The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 629: Chapter 349: Launching a Comprehensive Investigation!

After a long while, the seasoned detective Li Jian, whose temples had turned gray, finally broke the silence, his voice tinged with a bit of emotion: ”Mr. Jiang, you spoke well this time, and your analysis was also very thorough.”

”To be honest, I really didn’t expect that from an apparently ordinary old case, you could unearth so many key clues and deep logic. It’s truly impressive!”

Following this, Captain Li Jian shook his head slightly, a wry smile playing on his lips.

”Even I, who have been in the field of criminal investigation for almost 30 years, feel a bit ashamed at this moment.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Instructor Zhang Chao immediately chimed in, ”Indeed.”

”Comrade Jiang An’s ability to break free from conventional thinking frameworks and re-examine issues with a new perspective in what seems to be a commonplace crime scene shows a professional competence that surpasses more than 90% of criminal investigators.”

As he spoke, his gaze turned to Jiang An, full of admiration.

Receiving praise from both leaders in public, Jiang An appeared somewhat uneasy, his mouth twitching involuntarily.

Subsequently, he humbly said: ”Captain, Instructor, you both overpraise me!”

”Just now, Mr. Li also mentioned that before the truth of the case is fully revealed, any hypothesis posed by anyone may just be an illusion, or even completely deviate from the facts.”

Hearing this, Li Jian let out a long sigh, his fingers gently tapping on the table: ”Be that as it may!”

”But compared to the complete confusion we had, at least now we have a clear direction.”

He straightened up, his gaze firmly fixed on Jiang An.

”Since we’re on the topic, what do you think about which aspects the follow-up investigation should focus on breaking through?”

”You’re now the deputy leader of the task force. We are all willing to follow your command.”

Feeling the anticipative gazes of the crowd, Jiang An instinctively straightened his back.

He said in a serious tone: ”In the early stages, our task force has already done a lot of effective work for this case.”

”Whether it’s the autopsy report or the on-site survey, all kinds of data have been collected very thoroughly.”

”I believe that the focus of the next phase of our work should be to break free from conventional thinking and attempt to conduct a multi-dimensional analysis.”

”Okay, tell us in detail.”

Li Jian and Zhang Chao responded almost in unison.

Jiang An took a deep breath and continued to elaborate, ”Let me expand from a few key points.”

”Firstly, from the traditional perspective of solving robbery and murder cases, the motive should be our focus.”

”Just now, Mr. Li led the team in multiple rounds of investigation visits and even screened suspects with relevant criminal records in the local jurisdiction, but the results have always been unsatisfactory.”

”However, I suggest that we should timely adjust our approach and try to find a breakthrough from other angles.”

”Can we reconsider from the angle of the weapon’s characteristics?”

Flipping open his notebook, he pointed at his recorded notes, ”As I mentioned in the report earlier, in this case, the victim almost did not resist effectively. Could this anomaly indicate a substantial power disparity between the suspect and the victim?”

”Like an adult facing a child, under such an overwhelming power suppression, the victim didn’t even dare to think of resisting.”

Li Jian nodded approvingly: ”This entry point is very valuable, please go on.”

”Based on this thought, I suggest a focused investigation on the control knife and gun circulation situation within the jurisdiction before and after the crime.”

Then, he enunciated each syllable: ”’Weapon source tracing.’”

”I think particular attention should be paid to whether someone has illegally obtained or rented controlled firearms.”

”This might explain why a physically strong, prime-aged victim would completely give up resistance when faced with a threat.”

Following that, Jiang An paused, then added, ”Normally, even when facing a gun-wielding criminal, a victim would instinctively struggle, at least leaving corresponding defensive wounds on the body.”

”However, these marks are conspicuously absent in this case, which is very unusual.”

”It’s truly a breakthrough line of thought.”

Instructor Zhang Chao nodded repeatedly.

Jiang An continued to analyze: ”The second point, I believe we must focus on investigating the possibility of an acquaintance crime within the victim’s social network.”

His voice gradually heightened, ”Earlier, during the case analysis, I particularly emphasized that this case cannot be simply defined as a robbery and murder because there are many conflicting points at the scene.”

”Especially the subtle expression of pity the suspect showed towards the victim.”

Seeing the puzzled expressions of the crowd, Jiang An elaborated: ”Although the fundamental motive of robbery and murder is for money, in this case, the suspect left the victim many ’leeways.’”

”Whether it’s the choice of how to dispose of the body or the relatively ’gentle’ manner of handling the corpse, it shows that there might be guilt or pity within the perpetrator’s mind.”

”More notably, I even suspect that when the suspect dumped the victim into the water, they subconsciously hoped that the victim could escape by themselves.”

”This conflicting mindset strongly suggests that the suspect had a considerable level of understanding or even possible emotional connection with the victim.”

Hearing this bold hypothesis, Zhang Chao and Captain Li Jian exchanged a look of surprise.

Jiang An continued to add: ”Of course, this hypothesis may seem rather radical.”

”But please pay attention,” he pointed at several key data points in the autopsy report, ”the suspect not only pushed the victim’s motorcycle into the water but also chose to dispose of the body in the water; these actions are inherently about creating obstacles.”
