The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 645: Chapter 356: His Psychological Tactics

”No, no!”

Mr. Ma quickly explained, ”To be honest, I have a favor to ask of you today.”

”You don’t need to talk about favors and all!”

The old classmate’s voice suddenly rose, ”As long as it’s within my capabilities, it won’t be a problem.”

”I’ve always remembered the camaraderie we had back then!”

Mr. Ma couldn’t help but smile at these words, cleared his throat, and said seriously, ”Old buddy, I gratefully accept your help.”

”I want to invite you to Jiangcheng to guide us in investigating a challenging murder case.”

”A murder case?” The voice on the other end of the line became serious immediately.

”How many victims?”

”What’s the situation at the scene?”

”Not many, just one victim.”

Mr. Ma picked up the dossier on the table and swiftly flipped through it.

”The case was initially deemed an accidental death three years ago, but recently, as we re-evaluated the evidence chain, we’ve found several suspicious points. We can now basically confirm it was murder.”

”We’ve currently identified a prime suspect, but can’t find a breakthrough.”

At this point, his tone became heartfelt, ”So I was wondering if the old classmate could come to Jiangcheng to provide some professional guidance for this case?”

”After all, you’re a recognized expert in trace identification and criminal psychological analysis.”

There was silence from the other end for a moment: ”Of course, I’ll help with this. But...”

The old classmate’s voice suddenly became subdued, ”I’ve been retired for three years now. The forensic technology advances so quickly these days, I’m afraid this old bag of bones won’t be much help.”

”The young detectives nowadays rely on big data and AI analysis; our traditional methods might truly be outdated.”

Hearing this, Mr. Ma immediately sat up straight, his tone urgent yet sincere, ”Listen, this case is unique because it’s an old case, and a lot of modern technology methods won’t be applicable.”

”Sometimes, the most traditional investigation methods are the essential tools for solving cases.”

”Your thirty years of experience in frontline criminal investigations, that is the real priceless treasure.”

A hearty laughter came from the other end of the phone: ”Ha, Mr. Ma, you’re as good with words as ever.”

”All right then, I’ll graciously accept the task.”

”But let me say upfront, if my old methods don’t work, don’t make fun of me!”

Mr. Ma leaned back on his chair, finally showing his first genuine smile of the day.

”I’m already deeply grateful if an old classmate is willing to come out and help.”

Meanwhile, Jiang An, Wan, and Zhang Yean, all arrived back at the police station covered in dust from the investigation site.

Standing at the interrogation room door, Jiang An stopped and took a deep breath.

He turned to his two partners, Zhang Yean was frowning as she sorted the documents in her hand, while Wan constantly rubbed his temple.

”Senior brother and sister,” Jiang An lowered his voice, scanning between them closely.

”This time, we really have our backs against the wall.”

”All the clues point to Li Chuang, but we’re missing the most critical piece.”

Zhang Yean lifted her head and said solemnly, ”It’s been three years; this case should finally have closure.”

Wan nodded heavily, extending his right hand: ”No matter what, today we must get him to talk.”

Their palms stacked together, forming a determined gesture in the dim corridor.

”Let’s do it!” They said in unison, their voices soft yet full of power.

With a creak, the door to the interrogation room was pushed open.

Li Chuang slightly opened his eyes, seeing the three of them and his lips twitched into a half-smile.

”What, Mr. Jiang, are you three here to let me out?”

However, Jiang An, Wan, and Zhang Yean all had serious expressions.

Jiang An strode to the interrogation table, placing both hands on the surface, leaning down to stare into Li Chuang’s eyes.

”Let you out? You think too much.”

”Today, we’re here to confront you.”

”Confront me? How?”

Li Chuang shrugged casually, ”If you have no evidence, please let me go early.”

”My family has elder and children, and a disabled father.”

”If anything goes wrong, who can take responsibility for this?”

Jiang An sneered, standing straight as he approached Li Chuang: ”Just earlier, when I passed by your home, I saw your father was using a cane to practice rehabilitation in the yard, and your wife was helping the child with homework at a small table.”

”You don’t need to worry about family matters, but I want to talk about things between you and the deceased.”

The three sat down one after another, and the interrogation room plunged into a stifling silence.

Jiang An opened the file and softly said, ”You and the deceased were like brothers, growing up together.”

”When you were ten, you nearly drowned; the deceased jumped in to save you, do you remember?”

Upon hearing this, Li Chuang abruptly opened his eyes, staring directly at Jiang An and Wan.

His pupils contracted slightly, and his Adam’s apple moved up and down.

Yet he remained silent, his expression darkened.

Jiang An continued in a calm but powerful voice, ”If it weren’t for that rescue, you might have reincarnated by now.”

”When you got married, you had nothing, facing the girl you loved, you were at a loss, unable to provide even the basic necessities, let alone the wedding gifts.”

At this point, Jiang An paused, ”At the critical moment, again it was the deceased who helped you repair the house and provided enough dowry, do you not remember this?”

Li Chuang’s eyes widened further, his lip twitched slightly.

A flash of pain seemed to pass across his face momentarily.

He took a deep breath, feigning calmness as he said, ”So what? It’s all in the past.”

”The past?”

Jiang An slammed the table, ”You’ve betrayed the genuine kindness of others!”

His voice revealed noticeable anger for the first time.

”Moreover, when your father was seriously ill in the hospital, the deceased’s parents lent you all their savings for your father’s treatment.”

”You still went to take his money, aren’t you still human?”

With a loud bang, Jiang An slapped his hand heavily on the table.

It was the first time in his career that he had used profanity in a interrogation.

His chest heaved violently, clearly struggling to control his emotions.

As a policeman, he’s usually rational.

But at this moment, he was completely consumed by anger—this person before him was simply a beast.

The interrogation room fell silent.

Li Chuang just stared at the three of them, his lips trembling, but he didn’t utter a word.

At this moment, Jiang An’s tone suddenly softened: ”Actually, you’re also feeling guilty inside, I believe you’re not inherently a bad person.”

He sat back in his chair, his voice becoming low, ”You were helpless in trying to treat your father.”

”If it weren’t for your father’s sudden illness needing so much money for treatment, you wouldn’t have taken the risk to do such illegal, immoral, and against-the-brotherhood things.”

Jiang An looked directly into Li Chuang’s eyes: ”The sea of bitterness is vast, but turn around and you can reach the shore.”

”Actually, you’ve already made many efforts in the initial stage.”

Jiang An flipped to another page, ”For instance, after the deceased was found dead, you participated in the entire funeral process.”

”Also, you helped the deceased’s family with farming and other heavy labor on many occasions,”

He paused for a moment, ”This is actually a sign of your inner guilt.”

”No, I’m not guilty!”

Li Chuang suddenly became agitated, his voice hoarse, ”I only did it out of friendship, and the murderer has nothing to do with me!”

”Nothing to do with you?”

Jiang An sneered, ”Are you sure it’s not related?”

”Didn’t your conscience feel condemned?”

”Do you think your friend in heaven won’t be watching you?”

Jiang An pressed on, ”When you sleep every night, do you think about your friend struggling in the car, calling out in vain?”

His voice grew heavier, ”I know you didn’t intend to kill him, just to take his money.”

”Even if there wasn’t a scar left on him, you neglected the circumstances at the time.”

”The weather was cold, and he had been drinking, which could easily cause leg cramps.”

At this point, Jiang An’s voice became unusually clear: ”With cramps, it’s like when you fell into the water at ten and had no ability to save yourself.”

”Do you think what I said is right?”

Jiang An sighed, ”You are fundamentally a good person, but the development of facts betrayed your original intent.”
