The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”Is this excessive enthusiasm really just due to familial ties?”

”Or does it contain a motive to observe the progress of the case closely, or even to cover up traces?”

As soon as the words were spoken, Guo Yong suddenly looked up and said, ”You... you are slandering me!”

”My right hand is fractured, making even daily life difficult. How could I commit a crime?”

”Moreover, helping them handle the aftermath was simply the basic decency between relatives. In this world, does even mutual help among kin have to be questioned?”

......

Outside the interrogation room, Political Commissioner Li stood in front of the one-way glass, his hands unconsciously clenched, his brow deeply furrowed, and his expression growing increasingly solemn.

He sighed softly, ”This person is probably not as simple as we initially thought.”

Beside him, Director Hou’s face was equally grave, and he responded in a low voice, ”That’s how investigations are; you always encounter unexpected resistance.”

”This person is not only cunning but also seems to be familiar with our investigative techniques.”

”Even though the current clues all point to a close connection between him and the case, the crucial evidence is still missing.”

”Where exactly should we look for a breakthrough?”

Political Commissioner Li’s gaze never left the interrogation scene on the other side of the glass, shaking his head, a deep sense of helplessness in his tone.

”Time is indeed our greatest enemy.”

”It’s been four years, making it as difficult as scaling the sky to find concrete evidence now.”

”Even if there were eyewitnesses back then, or someone heard something unusual, after such a long time, memories would have faded long ago.”

”That’s true,”

Director Hou bitterly agreed, ”Forget about recalling events from four years ago; even if you ask me to recall a detail from a year ago, I can’t guarantee I would remember.”

”The dust of time has already covered too many potential clues.”

Upon hearing this, the two fell into silence, and after a while, they exchanged glances, sharing a deep sense of resignation in their eyes.

Standing nearby, Jiang An’s mind was racing, like a high-speed computer, trying to find the overlooked breakthrough among the intricate clues.

After a while, Director Hou turned, his gaze landing on Jiang An, his voice deep, ”Mr. Jiang, what do you make of this interrogation?”

Jiang An’s sight passed through the one-way glass, falling on Mr. Qin’s busy figure inside the interrogation room.

”In fact, this kind of resistance from the suspect is completely understandable.”

”The nature of this case is too severe. Once confessed, the options waiting for him are death penalty or life imprisonment.”

”In such a situation, anyone would have a desperate mindset. Furthermore...”

”This case has dragged on for so long, and we still haven’t found definitive evidence; the suspect has likely developed a sense of luck.”

”If we cannot produce solid evidence, it’ll be hard to bring him to justice.”

Director Hou gently shook his head, a complex expression in his eyes.

”I’ve handled many major cases across the province, and I’ve indeed encountered such situations.”

”Everyone knows who the perpetrator is, but just lacks that crucial piece, and in the end we can only watch the case stall.”

He sighed helplessly, ”I hope this case doesn’t repeat the same pattern.”

Political Commissioner Li also sighed, ”But, where should we start looking for that solid evidence?”

His gaze shifted between Director Hou and Jiang An, seemingly hoping for someone to offer a solution.

After watching the interrogation for another 30 minutes and seeing the stalemate continue, the three of them stood up and left one by one.

Political Commissioner Li turned and invited, ”Director Hou, Mr. Jiang, shall we go to my office for a cup of tea? Maybe use this opportunity to change our perspective.”

”Given the current situation, if we don’t find a new breakthrough, even if we continue the interrogation, it might yield twice the effort for half the result.”

Soon, the three arrived at the office, where a redwood tea table was placed by the window.

The three sat around it.

Political Commissioner Li adeptly rinsed cups, placed tea, and brewed, his movements fluid as flowing water.

In the corner of the tea table, the thick case file lay quietly, its deep blue cover already somewhat worn, the edges slightly curled up.

Political Commissioner Li took a small sip of tea, his gaze involuntarily falling upon the case file.

”This case has always been a thorn in the side of our police bureau.”

”Four years, a whole four years.”

He put down the tea cup, his fingers gently stroked the cover of the case file, ”When the case broke out, I was still the chief of the criminal investigation team. Now, I’ve sat in the director’s seat, yet this case...”

Speaking, he slowly shook his head, ”Back then, we invested a tremendous amount of police force into this case, it can be said we mobilized the entire bureau’s strength for the investigation.”

”Not only did we establish a special task force internally, but we also specifically invited criminal investigation elites from nearby cities to collaborate in multi-round carpet searches, interviewing hundreds of relevant personnel, and sorting through thousands of clues.”

”Even with such efforts, the case has remained like a stone sinking into the sea, with no breakthrough advancements.”

”Now that we’ve finally narrowed down to a suspect who can be essentially confirmed, we are on the brink of solving the mystery, yet stuck at this last juncture—the crucial evidence remains elusive, like being in the penalty area in football but unable to make the final kick.”

Director Hou slightly pressed his lips together, picking up the conversation, ”Political Commissioner Li, we must still have confidence in the special task force.”

”The fact that this case has progressed to this point at least indicates that we have not gone astray, and our investigative approach can withstand scrutiny.”
