The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

At this moment, everyone’s eyes in the venue unconsciously focused on Jiang An.

The air in the conference room with more than forty people seemed stagnant, with only the beams of the projector quietly circulating.

Jiang An glanced around slightly, his gaze moving back and forth between the projection screen and the heap of case files in front of him.

minutes—to use this brief time to fully present the framework and analysis of a complex case.

Even for someone as experienced as he, it was no small challenge.

What’s more, this was his first visit to Qinzhou.

Not only were there unfamiliar faces in front of him, but weighing heavily on his mind was that he was accompanying Director Hou from the provincial criminal investigation team.

He represented not only personal ability but also his superiors’ focus and expectations for the case.

He understood deeply that every word he said could influence the collaborative tone and direction of the special team in Qinzhou.

In the blink of an eye, he couldn’t help but weigh in his mind: If he didn’t speak thoroughly or made omissions, he would undoubtedly let down the provincial bureau’s emphasis on this support task.

”However, if he spoke too deeply, seeming to overshadow the host, it might make the colleagues from Qinzhou feel embarrassed, who had devoted months of effort to this case.”

The stack of files nearly half a meter high on the table proved the enormous energy and time they had invested.

If he explained in 40 minutes what others had accumulated over years, it might highlight his personal ability, but could also put the local investigation team in an awkward position before the provincial leaders and the city political commissioner.

This delicate balance, he had to manage cautiously.

Thinking of this, Jiang An’s lips gently twitched, he then began, ”After listening to your introductions just now, I believe Qinzhou’s criminal investigation has done a very solid, systematic, and comprehensive job in this case.”

He paused briefly, his gaze sweeping over the thick dossiers in front of him, and continued sincerely, ”Even placing such a case in Jiangcheng, achieving such detailed depth would be quite difficult.”

”These volumes of files are not only records of the case-solving process but also the best proof of the hard work and professional spirit of the Qinzhou criminal investigation comrades.”

As his voice fell, Mr. Qin, the captain of Qinzhou’s criminal investigation team, who was sitting beside him, visibly relaxed his previously tense expression.

He nodded slightly, turning to Jiang An, with an expression of recognition and appreciation in his eyes.

This young criminal investigation captain was not only known for his case-solving ability but also rare in possessing such a keen sense of collaboration and communication wisdom.

Mr. Qin’s biggest worry was that the experts coming from the province would disregard the groundwork and solely introduce new views and directives.

That way, in front of the political commissioner and provincial leaders, the local team’s contribution and effort could easily be overshadowed.

However, Jiang An’s opening both acknowledged the achievements and left room, undoubtedly laying a foundation of respect and cooperation for subsequent exchanges.

Then, Jiang An looked around the audience and continued, ”Regarding the location of the case, its peculiarity deserves our high attention.”

”The scene is located in a farmland area deep in the countryside, starkly different from the relatively enclosed courtyard environment in the city.”

”Here, there is a sparse flow of people daily, the resident structure is sparse, and during the time of the crime, there were almost no witnesses, and public surveillance facilities are severely lacking.”

”Therefore, as Mr. Qin emphasized in the PPT report earlier, under the current conditions, starting from traditional trace evidence is the path most suited to the site’s environmental characteristics and most feasible.”

He paused briefly to fully affirm the preliminary work, then shifted, his voice gradually sinking, ”However, after my preliminary review and analysis of the case materials, I believe there are still some peculiarities that cannot be ignored, mainly reflected in the following three aspects.”

With these words, a murmur of discussion and the sound of pages turning suddenly rose in the audience.

Both the attendees below began to pick up their pens to jot down notes, and even Mr. Qin, Political Commissioner Li, and Director Hou on the podium simultaneously adjusted their postures, picked up their pens, and concentrated, clearly very attentive to Jiang An’s upcoming remarks.

Jiang An spoke gravely, detailing, ”Firstly, the peculiarity of the crime location.”

”The location chosen by the perpetrator wasn’t ordinary farmland but deep within the cornfield—everyone knows, the height of corn plants can reach over two meters, forming a natural visual barrier, with extreme concealment.”

”More importantly, the location is off the main road, quite a distance from the village residential area.”

”Even if the victim attempted to call for help during the incident, sound would hardly escape the cornfield and be detected by the outside.”

”In addition, according to the autopsy report, the mucous membrane of the deceased’s mouth showed obvious damage, indicating she had been subjected to external compression of her mouth and nose before death.”

”This act, on one hand, might have been to stop her from making a sound, and on the other hand, reflects the perpetrator’s utilization of the site’s concealment and instinctive anti-investigation awareness.”

He paused slightly, continued, ”Secondly, the peculiarity of the criminal method.”

”From the criminological classification, murder cases are generally divided into crimes of passion and premeditated crimes.”

”Premeditated crimes are often accompanied by meticulous preparation beforehand, such as tool preparation, route planning, site selection, etc.”

”But in this case, although the perpetrator dragged the victim into the cornfield, seemingly with some site selection.”

”But regarding the tools and methods used, I tend to believe this was a spontaneous crime—the perpetrator did not use ropes, tapes, or other common control tools, and used only bare hands throughout to compress the victim’s neck and mouth and nose.”
