The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Soon, the group descended to the foot of the mountain.

At this moment, the black bus had long been waiting at the designated location.

Everyone boarded the bus one after another, and the atmosphere was relaxed.

Mr. Qin, sitting in the front row, had an expression of calm rather than his usual furrowed brows, and even a slight, indistinct smile at the corner of his mouth.

The driver caught sight of this through the rearview mirror and couldn’t help but turn halfway around, teasing with a smile, ”Mr. Qin, how long have you been up there? You’re looking quite relaxed—is it because this trip was especially fruitful?”

Mr. Qin laughed heartily at this, his voice carried the relief of a burden lifted: ”Of course! With experts from our provincial office personally involved, any tricky case can be unraveled!”

As he spoke, he turned to glance at Jiang An and Director Hou sitting in the middle of the bus.

”The skill level of the provincial office is indeed superb. Every time they come to Jiangcheng to guide us, the cases they handle seem to achieve breakthrough progress, undeniable.”

However, just as he finished speaking, as if suddenly recalling something, he added with a hint of reflection, ”But having said that, it also depends on the specific situation.”

”Some experts might come down just to go through the motions, accumulate some grassroots experience.”

”But the experts who came this time truly helped us solve a major problem and provided a crucial direction!”

The driver curiously pursued, ”Really! Mr. Qin?”

”No wonder everyone, including you and the leadership, has a smile on their face; seems like the case had a major breakthrough!”

Not just the front row, even the young officers sitting towards the rear of the bus couldn’t help but whisper amongst themselves, their faces full of excitement and thrill.

This long-standing case that had troubled everyone was investigated by many in the team, who remembered its complex details vividly and all felt immense pressure from the elusive breakthrough point.

Earlier at the scene, Jiang An’s precise analysis of the nature of the death, especially his rigorous deduction using on-site traces and physical principles, was progressive and logically clear, enlightening many long-standing doubts that had lingered in everyone’s minds.

It could be said that within this case, the determination of the ”nature of death” had always been a challenging point.

Although theoretically, the nature of death is nothing more than three types: homicide, suicide, or accident.

Even someone without experience blindly guessing has a one-third chance of being right.

But to sift through complex on-site information, exclude the other two possibilities, and accurately pinpoint the sole truth requires solid professional knowledge, keen observational skills, and the courage to make judgments.

Jiang An’s analysis just demonstrated this strong professional prowess.

Each point he raised was well-reasoned and convincing.

”Mr. Jiang is truly impressive!”

A young officer couldn’t help but give a thumbs up, whispering in admiration to his colleague beside him.

”Indeed,” the colleague nodded repeatedly, with a tone of respect, ”I’ve reviewed those on-site photos many times too, but couldn’t string those details together as he did, connecting to that crucial point.”

Another officer suddenly slapped his forehead, his face full of regret and self-blame, as if a vital detail suddenly dawned on him but it was too late.

His colleague beside him, seeing this, couldn’t help but grin, patting him heavily on the shoulder with a tone of consolation mixed with teasing, ”Hey, brother, it’s not that your eyesight is lacking.”

”Some things, even placed right under your nose, remain hidden unless you intentionally search for them.”

”Having worked in this field for a while, it’s easy to fall into our preconceived frameworks; preconceived notions are something everyone suffers from.”

”But at the end of the day, we’re still a notch below the real experts.”

At this moment, an older officer suddenly interjected, his tone full of reflection, ”Look at Mr. Jiang, so young yet so composed and thorough in work and speech, quite accomplished for his age!”

”When I was his age, I was still trailing my mentor, carrying bags and running errands.”

”Back then, when asked to speak during meetings, I’d stammer and be all over the place.”

”Unlike Mr. Jiang, who speaks with clarity and organization, even more so than many veteran detectives.”

”Indeed,” someone nearby picked up the conversation, chuckling softly, ”Look at Director Hou—he’s been a seasoned veteran in the criminal investigation field for many years.”

”Earlier at the scene, he hardly said a word.”

”Why? It just shows Jiang An indeed has some skills!”

”Absolutely,” another person nodded in agreement, ”Director Hou isn’t clueless; he just knows what to say and when.”

”With someone more professional present, he’s happy to step back, giving the younger ones room to shine while avoiding the possibility of saying something wrong—it’s both grace and wisdom.”

”Ultimately, Director Hou’s professional ability is already quite strong.”

”Yet, he remains so cautious and humble, willingly letting Jiang An lead the analysis. Just that itself shows Jiang An’s level is exceptional.”

.....

As everyone softly exchanged words, their gaze occasionally drifted subtly to Jiang An walking not far away.

Their eyes were filled with admiration and envy, as if this youthful captain from Jiangcheng had already embodied the ideal they once aspired to be.

Half an hour later, the bus slowly drove back to the courtyard of the city Public Security Bureau.

After getting off the bus, the group did not return to the criminal investigation team office but headed directly toward the building housing the evidence laboratory.

The laboratory door ”beeped” lightly as it was opened, and Mr. Qin, leading the way, introduced it to Director Hou and Jiang An beside him, ”Director Hou, Mr. Jiang, this must be your first time visiting our city bureau’s evidence preservation laboratory, right?”
