The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”Yesterday after the meeting adjourned, everyone thought they could take a breather, but honestly, Political Commissioner Li, Director Hou, Mr. Jiang, and I all returned to this meeting room without prior arrangement.”

”That discussion could be said to be a complete review of all previous investigation directions.”

”We laid out every detail on the table again, scrutinizing and dissecting layer by layer.”

Mr. Qin leaned forward, hands resting on the table, his tone becoming more focused: ”It was during this review process that we noticed a detail that had been consistently overlooked.”

”Previously, we had always considered ’the suspect being left-handed’ as an important investigation direction, but after Mr. Jiang’s precise analysis, we found there are points in this conclusion worth reconsidering.”

”Firstly, it’s certain that the indentation on the left side of the victim’s neck was indeed formed by the thumb, while the indentation on the right side came from the other four fingers.”

”But the key lies in the fact that when we carefully studied the sliding trajectories of these indentations, we found the perpetrator’s control over strength was unusually weak.”

He paused intentionally, then continued, ”When Mr. Jiang proposed this viewpoint last night, it certainly opened my eyes.”

”Compared to the general level of strength expected from commonly used hands, the strength reflected by the scene marks is evidently lower.”

”This discovery might fundamentally change our description of the suspect’s characteristics.”

This statement caused quite a stir among the attending officers.

Several veteran officers exchanged puzzled glances, with someone murmuring, ”What is the background of this Mr. Jiang exactly?”

”You know, our professional judgment on the victim’s neck injury was concluded after repeated assessments by forensic experts at both city and county level.”

”Although the previous judgment about the left-handedness needs adjustment, now this new ’weak strength’ theory seems to overturn all our previous assumptions?”

”It truly is puzzling,” another officer chimed in, ”If even this basic judgment needs to be overturned, haven’t all our previous investigation directions gone astray?”

For a moment, the atmosphere in the meeting room became subtle.

Each person’s face was filled with questions, and there was a cautious skepticism towards the criminal investigation expert from Jiangcheng.

This skepticism does not stem from mistrust but arises out of instinctive caution towards unknown judgments within the professional field.

Upon hearing this, Mr. Qin’s face displayed a meaningful smile as he looked around at the team members present and said steadily, ”Brothers, in our line of work, there is a principle I’ve always wanted to share with everyone — when we are unable to understand someone else’s thoughts and actions, our first reaction should not be to hurry to doubt or negate them, but to calm down and try to think from their perspective.”

”This is not just a work method but a form of professional cultivation.”

He paused slightly and shifted the topic to the focus of everyone’s attention: ”Speaking of Jiang An’s case-handling capabilities, this is something I don’t need to stress further.”

”It’s not just my personal high recognition of him; Director Hou from the provincial department, as well as colleagues from the entire provincial criminal investigation system, raise a thumbs-up when they mention Jiang An.”

”Especially in the investigation of personal injury cases, he indeed has exceptional acumen and rich practical experience.”

Mr. Qin’s tone was filled with sincere admiration: ”Everyone might not know, but Jiang An has progressed step by step from a forensic position to his current role as a criminal investigation captain.”

”Such a growth trajectory is unique within the province.”

”What’s even rarer is that he has demonstrated extraordinary professional qualities at a young age—whether it’s the meticulousness of on-site inspections, the logical rigor of case analyses, or even the depth of theoretical knowledge reserve, it’s all impressive.”

He seemed to recall something and swept his gaze across the room: ”Speaking of which, I can’t help but think of the lecture he recently gave at the provincial level.”

”The audience at that time was all top field experts from various units.”

”But as Jiang An stood on the podium, he maintained the unique vitality and sharpness of young people, with words and actions that revealed the calmness and proficiency unique to seasoned veterans in criminal investigation.”

”Such distinctive charm is not something just any young officer can possess.”

This statement immediately resonated in the meeting room.

A young officer couldn’t help but reply, ”Mr. Qin is absolutely right! I was present at that lecture, and Mr. Jiang’s explanation was indeed a breath of fresh air.”

”He combined complex forensic knowledge with real case experiences just right, allowing even us newcomers in the field to understand clearly.”

”Honestly, the depth and breadth of some explanations were even more thorough than what my university professor taught.”

The veteran officers nearby also nodded in agreement, ”That’s correct, it’s rare to see someone who can blend theory and practice so perfectly.”

”Especially his analysis on that serial murder case, the investigation approach was indeed unique.”

At this moment, Mr. Qin smiled, ”Brothers, since we have invited Jiang An to guide the case handling, we should fully trust his professional judgment.”

”As for the investigation direction he proposed, our task is to implement it thoroughly, conduct in-depth and meticulous checks, and not question someone else’s professional ability at the very initial stage.”

”Such preconceived biases do nothing but harm our work.”

He stood up, his tone becoming firm: ”Now, let me emphasize again the focus of today’s investigation.”
