The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”Basically, it’s confirmed.”

”Upon comparison, his palm length exactly matches the unique left palm print we found at the crime scene.”

”Moreover, details such as the thickness ratio of the fingers and the shape of the joint protrusions are also highly consistent.”

At this point, Jiang An’s gaze suddenly shot toward Guo Yong, his tone sharp, ”Guo Yong, what’s with your middle finger?”

”Why is the tip missing a section?”

Guo Yong’s body trembled slightly, but his mouth remained defiant: ”I was working in a factory before, and it got crushed by a machine. Since then, it’s been shorter.”

”What, you now bully disabled people?”

”Is that a crime too?”

”I am not bullying disabled people,” Jiang An said, enunciating each word, ”I am stating a fact.”

”The left hand with its unique disability trait is precisely the key evidence left on the victim and the murder weapon during the murder!”

”It’s this hand that exposed your crime!”

Upon hearing this, Guo Yong froze, as if struck by something invisible.

He slowly lifted his head, a hint of panic flashing in his eyes, and then he feigned calmness by slightly lifting his face.

”What do you mean? You drag me over here in the dead of night, give me a lecture, and then accuse my hand of murder—what are you up to?”

”I’m not a big shot, but you can’t just mess with me like this!”

”What do you mean?”

Jiang An’s gaze was intense, his tone cold, ”I’ll tell you this— the pressure marks on Wang Xiu’s neck match the shape of your left hand exactly.”

Guo Yong almost blurted out, ”Damn it! That’s utter nonsense!”

”Even if... even if there are pressure marks, both your hand and mine are left hands, aren’t they?”

”Why pin it on me? Can’t it be you?”

He got more agitated, his voice rising slightly.

Jiang An refused to be swayed by his emotions and responded firmly and clearly, ”Yes, both are left hands.”

”But the shape of a left hand varies greatly from person to person.”

”Your left middle finger is missing a section, creating a noticeable length difference with the index and ring fingers.”

”For normal people, the left middle finger is usually longer than the index and ring fingers—this is the key evidence for you as the suspect, and it’s our crucial forensic evidence.”

These words struck like a heavy hammer, and Guo Yong’s face fell, his earlier agitation freezing into a rigid expression, as if all his strength had been drained.

He lowered his head, looking at his incomplete left hand with a complex gaze, as if examining a past he was unwilling to face.

As he struggled internally and hesitated, Jiang An pressed further, ”We are going to photograph your left hand and compare its morphology with the pressure marks on the right side of the deceased Wang Xiu’s neck.”

”Then, a forensic report will be issued, which can definitely serve as critical evidence in a criminal trial.”

”By then, if you wish to confess, it might be too late.”

”If you confess now, we might consider acknowledging that and treating you more leniently according to the law.”

Before Jiang An could finish, Political Commissioner Li timely chimed in: ”Guo Yong, though you might think you’re alone, from the traces at the scene it seems you are not completely cold-blooded.”

”From my many years of criminal investigation experience, if you adjust your attitude, confess honestly, and show genuine remorse, the law might consider this.”

”There’s a good chance you won’t face the death penalty, at least... you could still eventually walk out of prison and have a chance to start over.”

Director Hou’s gaze was piercing, his voice deep and imposing: ”Confess for leniency, resist and face severity.”

”This is your last chance; if you miss it, there may be no turning back.”

As his words fell, the interrogation room plunged into a dead silence.

Guo Yong lowered his head deeply, his face buried in his arms, his shoulders slightly trembling.

Five minutes later, Guo Yong finally looked up, exhaling deeply, as if releasing a heavy burden.

His eyes were vacant, his voice hoarse: ”I’ll talk, I’ll say everything.”

After saying this, he seemed utterly drained, slumping into the chair.

Seeing this, Mr. Qin immediately gave the recorder a look.

The recorder understood and quickly adjusted his posture, ready to record in detail.

Mr. Qin leaned slightly forward, his gaze locked on Guo Yong, and asked in a deep voice: ”Tell us, why did you kill Wang Xiu?”

”Explain the details of the crime and your motives.”

Guo Yong shook his head with a bitter smile, ”It’s all my youthful impulsiveness. If it weren’t for a moment of confusion, I wouldn’t have made such a huge mistake...”

”I didn’t intend to kill her that day,” Guo Yong’s voice grew softer, ”really didn’t... but she kept resisting, and in a moment of loss of control...”

His words stopped abruptly, his hands unconsciously twisted together.

Mr. Qin pursued, ”Explain the specific details clearly.”

”You must have investigated already,” Guo Yong took a deep breath, ”I was working at a construction site before, but due to a broken right hand, I got injured operating a machine, so I had to go home temporarily to recover.”

”After returning home, I had nothing to do, and Wang Xiu happened to be home alone.”

”Our families were relatives, and seeing my inconvenience, she often came to help me with chores and laundry.”

At this, there was a momentary softness in Guo Yong’s eyes, but it quickly darkened again.

”During those two months, I gradually developed feelings for her that I shouldn’t have.”

”We used to play together a lot as kids, and I had a crush on her since then, but never dared to confess due to our family ties.”

”In those days, I lost sleep over this, with her occupying my every thought.”

”That morning, after breakfast, I deliberately went to wait for her on her way to the fields, wanting to express my feelings.”

”When I finally mustered the courage to confess, she clearly rejected me, saying we were just relatives and that she was already married, and urged me to find a good woman to settle down with.”

Guo Yong’s voice began to tremble, ”I, in a rush, wanted to hold her.”

”But my right hand was injured, so I could only use my left hand, but she kept pushing me away.”

”When I heard the sound of a tractor approaching, afraid of being seen, in a panic, I pulled her into the cornfield.”

”After the tractor noise faded, she kept urging me to find a suitable woman and build a better life.”

”We sat close, I could smell her scent...”

Guo Yong’s voice grew increasingly faint, ”At that moment, I completely lost control, pounced on her and tried to kiss her.”

”She started to resist, but seeing my injured hand, her resistance was not intense; she just kept backing away.”

Guo Yong shook his head in despair, his face full of remorse: ”It’s all my momentary stupidity, and her kindness too.”

”She even told me to stop and act as if nothing happened so we could continue as before.”

”But by then, I had completely lost my mind. Later, seeing her persuasion was in vain, she threatened to call for help.”

”Afraid others would hear, I panicked and reached for her neck.”

”I only meant to stop her from shouting, to restrain her a bit, not expecting... not expecting she’d lose her breath.”

”Then what?” Mr. Qin’s voice remained calm.

”Then...” Guo Yong’s voice was almost inaudible, ”I initially wanted to continue, but seeing her dead, I was filled with panic and fear, losing interest, so... I touched her down there with my hand, that was it.”

”What happened afterward?”

”Later, seeing no one around, I panicked and ran away.”
