The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 631: Chapter 350: Isn’t This a Bit Too Coincidental?

In the corridors of the Jiangcheng City Public Security Bureau, Instructor Zhang Chao walked briskly at the forefront.

The sound of leather shoes striking the marble floor echoed crisply.

His brows slightly furrowed, beads of sweat faintly visible on his forehead, obviously pondering some important matter.

Following behind him were four young police officers, each carrying a hint of curiosity and puzzlement.

The detective Qin in the middle occasionally glanced up, while Zhang habitually pushed the glasses up on his nose.

Xiaoqiang suddenly stopped, pointed at the heavy iron door in front of them, and asked in surprise, ”Instructor, we’re coming here?”

The words ”Archive Room” on the door were slightly faded but still clearly visible.

The paint on the iron door had started to peel, revealing dark red rust underneath, exuding a sense of time’s passage.

Zhang Chao skillfully fiddled with the key while speaking without turning back, ”I know you all have doubts. Don’t rush, let’s discuss inside.”

With a ”click,” the door lock opened.

As the door was pushed open, a unique smell of old paper mixed with dust wafted over, causing everyone to instinctively hold their breath.

The archive room was large, spanning over two hundred square meters, with several fluorescent lights hanging from the high ceiling, emitting a harsh white glow.

Rows of iron filing cabinets were neatly arranged, covered with classification labels, extending from the floor to the ceiling.

”Instructor!”

Xiaoqiang couldn’t hold back anymore, his voice producing a slight echo in the spacious archive room.

”Weren’t we supposed to go out for the investigation? Why are we suddenly in the archive room?”

Zhang Chao didn’t answer immediately and instead walked to the nearest filing cabinet. ”Brothers,” he turned around with a meaningful smile on his face, ”the people involved in this case might be far more than we imagined.”

”If we wander aimlessly like headless flies, it’s too inefficient.”

As Zhang Chao spoke, his gaze swept across the faces of the three, ”Do you know why?”

Zhang pushed his glasses, the eyes behind the lenses gleaming with thought, ”But Instructor, aren’t we introducing a new smart search system? I heard it can quickly retrieve all related case information.”

Zhang Chao nodded, walked to the window, and opened the blinds. Sunlight streamed through, casting a long shadow.

”The system is still in the testing phase, and the help it can provide is limited currently.”

Turning back, he stood against the sun, his face hidden in shadow.

”Have you considered that this robbery case happened three years ago, and if the criminal used a gun back then...”

Before he finished speaking, Detective Qin suddenly slapped his thigh, ”I get it!”

His voice trembled slightly with excitement, ”The purchase time for the gun should also be around the time of the crime, not now!”

”Checking those with a criminal record now would be like finding a needle in a haystack!”

”Precisely.”

Zhang Chao gave Qin an approving look, his lips slightly curving up.

”But if we shift our focus back to three years ago...” his voice trailed off, leaving a meaningful silence.

The three young officers looked at each other, digesting this shift in thinking.

After a few seconds, Qin couldn’t help but give a thumbs up, ”Instructor, your insight is brilliant! Why didn’t I think of it?”

Zhang Chao waved his hand, but couldn’t hide the pride on his face, ”Stop with the flattery. This is all fundamental work. If you spend more time studying cases, it wouldn’t be this way...”

”Instructor!” Qin interrupted with a wry smile, ”You don’t know how overwhelmed we are just handling daily assessments and reports.”

”Last week, the tech department pulled three all-nighters just to complete the data entry for the new system.”

”Alright, alright!”

Zhang Chao walked to the desk and dusted off the accumulated dirt, ”Let’s start working now. Focus on checking all gun-related cases three years ago and organize information on all main and accomplice offenders.”

His voice suddenly turned serious, ”Remember, don’t overlook any detail.”

The five immediately went into action.

The atmosphere in the archive room turned tense yet orderly.

Sounds of the cabinet doors opening and closing, the rustling of pages, and occasional whispered exchanges intertwined.

Two hours later, when the final file was returned to its place, everyone let out a sigh of relief.

”Is this all?”

Zhang Chao looked at the seven case files neatly arranged on the desk, his brows furrowing.

He picked up the top one, quickly flipping through the yellowing pages.

Qin wiped the sweat from his forehead, ”Instructor, as per your request, we’ve located all gun-related cases from three years ago within Jiangcheng.”

He handed over a list, ”In Jiangcheng, these meet the criteria. Seven main offenders, nineteen accomplices... Here’s the detailed information on all of them, including their current detention locations and contact details.”

Zhang Chao took the list, his eyes swiftly scanning the names.

Suddenly, his finger stopped at one name, his eyes slightly narrowed, ”Wang Jianjun... This name seems familiar.”

Zhang glanced over, ”Isn’t it the convenience store armed robbery case from three years ago? He was released due to insufficient evidence.”

”Very good,”

Zhang Chao’s lips curved into a slight smile, ”Let’s go see him immediately...”

Zhang Chao looked around at his three fatigued but energetic subordinates and suddenly raised his voice, ”Brothers, this time we must chase down this lead to the end!”

”Yes!”

The voices echoed in unison throughout the archive room, reigniting the young officers’ spirits, sweeping away previous fatigue.
