The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

After Director Hou finished speaking, Political Commissioner Li slowly took the microphone, looked seriously around the hall, and said, ”The speeches by Director Hou and Mr. Jiang were both very apt and insightful.”

”Especially Mr. Jiang’s in-depth analysis starting from the case itself, with clear logic and distinct viewpoints, which was very enlightening and thought-provoking for me.”

”It should be said that during the previous phase of the investigation, our comrades from the Qinzhou City Criminal Investigation Team indeed put in a lot of effort and did quite a bit of foundational work, which is commendable.”

”However, to speak truthfully, our overall understanding of this case and the depth of our understanding of the crime motives and behavior patterns still need to be further improved.

”Particularly, the issue Mr. Jiang mentioned about suspect profiling, I find very critical and highly valuable for reference.”

”From the existing evidence and the situation at the scene, the possibility of a familiar perpetrator is indeed very high, and the crime motive has a strong directionality—it is highly likely to be an assault directed at the deceased, Wang Xiu.”

”But here arises a crucial question that we need to deeply consider: Since the motive seems to be sexual assault, why were typical traces of completed sexual assault not found during the examination? What psychological state or physical factors are hidden behind this?”

”Could it be that the suspect we are dealing with has some physiological dysfunction, leading to the failure of the act?”

”Or was it due to excessive nervousness or being disturbed during the act, causing the action to be interrupted?”

”Or perhaps the suspect has some special behavioral preferences or psychological abnormalities, implementing the assault in a way different from conventional understanding?”

”These possibilities all require us to further explore with the combined knowledge of forensic science, criminal psychology, and other disciplines.

”Therefore, I believe the next investigation should closely follow the overall deployment of the task force leadership and focus on the following three aspects.”

”First, conduct an in-depth investigation and systematic sorting of the social network of the deceased, Wang Xiu.”

”Not only should we investigate her immediate family, colleagues, and friends, but we must also pay special attention to whether there are individuals in her life who were particularly focused on her appearance, had explicitly or implicitly expressed fondness, or even exhibited stalking behavior.”

”Pay special attention to those who appear to have normal relationships but might have distorted desires internally.”

”Second, the forensic department should conduct a second examination of the body, especially focusing on areas like the mouth, nipples, and anus that might have been in contact with or left biological traces, using more sophisticated technical means to test. With the rapid development of criminal science and technology, the sensitivity of DNA testing and trace evidence analysis is much higher now, and we must fully utilize these technological methods, leaving no possible biological evidence unchecked.”

”Third, we must reorganize a team to revisit the crime scene and conduct a more comprehensive and detailed on-site investigation.”

”Just now, Mr. Jiang repeatedly emphasized the importance of the scene, and I completely agree.”

”The environment where the case occurred is special, and it is very likely that crucial clues were hidden during our first examination.”

”In the next step, we must assign experienced technical personnel for on-site inspection to conduct a comprehensive search of the central scene and related surrounding areas, paying special attention to searching for possibly overlooked trace evidence, footprints, fingerprints, etc., and analyze the suspect’s entry and exit routes and behavioral tracks in conjunction with the site environment.”

”Alright, I now ask all the handling units to strictly follow the guiding opinions put forward by Director Hou and Mr. Jiang, to meticulously implement each investigation measure, strengthen cooperation and coordination, and strive for an early breakthrough in this case.”

”Meeting adjourned!”

After the meeting, Mr. Qin specifically reorganized the personnel configuration of the task force, making more detailed arrangements.

A little later, he invited Director Hou and Mr. Jiang to his office for a short break.

As he entered, Mr. Qin smiled and walked toward the cabinet along the wall.

”Director Hou, Mr. Jiang, it’s rare for you to come to Qinzhou. We don’t have much to show off here, except that our tea is quite famous.”

As he spoke, he opened a canister, ”This is the newly picked Bamboo Leaf Green from this year, grown in my hometown. The buds are plump, the color is bright, and when brewed, the aroma is refreshing and mellow. You must try some.”

After speaking, he opened a small refrigerator next to the cabinet and took out the tea canister.

Seeing this, Director Hou jokingly said, ”Ah, Mr. Qin, you’re living well!”

”Not to mention having a private office, you even have a mini-fridge? Quite impressive!”

Mr. Qin quickly waved his hand, explaining, ”Not at all, this fridge is a mini model I used in the dormitory before. I later found out that I wasn’t using it often, so I just moved it to the office.”

”Tea leaves are delicate, especially this spring tea, which needs to be preserved at a low temperature to retain its flavor. Keeping it in the fridge ensures it stays fresh.”

As he spoke, he took out two glass cups, each adding a small amount of tea leaves, which rustled as they fell into the cups, resembling bamboo leaves.

Then, Mr. Qin slowly poured the freshly boiled water, and with the rising steam, the tea leaves gradually unfurled in the water, filling the room with a refreshing tea aroma, bringing a sense of calm.

Mr. Qin handed the brewed tea to Director Hou and Mr. Jiang, then sat down by the tea table and said, ”I really appreciate you both making the special trip to Qinzhou to guide our work today.”

”To be honest, your presence here has significantly encouraged all our comrades at the city bureau.”
