I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 610, Good Material for Making Shields

Su Bai was sitting in his position eating lunch. If he had not looked at his pocket watch, he would have truly thought he was eating dinner right now.

After all, when he looked outside at this time, everything was pitch black. Without checking the time, it was impossible to distinguish between day and night.

“Xiao Yu, today is the second day of the eternal night, right?” Su Bai put down his bowl and chopsticks.

Perhaps it was because of the darkness outside, or perhaps it was that round Moon radiating blood-red light, he felt he had no appetite at all. This feeling was truly too eerie, and it definitely could not be separated from the Blood Moon.

“Yes, Shaman. There’s still some soup left in the pot. Let me get you some soup to drink.” Yu Ying immediately said. She noticed that the Shaman’s appetite had dropped drastically recently, eating very little at each meal.

However, strangely, she observed that the Shaman had not grown thin at all. Instead, his body had become considerably more robust.

This feeling was not recent. It was something she had sensed for some time. She could see that the Shaman was completely different from when the Tribe had yet to retake their Ancestral Land.

Back then, while the Shaman was indeed handsome, his frame looked frail.

Compared to the Warriors, the difference was enormous. But now, looking at him, it was completely different. His Physique could now completely compare with the Warrior Trainees.

Of course, he still could not compare with the exaggerated muscle groups of Totem Warriors, but his current build paired with his face was truly attractive.

“No need, I’m already full. You eat,” Su Bai raised his hand to decline. He truly had no appetite.

“Shaman, is it because I haven’t cooked well?” Yu Ying’s expression immediately became dejected.

“No, every meal you make perfectly suits my taste. It’s just that I’ve been thinking about some things recently. So, my appetite hasn’t been that great.” Su Bai explained.

It was not that the food was lacking. In fact, Yu Ying’s culinary skills had improved tremendously. Him being able to eat such delicious food in this Primitive Era was entirely thanks to her.

It was just that he had been settling and planning for many things recently. So, during each of the three daily meals, he would hastily eat.

“Shaman, are you worried about the strange Ferocious Beasts?” Yu Ying asked. This was the only thing she could think of. After all, this was the eternal night, and the Tribe was currently under threat from those Ferocious Beasts.

Moreover, many of the Ferocious Beasts that had appeared from yesterday until now were all unknown, and their strength could not be underestimated.

“That’s only one part of it. Their presence had not greatly affected me.” Su Bai gently shook his head.

What he was thinking about was somewhat more far-reaching, though most of it was indeed related to those strange Ferocious Beasts.

It was impossible to spend so much manpower and energy at this time every year. He wanted a solution for this. So recently, everything he had been thinking about was over this. He was considering how to confront these Ferocious Beasts with the least manpower.

When he thought of this, the first idea that came to his mind was a fortress. However, this was too impractical at present and extremely difficult to achieve.

So, he set aside this idea for now, thinking of some things that could be accomplished in the next few years.

“Shaman, the shell that the Chieftain sent over is extremely hard. It’s still placed in the square.” Yu Ying remembered the Ferocious Beast’s outer shell.

That outer shell was left behind by the Tortoise-like Ferocious Beast, which appeared yesterday. After they used fire to burn it down, everything else but the shell was burnt away.

Yan Jiao thought that leaving such a huge outer shell outside the Tribe would take up space, and he dare not have people move it too far away, lest they encounter Ferocious Beasts. So, he ordered his men to move it into the Tribe, thinking that such a hard object should give the Shaman new ideas.

“Let’s go have a look,” Su Bai drank some water and stood up. He also wanted to see what this thing actually looked like.

*Step step step…*

The two changed their clothes and left the Yong’an Building, coming to the square to examine that shell.

“It’s huge.” Su Bai was surprised by the size of this Tortoise shell.

The Tortoise shell was large enough to compare with two wooden huts, and it was different from ordinary Tortoise shells.

The surface of this Tortoise shell was not flat, but each section had protruding areas, like small mountain peaks.

“Shaman, they say this could not be completely burned away even with fire.” Yu Ying also curiously examined that Tortoise shell.

This was also her first time seeing such a large Tortoise shell, and it was extremely peculiar.

*Knock knock knock…*

Su Bai approached and, with his hands wrapped in Animal Hide, knocked on the Tortoise shell, saying, “This is an amazing item.”

The reason he wrapped his hands in Animal Hide was because he did not know whether this type of Ferocious Beast shell had anything harmful to Humans.

Moreover, this Ferocious Beast had been poisoned before death. Although those poisons could not possibly reach its shell, it was still better to be careful.

“Shaman, is this outer shell useful?” Yu Ying could not think of what this shell could be used for.

“You’ve seen how hard it is. Even explosive packages could not blow it open. What if we used it to make shields?” Su Bai asked in return.

When he had just knocked on the surface of this shell, this idea had surfaced in his mind.

Whatever object came before his eyes, he would prioritise considering whether this thing was useful to the Tribe.

Much more so for such a hard outer shell – he naturally thought of defensive applications.

“You’re right. Even explosive packages could not harm it, so if it were made into shields, it could protect the Warriors’ safety.” Yu Ying immediately made this connection.

She knew that other Tribes’ weapons were inferior to the Flame Dragon Tribe’s. Those bone knives and stone knives alone, when striking this Tortoise shell, definitely wouldn’t cause any damage. Perhaps those weapons might even break due to how tough this Tortoise shell was.

“Have some people come over to move this thing to the workshops. We can start having them craft shields.” Su Bai instructed.

After all, the people in the workshop were not Warriors and did not need to respond to eternal night. Since they had free time, they might as well be used to craft shields.

“Shaman, but this Tortoise shell is so hard, how will they take it apart?” Yu Ying asked.

“We can use diamonds. Its hardness is definitely harder than this shell. Knives made from diamond can definitely take it apart.” Su Bai said.

Diamond had existed even in this era, and it was even left behind by the Old Shaman, just that the quantity was not much.

“Understood. I’ll have people go move the shell over.” Yu Ying nodded. Now that he mentioned it, she also remembered diamond’s hardness.

“Make the shields according to the size of the patterns on the surface,” Su Bai added.

“Understood,” Yu Ying said softly.
