I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 605, Elephant-Style Death

Yan Jiao frowned, watching the area where smoke dispersed, murmuring. “Why didn’t it make even a single sound?”

“What? You didn’t hear the massive explosions?” Cang Shi suspected he had misheard.

“I’m not talking about the sound of the explosive packages exploding, but the cry of that Ferocious Beast.” Yan Jiao said seriously.

Of course they had heard the violent explosion of the explosive package, but they hadn’t heard any anguished cries from the Ferocious Beast.

Such a powerful explosion, with so many explosive packages detonating simultaneously, yet that Ferocious Beast had not made a single sound.

“You’re overthinking it. Perhaps the explosive package was too powerful, and that Ferocious Beast was blown to death before it could cry out.” Cang Shi thought optimistically.

He felt that with such formidable power from the explosive package, it must have killed that Ferocious Beast, and not having time to emit anguished cries was entirely possible.

“No, things aren’t that simple. Look.” Yan Jiao lowered his brow and pointed towards the smoke.

“What!?” Cang Shi doubted his own eyes, vigorously rubbing his purple pupils.

What they saw was a massive dark shadow still present within the thick smoke, and that shadow’s outline was identical to the Tortoise-like Ferocious Beast.

Clearly, that Ferocious Beast still stood in place; the explosive package’s detonation had not harmed it at all.

“It’s actually still alive after all those explosives?” Yan Hua also felt exceptionally shocked.

Yan Hua had covered her ears just as the explosive package was about to explode, because several explosive packages detonating simultaneously created tremendous noise. She had thought this would resolve these Ferocious Beasts.

“What kind of Ferocious Beast is this? Could it be dead but still standing?” Sha Lan speculated. She had only heard the explosion sound without hearing any other noises, which led to this speculation.

“I think that’s unlikely. That Ferocious Beast definitely isn’t dead yet.” Ge frowned.

For some reason, he could directly tell that Ferocious Beast had not died. He felt this creature was rather different from ordinary ones.

Just as everyone remained puzzled, the smoke from the explosion began slowly dispersing.

The surrounding faint firelight illuminated the Ferocious Beast’s body, revealing it slowly emerging from within the Tortoise shell.

Indeed, when the explosion occurred, this Ferocious Beast had retreated into the large Tortoise shell on its back, which was how it had survived.

“As expected, I knew this Ferocious Beast wouldn’t die so easily.” Yan Jiao’s expression was not pleasant.

After all, this explosive package was one of their trump cards, yet now their trump card had proven ineffective. The Ferocious Beast before them truly could not be underestimated.

“But, fortunately this Ferocious Beast’s advancing speed is very slow, so we still have other countermeasures available.” Cang Shi breathed a sigh of relief.

If not for this Ferocious Beast’s sluggish movement speed, the Flame Dragon Tribe would likely have descended into chaos by now.

“Go have the firearm and poison archer squads get prepared. It seems we’ll have to rely on them to take it down.” Yan Jiao commanded.

Their hopes now rested entirely on these two teams. Only by having them strike the Ferocious Beast’s vital points could they kill this creature with its protective shell.

“Yes.” A Warrior nodded and went to relay the orders.

*Step step step…*

Yan Hua and the others received the Chieftain’s command and began preparing to eliminate that Ferocious Beast.

The poison archer squad members had also made their preparations, coating all their arrowheads with poisons.

Their current arrangement was to first use poison to paralyse this Ferocious Beast, then finally use firearms to strike its head, which would increase their chances of eliminating it.

“You must watch for the right moment.” The poison archer squad captain, Ye Jiu, said. She had been appointed as the poison archer squad captain because her accuracy was amazingly high.

Additionally, since they were now using poisons with higher danger levels, naturally they needed to assign a cautious person as captain.

“Understood.” Yan Hua nodded.

After Ye Jiu applied poison to her arrowhead, she raised her recurve bow and aimed at that Ferocious Beast’s head.

Only by injecting poison into its flesh and blood could they achieve the best effect, as these arrows obviously could not penetrate that hard shell.

*Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh…* Under Ye Jiu’s command, the poison archer squad fired their poison-coated arrows.

With successive whooshing sounds cutting through the air, those poisoned arrows all rushed toward that Ferocious Beast. Most arrows fell to the ground or struck the Tortoise shell.

Only Ye Jiu’s arrow flew straight toward the Ferocious Beast’s head.

*Wuu wuu wuu…*

As the poison arrow struck home, that Ferocious Beast also emitted cries it had never made before, because that poison arrow had hit its nose, creating intense pain.

Each arrowhead carried extremely potent poison, especially entering through the nasal cavity. After the arrowhead penetrated the flesh, the poison rapidly spread.

However, due to the Ferocious Beast’s enormous size, this amount of poison still was not enough.

The poison archer squad fired several successive volleys, with arrows periodically striking that Ferocious Beast.

A total of eight arrows embedded in that Ferocious Beast. As the poison began spreading, symptoms gradually appeared.

That Ferocious Beast’s advancing speed became even slower. Its pace had not been particularly fast to begin with, but now it visibly slowed further.

“Now’s the moment.” Yan Hua instantly seized the timing, aiming her firearm at that Ferocious Beast’s head.

“You must hit its head! Nowhere else will work!” Sha Lan reminded the others.

The firearm team members all aimed their weapons at that Ferocious Beast’s head, but none rushed to fire their bullets. They needed to find the optimal moment.

The eternal night still had two days remaining, and no one knew what other Ferocious Beasts might appear, so conserving ammunition where possible was prudent.

*Bang bang bang…*

At Yan Hua’s command, the firearm team’s bullets all rushed toward that Ferocious Beast’s head.

*Roar, roar, roar…* The Ferocious Beast’s anguished cries rang out once more. This time the bullets struck either its eyes, head, or throat; every shot hit a vital point.

“Excellent, we hit it.” Yan Hua said joyfully.

As the poison gradually spread, combined with bullets directly striking vital areas, that Ferocious Beast could no longer hold on and began slowly collapsing.

First its head fell directly to the ground, though its four limbs still stood erect.

The overall appearance resembled an Elephant’s death, no longer retreating into its shell.

“It seems to be dead.” Sha Lan observed carefully for quite some time.
