The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”According to the plan deployed earlier in the work group, we are divided into eight teams, corresponding to eight responsibility areas, to conduct a thorough search.”

”The core task is to investigate anyone with a medical record for a right-hand fracture within three months before and after the incident.”

”Whether it’s hospital records, clinic prescriptions, or even pharmacy purchase receipts, no traces should be overlooked.”

”Remember, the key to solving the case often hides in these seemingly trivial details.”

His gaze swept over every face: ”The significance of this investigation is immense, and I hope everyone puts in 100% concentration and patience.”

”Now, each team should move according to their assignments!”

As soon as he finished speaking, a young officer stepped slightly forward, a tone of slight confusion and caution in his voice, and asked, ”Captain, I have a question—Isn’t our direction for this investigation too broad?”

”Would it be more efficient and focused if we concentrate the investigation on hospitals, clinics, or community health service centers around the crime scene?”

”After all, if the suspect got injured during the crime, they’d most likely seek nearby treatment. And expanding to all medical institutions citywide could double our workload...”

Mr. Qin nodded slowly after listening and responded, ”The issue you raised is very practical, and I understand everyone’s concerns as well.”

”At first glance, limiting the investigation scope to the vicinity of the crime scene seems more direct and resource-saving.”

”But the situation we are currently facing with this case is complex, and the suspect’s behavior could have many possibilities.”

He paused briefly and continued to explain, ”We cannot rule out that he might have been injured in another area before committing the crime or deliberately went far from the scene for treatment.”

”He might not even be a local resident, just temporarily appearing at the crime location.”

”If we just focus on a few nearby medical institutions, we could miss critical clues.”

”Since we’ve decided to readjust the investigative direction for this case today, we must make the most comprehensive considerations.”

”Expanding the scope might increase the immediate workload but can potentially cover all possibilities.”

”Investigating is sometimes like playing chess; we can’t just look at the immediate step, but must consider various variables.”

”Only by plugging every possible loophole can we filter out that suspicious individual with a right-hand fracture from the vast sea of people!”

Soon, the eight investigation teams spread out quickly across various areas of the city like a scattered net.

From eight in the morning, officers shuttled through the streets and alleys, visiting hospital after hospital, clinic after clinic, even including some private medical institutions and community medical stations.

The day’s operations continued until eleven at night when the teams returned one after another to the criminal investigation unit with exhausted figures.

As they stepped into the unit’s entrance, a rich aroma of takeaway food filled the air—the logistics team had thoughtfully prepared dinner for everyone.

After a day of high-intensity visiting and investigating, everyone was famished, but they ate this dinner particularly hastily.

They quickly shoveled a few mouthfuls of food and then hurried to the meeting room.

At half past midnight, the meeting room was already full.

Director Hou, Jiang An, Mr. Qin, and Political Commissioner Li were already in place.

The leaders of the 8 teams gradually walked in, some still inadvertently wiping the corners of their mouths.

Political Commissioner Li glanced around, seeing that everyone was present, then spoke, ”Since everyone is here, let’s start the meeting now.”

”According to the meeting arrangement, we will have each team report today’s investigation results one by one.”

”Please focus on the list of individuals with right-hand fractures, especially if any have had any overlap with the area surrounding the crime scene.”

”From these clues, we need to identify the most suspicious figure.”
