I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 615, Ordinary People Can Also Help

“I’ve already tested it. Using a military knife, sharpening it is quite easy, but using a bone knife or stone knife is very difficult.” Yan Hua said.

When she had thrown this spike at that stone earlier, she picked it up and discovered the tip had become somewhat blunt, so she sharpened it with her military knife.

“That’s good to hear. Are there many of these spikes?” Su Bai asked, wanting to know if there were enough in quantity to completely replace those wooden or bone spears.

Although the forest was full of trees everywhere, cutting down trees to make spears or grinding down bone to make spears still required time and manpower.

If these spikes were numerous, they could replace such materials, saving a considerable amount of time.

Moreover, these spikes felt more comfortable in hand and the Warriors would find them more manageable to use.

“In the past few days, eight of these Ferocious Beasts have appeared. Each Ferocious Beast has roughly three hundred of these spikes on its body, though they vary in length.” Sha Lan continued her report.

All this information came from her exceptionally sharp memory. An ordinary person would probably need to deliberately memorise these details to remember them. Sha Lan had merely glanced at them briefly and calculated, then committed all this to memory.

“How long is the longest spike, and how short is the shortest spike?” Su Bai continued asking.

Since they were going to use these spikes to replace their spears, he definitely needed to know the details of these spikes.

“The longest spike is half again as long as this one, while the shortest spike is somewhat shorter than this one. Though not by much.” Sha Lan gestured against the spike.

These characteristics were child’s play for Sha Lan. Remembering such things required no effort on her part.

“Great. Have all these spikes been collected?” Su Bai was particularly interested in knowing this.

If these spikes had not actually been collected in the end, and those Ferocious Beasts had instead been burnt to death, then all his ideas would be for naught. After all, the spikes would have been destroyed by the fire as well.

“The Chieftain took notice of these long spikes at the time and specifically had people collect them. They’re all piled up downstairs in the Yong’an Building now.” Sha Lan said.

When she had seen these long spikes at the time, her mind had also turned to thoughts of spears.

Moreover, when Sha Lan had taken hold of this spike, she felt it was particularly light.

When throwing this spike, its power was in no way inferior to a spear.

It should be known that when the rain season arrived, Sha Lan had trained with spears in the rain for quite a long time.

She had particular insights into the feeling of holding a spear, which was why she felt this long spike was perfect as a spear.

“That’s great. After everyone finishes celebrating, we’ll establish a spear squad.” Su Bai instructed.

Such fine equipment would be too wasteful not to utilise properly.

“Shaman, all the Warriors know how to use spears. We just need to distribute one to each of them.” Sha Lan suggested.

Sha Lan’s thinking was that there was no need to specifically select certain Warriors to form a spear squad, and have them train specifically to use the spear. After all, every single Warrior knew how to use a spear. This was one of their essential skills for becoming a Warrior.

Her idea was that Warriors having spears was the same as already being part of the spear squad, since each Warrior was skilled with many different weapons anyway.

For instance, Totem Warriors could also use longbows, recurve bows, and firearms, and even knew how to ignite explosive packages.

“The spear squad I’m talking about would be established by selecting ordinary people. There’s no need for Warriors to join.” Su Bai said calmly.

After all, there were plenty of strong and robust people besides the Warriors. Most of those people had been forced into other jobs simply because they lacked the qualifications to awaken as Warriors.

Su Bai had long wanted to make use of these people. After all, they possessed considerable strength too and using them only for farm work was rather wasteful.

Moreover, the Flame Dragon Tribe currently did not have that many Warriors; not as compared to other Tribes. They still had far too few.

This was also a method he had constantly considered for expanding the Flame Dragon Tribe’s strength, but he had been helpless due to the lack of particularly good weapons.

Although he had previously considered establishing an archery team, at that time, he had been preoccupied with surviving the rain season, snow season, and the current eternal night.

The workshop had no spare time to craft additional bows and arrows, likewise firearms. Thus, this idea had remained shelved.

Until he had just seen those long spikes and learned that the spikes were particularly numerous. Thus, this idea had emerged once again.

“Shaman, you want to select ordinary people to establish a spear squad?” Sha Lan wondered if she had misheard.

“Yeah. You also know there are plenty of people with good physical strength in the Tribe. They simply have no way to become Warriors, but does that mean we shouldn’t provide them with opportunities?” Su Bai asked with a smile.

“I understand the Shaman’s meaning. These spikes aren’t heavy. Ordinary people can bring out the power of these spikes, so using them is certainly possible.” Sha Lan was indeed clever. Sha Lan only needed the slightest hint to understand what Su Bai wanted to express.

“Shaman, this way, our Tribe will be even stronger.” Yan Hua also understood this point.

She had previously had a female friend who was also very capable, but unfortunately lacked the qualifications to awaken as a Warrior. So, she had not been selected as a Warrior Trainee and could now only help the Tribe with various other odd jobs.

Therefore, when Yan Hua heard this idea, she was completely onboard.

“For the personnel selection, have Cang Shi handle it. Tell him he must choose those strong and robust amongst the normal Tribe members. Only they can bring out the spears’ true power.” Su Bai instructed.

“We understand,” Yan Hua and Sha Lan nodded.
