The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 615: Chapter 343: Reverse Investigation Thinking

Seeing everyone in the conference room whispering and conversing, Jiang An gently knocked on the table.

As the discussion subsided, he calmly spoke, ”Fellow colleagues, please quiet down for a moment.”

His voice wasn’t loud but exuded strength, and the conference room quickly fell silent.

After scanning the room, Jiang An, with a serious expression, continued, ”I know there might be some differing opinions regarding my suggestion to particularly focus on financial clues in this case.”

At this point, he specifically turned his gaze towards Li Jian and Instructor Zhang Chao seated in the front row.

Although both of them also had puzzled expressions on their faces, being seasoned detectives,

they showed more restraint, neither engaging in discussions nor immediately questioning, instead choosing to patiently listen to the analysis first.

Jiang An gave a slight nod and continued to delve into his viewpoint, ”In this case, I believe the motive behind the crime is the most crucial breakthrough point.”

”Based on my experience in handling cases, homicides rarely occur without reason.”

He picked up the case file on the table and turned to the evidence record page, ”From the site investigation, the deceased indeed had a mobile phone and a small amount of loose change.”

”But everyone should note that the deceased’s phone was an ordinary model, even more limited in value being second-hand.”

”More importantly, if the killer was after money, taking the phone would leave more crime clues, which clearly doesn’t make sense.”

At this point, Jiang An paused intentionally, then pointed out another suspicious aspect, ”As for the loose change in the wallet...”

”I’m not sure if anyone has noticed a detail: the deceased’s wallet had a large capacity, but there were only a few bills inside.”

”This anomaly is worth examining.”

After a brief pause, Jiang An placed both hands on the conference table, leaning forward slightly.

”Therefore, I suggest that besides continuing to check the surrounding areas, the next step of the investigation should also focus on verifying whether the deceased carried a large amount of cash that night.”

”This clue could very well be directly related to determining the nature of the case.”

His tone became increasingly firm, ”The killer went to such great lengths, not only killing the deceased but also pushing the motorcycle into the river, so there must be a strong motive for the crime.”

”If other life conflicts are ruled out, financial factors are often the most likely inducement.”

With Jiang An’s methodical analysis, the murmurs in the conference room gradually subsided.

Seeing everyone listening intently, Jiang An proposed a third investigative direction, ”Third, I suggest draining the water again from the pond from that year and conducting a thorough check of the sludge layer.”

As soon as his voice fell, Instructor Zhang Chao spoke softly, ”We drained the water completely that year and even checked the bottom; we found no clues.”

Jiang An nodded in understanding, ”The instructor is right; at that time, we did check the bottom.”

”But we didn’t thoroughly investigate the sludge layer.”

”Fortunately, the pond has been abandoned since the case occurred, preserving the valuable original scene for us.”

He opened the autopsy report to supplement, ”The latest autopsy results show that while the deceased died from drowning, it was not a voluntary entry into the water.”

”There was extensive patchy subcutaneous hemorrhage on the back, consistent with being lifted and then thrown into the water by someone.”

”In this process, other evidence may very well have been left at the bottom.”

Seeing Zhang Chao want to say something, Li Jian gently patted his arm, indicating to listen to Jiang An’s analysis first.

Jiang An, noticing this, spoke with more sincerity, ”Of course, this is just a speculative direction on my part, and I can’t guarantee there will be results.”

”But investigation is about not overlooking any possibilities, right?”

All the participants nodded in agreement.

Finally, Jiang An summarized, ”The above are the three key investigation directions I am proposing.”

”If anyone has better suggestions, they are welcome anytime to discuss.”

He turned his gaze to the two leaders, ”Mr. Li, Mr. Zhang, do you have anything to add?”

The two leaders exchanged glances, and Li Jian spoke on their behalf, ”Jiang’s analysis is very comprehensive, and for now, there’s nothing to add.”

Jiang An closed the folder, stood up, and announced, ”That concludes today’s meeting, dismissed.”

After the meeting, the entire criminal investigation team immediately commenced intensive operations according to the new deployment plan.

A team led by experienced detectives, as per Jiang An’s instructions, systematically and thoroughly cleared evidence from the past, not only reorganizing the preservation status of all evidence but also using the newest trace element detection device, DNA rapid comparison system, and other high-tech equipment for comprehensive examination.

Another team retrieved all property-related case files within a five-kilometer radius of the crime scene over nearly a decade, aiming to find potential related clues through cross-reference.

At this moment, in the hallway of the criminal investigation team meeting room.

Jiang An said, ”Wan, the task of the pond may have to be in your hands.”

”Is it to pump water and catch fish? Haha.”

Wan laughed heartily, trying to ease the tense work atmosphere.

”Catching fish is not the main focus.”

Jiang An said seriously, ”I believe it’s necessary to conduct a thorough survey of the riverbed.”

”According to my analysis, there may still be undiscovered evidence at the bottom.”

At this point, Zhang Yean asked curiously, ”Brother, why do you think there could be something at the bottom?”

”The forensic report doesn’t seem to mention clues in this regard.”

”It’s not a hundred percent certain, primarily based on my analysis of the injury patterns on the body.”

Jiang An analyzed, ”The bruising on the deceased’s back shows a particular symmetry, which is likely caused by being swung like a ’swing’ by someone.”
