The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

He paused briefly, seemingly choosing his words, ”Moreover, we cannot rule out the possibility that the killer himself suffers from male dysfunction-related diseases.”

”Although this situation is not common in violent crimes, there are indeed precedents.”

Jiang An’s gaze returned to the inner sides of the corpse’s legs.

There, near the root of the thighs, were several whitish, yet clearly identifiable scratches and local pressure marks on the skin.

These were marks left by the combined action of nails and fingertips.

Though these marks were not as glaring as the ligature marks on the neck, under sufficient light, they could still be clearly distinguished by the naked eye.

Jiang An leaned closer and examined briefly, his brows slightly furrowed: ”Indeed, significant congestion was observed at the time, making this finding highly indicative.”

”Unfortunately, after so many years, the physiological marks of congestion would have naturally faded, leaving us to rely solely on the autopsy records and photographs from back then to recreate this feature.”

His tone carried a touch of regret, ”In forensic science, congestion marks differ from regular bleeding, often dissipating quickly as local blood circulation stops or changes, and without timely recording, they can easily fade with time.”

After a moment of silence, Jiang An spoke again, ”Did we conduct a systematic investigation around the surrounding areas on individuals with male disorders after the case occurred?”

Mr. Qin sighed, showing difficulty: ”We did conduct relevant investigations.”

”But you know, these disorders involve personal privacy, are extremely discreet, and are challenging to screen.”

”Back then, we almost checked every public and private hospital’s male clinic records in the city and surrounding areas, trying to identify suspicious individuals fitting the profile.”

”However, even with a significant police effort and filtering, we ultimately failed to identify any suspicious males.”

Listening to this, Jiang An had a general outline of the investigation challenges from back then.

But he wasn’t discouraged—in fact, he believed that this seemingly interrupted clue might hide the key breakthrough.

Apart from temporary dysfunction due to tension, the killer might possess some physiological or psychological markers.

Next, Jiang An flipped the corpse, making it prone on the autopsy table to thoroughly examine the back side.

Yet even after such a thorough inspection, the surfaces of the limbs and torso showed no signs of obvious trauma or defensive wounds.

Jiang An finally said: ”So, during the initial autopsy, apart from the recorded injuries, none were found on the limbs or other parts, right?”

”Yes,” Mr. Qin affirmed, ”Besides the ligature marks on the neck and slight damage on the lower body, there were no other obvious external injuries.”

Mr. Qin pondered for a moment and replied: ”Indeed, this is one of the most puzzling aspects of this case.”

”After the incident, we conducted a comprehensive examination of the body at once; since the time of death was not long, the corpse was relatively fresh, and the external examination indeed found no obvious signs of damage.”

”Be it scratches, bruises, or other forms of external injury.”

”Then what about poisoning?” someone asked.

”We have thoroughly investigated the possibility of poisoning too.”

Mr. Qin opened the examination report in his hand, ”Aside from analyzing the stomach contents for toxins, we also extracted liver tissue and blood samples for systematic testing at the forensic toxicology laboratory.”

”The results showed that all common toxin indicators were negative, completely ruling out the possibility of conventional poisoning death.”

Just as everyone fell into contemplation, Director Hou walked forward slowly to add: ”From a behavioral analysis perspective, this situation is indeed unusual.”

”In general, humans produce a strong stress response when victimized, especially in cases involving sexual assault, where the victim is expected to fiercely resist.”

”Yet there were no signs of struggle at the scene, which cannot but make us ponder: was she unable to resist, or did she give up for some reason?”

Mr. Qin nodded in agreement: ”We have indeed considered the possibility of her being drugged.”

”But toxicology tests show that her body had no traces of sedatives and no substances capable of causing blurry consciousness.”

”Simultaneously, we also investigated whether she was drug-dependent, which also showed negative.”

These findings left the task force perplexed—even if it’s a crime involving an acquaintance, it wouldn’t be so calm when subjected to choking and sexual assault at such an extent.”

Director Hou added: ”Indeed this is the case.”

”Even in cases of intimate partner violence, traces are rarely completely absent.”

”Let alone this case, which involved such aggressive choking.”

”If it wasn’t a special emotional relationship, why didn’t she resist? This mystery continues to puzzle us.”

After a brief discussion, both their gazes simultaneously fell on the silent Jiang An.

Only to see Jiang An focused on observing the deceased’s hands, wrists, and facial features.

Under strong light, the deceased’s face showed no abnormalities.

”Was an oral examination conducted?” Jiang An suddenly asked.

”Yes.”

Mr. Qin immediately responded, ”We paid particular attention to the oral area at the time.”

”Her teeth were intact without signs of loosening or breaking.”

”Did you discover any bleeding during the examination?”

”No,” Mr. Qin confirmed, ”The gum tissue was intact, and the oral mucosa showed no bleeding points.”

After some time, the entire autopsy room plunged into an abrupt silence.

Everyone lowered their heads, lost in their thoughts, with only occasional faint ticking sounds from the instruments.

Director Hou stood not far from the autopsy table, frowning.

In fact, he had prepared mentally before coming—this was definitely not an ordinary case.

However, at this moment, he truly realized that this case was far more complicated than he imagined.

Not only lacking clear investigative entry points, it also contained eerie aspects, with various clues contradicting each other, tangled like a complex mess, leaving no easy start.

After a long time, Jiang An gently put down the autopsy report in his hand, raised his head, and slowly said: ”If we exclude physical coercion or trace of force on the deceased, then might there be another possibility—a form of non-physical coercion or compulsion that led her to be unable to resist?”

”Non-physical, compelling inability to resist?”

Captain Qin Feng raised his head immediately upon hearing this, his eyes flashing with confusion and curiosity.

Even the experienced Director Hou subconsciously leaned forward, his face full of perplexity: ”Captain Jiang, please elaborate.”

Jiang An spoke deeply: ”From a behavioral perspective, people typically resist instinctively when faced with danger, especially when their lives are threatened or their bodies are violated.”

”It’s our survival instinct.”

”But in this case, the deceased did not exhibit such instinctive reactions at all.”

”I believe there are several causes for this abnormal phenomenon.”

”First, although our autopsy did not detect common drug and toxin poisoning, this implies the exclusion of drug influence.”

”Second, it might be due to facing guns, sharp tools, or other deadly threats, causing extreme fear and abandoning resistance. But we found no corresponding coercion marks or injuries caused by resistance on the corpse’s surface.”

”Since we’ve ruled out these physical threat factors, then we need to consider a third possibility—whether there’s non-physical coercion?”

”For instance, does the perpetrator hold some unknown privacy of the deceased?”

”Or possess leverage threatening her reputation, family, or even important interpersonal relationships?”

”This invisible pressure can sometimes be more intimidating than tangible weapons.”

Director Hou nodded thoughtfully, ”Indeed, this possibility cannot be ruled out. Yet...”

He paused, uncertainty laced in his tone, ”Considering the limited information at hand, I always feel there’s some contradiction within this case.”

”While struggling signs were initially apparent, at the critical moment during the assault, she seemed to completely give up resistance.”

”What exactly changed her from being able to resist to not resisting at all, or even being unaware of resisting?”
