on the room door, her soft voice sounding. “Shaman, I’ve finished preparing breakfast.”

“I understand, I’ll be right there.” Su Bai got up and changed into linen clothes. Recently, he had been sleeping in the casual clothes that came from the System.

After all, he had grown accustomed to such clothing on Earth. Sleeping in casual clothes was still more comfortable.

*Step step step…*

Su Bai opened the door and came to the living room, simply washed up and ate breakfast.

After finishing breakfast, he returned to his work position and began taking out paper and pen to plan the Tribe’s development.

“Shaman, this is the tea I’ve brewed for you.” Yu Ying hurriedly brought over a cup of tea.

“Good.” Su Bai smiled slightly. The Yong’an Building had recruited maids, yet Yu Ying was still bustling about.

She said she preferred it this way, and most importantly, the Shaman’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner all had to be prepared by her personally.

“Shaman, what are you drawing? You’ve been drawing all day since yesterday.” Yu Ying asked, cupping her face with both hands.

Jobs like washing dishes were left to the maids, so at this time she had time to stop and rest.

“I’m drawing the Tribe’s city walls, so when the eternal night comes next time, we’ll be able to resist those Ferocious Beasts more easily.” Su Bai said.

City walls were something he had always wanted to construct, but unfortunately last year, due to the rainy season and the snow season, the Tribe had to prioritise building houses.

As well as storing food in preparation for the snow season, and even more so dealing with the maddened Ferocious Beasts during the eternal night. There simply was not the time or manpower to construct city walls.

“City walls? Don’t we have walls outside right now?” Yu Ying played with a strand of scattered pink hair.

“They’re like those rows of wooden walls outside the Tribe now, except these city walls are all built from stone and cement, making them much sturdier and safer.” Su Bai explained simply.

On Earth, city walls were often the most important thing, since there was no city without city walls.

Apart from clearly demarcating a city’s territory, city walls were most importantly for resisting external enemies and protecting the safety of people within the city.

Some cities were easy to defend and difficult to attack precisely because of their city walls. Those soldiers standing on the high battlements could launch attacks from above on targets below.

Moreover, city walls were not like the wooden walls here. Walls made of wood could easily be pushed down, or destroyed with fire.

But city walls built from stone were different. No matter how much one pushed or burned, they stood firm, greatly ensuring the safety of people within the city.

Furthermore, in the Primitive Era, wild beasts and Ferocious Beasts were everywhere. If there could be city walls, the threat that Ferocious Beasts and wild beasts posed to the people would be greatly reduced.

“Walls built from stone and cement? Shaman, they must be incredibly sturdy then!” Yu Ying immediately widened her pink eyes.

The Tribe now had cement houses, and everyone had witnessed their sturdiness.

Yu Ying naturally understood the importance of these stone walls.

“Indeed, with stone walls, our Flame Dragon Tribe will be even stronger.” Su Bai smiled.

Simply building cement houses within the Tribe was not enough. Cement houses naturally provided some protection for people, but having stone walls would be even better.

Moreover, the Flame Dragon Tribe was to develop into something like a city in future, making city walls was indispensable.

However, constructing city walls was not a simple matter. Materials alone were rather demanding.

The small stones currently used for building cement houses naturally would not work. The stone blocks for building city walls had to be large. It was only then that the constructed walls would be sufficiently sturdy enough.

“Shaman, will it take a very long time?” Yu Ying also sensed the change in atmosphere.

“About a year, but even that would only be a portion completed. This is long-term work.” Su Bai said.

Although the Tribe had strong Totem Warriors, they could not be only limited to transporting stones.

Their main job was still protecting the Tribe’s safety and hunting prey. The construction work for the city walls would still fall to those ordinary people.

City wall construction was not like building houses. Without two or three years, there was no way to complete it.

“It takes so much time? A whole year just to build one section?” Yu Ying wondered if she had heard wrong.

“Yes, so we must take it slow.” Su Bai’s tone became gentle.

“I understand.” Yu Ying’s soft voice responded.
