I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 641, More Confident

“Shaman, do those wines require three bags of dried meat to exchange for one jar?” Yu Ying looked at the numbers recorded on the paper.

Those numbers were all recorded by Yu Ying when Su Bai had just spoken.

Items like wheat wine and grape wine all had detailed records, showing how much dried meat could be exchanged for how much wine.

“Only for Sour Fruit wine.” Su Bai nodded.

Sour Fruits could be found everywhere in the forest, so this type of wine did not have particularly high exchange value.

Grape wine and corn wine were valued at four bags of dried meat for one jar, because these two types of wine tasted better and required more expensive materials.

Wheat wine was even more expensive, requiring five bags of dried meat, which was the Chieftain’s suggestion.

He felt this value was absolutely worthwhile, and those people would definitely be willing to exchange for that much once they tasted the wheat wine.

“I understand. I’ll organise this properly and give it to Ah’Lan.” Yu Ying said.

Yu Ying had been keeping her head down, earnestly recording, and because she had learnt numbers, recording did not present any obstacles.

“I’ll help you organise this together. After all, I’ll be the one speaking with them when the time comes, so it would be better if I handle it directly.” Sha Lan said gently.

Sha Lan understood what needed to be done and did not want Yu Ying to become too exhausted from doing too many things.

“It’s fine, I can help too.” Yu Ying did not feel this was something tiring.

“Don’t you still need to prepare to teach those little ones? So I’ll handle this.” Sha Lan still felt rather protective of Yu Ying.

“You two needn’t keep passing this matter to each other. Leave this matter to Ah’Lan.” Su Bai put down his teacup and continued. “Xiao Yu, you’re still responsible for teaching the children how to read and write.”

After hearing Sha Lan’s words, he also felt they made perfect sense. After all, one person handling too much work could easily lead to errors. Moreover, now was a time when the Tribe was developing rapidly, so many matters should be handled gradually and steadily for the best results.

“I understand.” Both Yu Ying nodded.

“Shaman, the Central Market has already begun construction. It should be finished in about two days.” Sha Lan reported on the work progress.

Su Bai blinked his black eyes and said. “Tell them not to rush. The other Tribes probably won’t arrive so quickly. Make sure more focus is placed on the structures and the foundation, so that the Central Market is built robustly.”

He certainly did not want the Central Market to become a shoddy construction project that would collapse during typhoons or the rainy season, especially when the weather could change with the appearance of one Ferocious Beast.

“I’ll make sure they build it properly. But why will they be delayed?” Sha Lan asked with puzzlement.

“It’s due to the eternal night. This time, many unknown Ferocious Beasts appeared, and we can assume that the other Tribes all faced great difficulty in coping. This time, they certainly suffered greater damage than in the past.”

Su Bai added some water to his cup and continued. “They should need to repair their Tribes first, and afterwards they’ll need to hold Totem Awakening Ceremonies, won’t they?”

This was within his expectations. Even without the new Ferocious Beasts that appeared this time, those Tribes would not arrive so quickly anyway.

“I understand. It seems they’ll be delayed for some time.” Sha Lan suddenly understood completely.

“Actually, this is good too. It gives us more time to develop properly.” Su Bai said, taking a sip of water.

Sha Lan tilted her head, clearly not quite understanding what else the Tribe still needed to do.

Su Bai smiled slightly and asked in return. “Doesn’t our Tribe still have many wooden houses?”

“Oh, I understand now.” Sha Lan immediately beamed with joy and continued. “Shaman means our Tribe will start building cement houses, right?”

Sha Lan belatedly felt a bit happy, as cement houses were many times better than wooden houses.

“Exactly. Let the people who previously built cement houses continue working. Before the other Tribes arrive, we’ll replace all the Tribe’s wooden houses.” Su Bai instructed.

“Yes, I’ll get them working on it as soon as possible.” Sha Lan nodded repeatedly.

“Shaman, when do you think people from those Tribes will arrive at our Tribe?” Yu Ying asked with puzzlement.

“At least a month. After they settle their Tribe’s affairs and then travel here, it should be a month later.” Su Bai said.

This time the Flame Dragon Tribe’s victory relied entirely on their new inventions like the firearms, bows and explosive packages.

The other Tribes did not have such things. All they could do was use the bodies of Totem Warriors to engage in close combat with those Ferocious Beasts. This would naturally result in extremely heavy casualties, and not all Totem Warriors could hold off Ferocious Beasts.

More or less, some Ferocious Beasts would charge into the Tribes. Besides destroying houses, worse, they would start eating people.

After such a process, Large Tribes would still be able to endure somewhat, with recovery time of about a month.

But smaller Tribes might be directly annihilated, or only have extremely few survivors remaining. It might be equivalent to annihilation. Those few remaining people would not be able to survive alone and could only seek refuge with other Tribes.

“A month? Shaman, how long is a month?” Yu Ying scratched her head. The Primitive Era had no specific time divisions other than the seasons.

Terms like time, a week or a month were very unfamiliar to them. At most, they only knew about days and seasons.

Even when previously describing the approaching rainy season, they would say there were still dozens of days remaining, never using vocabulary like one or two months.

“Well, it’s a descriptive term for an approximate number of days. For example, 30 days is called one month.” Su Bai explained.

He did not explain particularly thoroughly. That there were times when 28 or 29 days counted as a month, and even 31 days also counted as a month.

Under the current circumstances there was no need to explain. They would naturally learn this knowledge later.

With the girls’ learning ability, learning about weeks and months was inevitable.

“I understand. This is quite easy to remember.” Yu Ying nodded with sudden understanding.

“Shaman, but for so long, what about our Tribe? Aren’t we supposed to develop into an Intermediary Tribe?” Sha Lan worried.

Sha Lan was thinking about quickly trading the Tribe’s goods to other Tribes, so they could exchange for more dried meat in return.

The Flame Dragon Tribe had already accumulated quite a lot of goods, just waiting for people from those Tribes to come and trade. But now they had to wait around 30 days.

“Don’t worry. This month, we still have enough food, and the time we spend will still make the Tribe even better. Even without other Tribes, we will still continue to improve, no?” Su Bai reassured.

“I understand.” Sha Lan nodded thoughtfully.
