The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 613: Chapter 342: Jiang An Hosts the Special Case Meeting Alone

After a moment of contemplation, Jiang An asked, ”Among that group of people, was there anyone else closer to the deceased than you?”

Li Chuang shook his head immediately, ”No one was closer.”

”We were childhood friends who played together from a very young age, you could say we grew up together.”

”From childhood till now, no matter what happened, I was always the first person he thought of.”

Jiang An nodded thoughtfully, ”So, no other person understands him as deeply as you do.”

Pausing slightly, he adjusted his sitting posture and asked, ”Do you know how good his motorcycle riding skills were?”

Upon hearing this, Li Chuang immediately gave a thumbs-up, ”Absolutely top-notch!”

”He was the first among us to get a motorcycle license, and his riding skills were the best.”

His eyes seemed a bit dazed, as if lost in memory.

”In my memory, he never had an accident when riding.”

”Whether it was pouring rain or a snowy road, he could ride steadily.”

”We often joked that he was born to compete in motorcycle championships.”

Hearing this description, Jiang An, Wan, and Zhang Yean exchanged a meaningful glance.

At this moment, the same question arose in their minds: How could a rider so skilled suddenly lose control and fall into a pond, especially after consuming only a small amount of alcohol and remaining sober?

Jiang An’s gaze became increasingly sharp, convinced that this case was not as simple as it appeared on the surface.

This was clearly a meticulously planned murder, with the killer attempting to cover up the truth by staging an accidental drowning.

Then, Jiang An returned his focus to his notebook and continued asking, ”About that night, you mentioned he was in a particularly good mood.”

”Based on what you know about him, can you speculate on the reason?”

Li Chuang furrowed his brow and thought for a long time, eventually shaking his head helplessly.

”So much time has passed, I really can’t remember.”

Jiang An nodded, closing his notebook, then stood up and said, ”Thank you for your cooperation.”

”The clues you’ve provided are very important to us.”

He paused, then spoke sincerely, ”I believe your dear friend will thank you from above for your efforts in uncovering the truth.”

However, just as Jiang An and the others were about to leave at the doorway, Li Chuang suddenly called after them.

”Officers, I... I have a question that’s been bothering me.”

”Why are you investigating this case again after so many years?”

Jiang An paused noticeably as he turned around.

He remained silent for a moment before saying solemnly, ”I’m not supposed to disclose this, according to regulations.”

”But considering your relationship... we suspect this wasn’t an accident but a murder.”

”What?”

”Murder?”

Li Chuang was stunned as if struck by lightning, his face turning pale immediately.

He stumbled forward and grabbed Jiang An’s arm, his voice trembling with disbelief, ”Officer, are you saying... he was killed by someone?”

Jiang An nodded firmly, ”Based on the current evidence, it’s a very strong possibility.”

Li Chuang’s eyes turned bloodshot, and the muscles on his face twitched uncontrollably.

”Officers, please, you must catch the killer!”

”He left us so suddenly back then, we all felt something was off.”

”His riding skills were so good, and he hadn’t drunk much...”

Speaking of this, he suddenly became excited, ”Now that you mention it, I do recall there were indeed many suspicious things that night!”

Jiang An patted his shoulder to reassure him, ”It’s precisely because there are so many doubts in the case that we’re reinvestigating it.”

His tone then turned serious, ”If you recall any details, no matter how small, please contact us immediately.”

”Definitely, definitely!”

Li Chuang repeatedly nodded, his voice choking, ”Thank you... really, thank you... please ensure justice for him...”

After the three got into the police car, Jiang An gazed through the window at the middle-aged man with hunched shoulders standing at the doorway, feeling an indescribable heaviness in his heart.

Wan, holding the steering wheel, glanced at the silent Jiang An, ”What’s up?”

”You seem deeply troubled.”

Jiang An sighed heavily, ”Every time I handle such a case, I always think...” His voice was low and weary.”

”The process of seeking the truth, but when the truth is revealed, it becomes even more unbearable.”

Sitting in the back, Zhang Yean added with deep empathy, ”Yes, some cases’ cruelty far exceeds our imagination.”

After the police car traveled about two kilometers, Wan glanced at the rearview mirror, ”Mr. Jiang, where are we heading next?”

Jiang An raised his hand to check his watch, pondered for a moment and said, ”It’s getting late, so let’s go back to the station to summarize the situation first.”

His gaze was directed towards the distance, ”Let’s see if the other teams have any new findings, then decide the next course of investigation.”

”Understood.”

Wan nodded and turned the steering wheel, ”Then let’s head back to the station first.”

By noon, the criminal investigation teams who went out were returning one by one, with sweat stains evident on the back of each person’s uniform.

Though it was lunchtime, the meeting room was packed, and everyone was holding their breath, waiting for the case summary to begin.

At 1:30, Captain Li Jian and Instructor Zhang Chao entered one after the other.

Jiang An immediately stood up and said earnestly, ”Mr. Li, Instructor, you should take more rest.”

”If there’s anything important, I will report to you immediately.”

Li Jian waved his hand, ”We’re comrades in the same trench now.”

”In this temporary task force, you’re the deputy team leader, and we’ll follow your lead.”
