The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 641: Chapter 354: Textbook Deduction (Part 2)

”He probably anticipated that we didn’t have much evidence on him. When we took him to the interrogation room, he looked indifferent and even resisted our questioning.”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Ma paused for a moment.

This wasn’t the first time he’d encountered such a killer.

In his younger days, he’d often faced situations where breakthroughs were made solely through confessions with little evidence.

After a long silence, he said deeply, ”Mr. Li, in the investigation of cases, we need to broaden our thinking. Besides the traditional physical evidence deducing and forming a closed loop of evidence, shouldn’t you consider other avenues?”

”Other avenues?”

Li Jian wanted to ask what these avenues were, but Mr. Ma suddenly said, ”I have to leave for a meeting!”

Then, there was a busy tone from the other end of the phone.

After hanging up, Li Jian frowned: ”Mr. Ma asked us to consider other possibilities, but where do we start?”

In fact, they all understood that solving a criminal case seems complicated but is actually quite simple.

It’s nothing more than those elements, but figuring them out is still a very long road.

Ten minutes later, Jiang An suddenly said, ”Captain, instructor, if we can’t determine with tangible evidence, could we break through with psychological guilt?”

”Psychological guilt?”

”What do you mean?”

”Would a murderer feel guilty?”

Wan suddenly asked, and even Zhang Yean looked puzzled.

This was a rather unorthodox starting point for solving the case.

However, both Captain Li Jian and Instructor Zhang Chao fell into thought after hearing it.

They believed Jiang An’s idea had potential, but implementing it might be difficult.

After a sigh, Instructor Zhang Chao said, ”Mr. Jiang, that is indeed a very good approach to the case.”

”However, this case is a bit special.”

”In this case, the killer even murdered his best friend.”

”Imagine how cold and heartless his mind must be.”

”If we try to break through purely through emotional influence, the effect may not be significant.”

Hearing this, Li Jian nodded slightly.

”Exactly!”

”Trying to reform such a heinous criminal with familial or friendship bonds is as hard as climbing the sky.”

In contrast, Jiang An was a bit optimistic. He smiled and said, ”Actually, I have my own preliminary judgment and ideas about this case.”

”I think this method is worth a try.”

Seeing the confident look on Jiang An’s face, Li Jian curiously asked, ”Mr. Jiang, do you have enough basis for this?”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An nodded slightly.

He said solemnly, ”I am confident!”

”Recalling that when the case happened, Li Chuang’s father suddenly suffered a stroke with cerebral hemorrhage three years ago, and Li Shuang ran around multiple times to raise money for his father’s treatment.”

”From this, we can see that Li Chuang is a filial person.”

”Especially the day before the incident, he even proactively went to find the attending doctor to plead for a few days’ grace to perform his father’s craniotomy first.”

”Because Li Chuang knew that the earlier the craniotomy was performed, the earlier the recovery, and it might even affect the later limb movements.”

”However, the hospital’s rules were not negotiable.”

”Therefore, this money means a lot to Li Chuang.”

”That’s why he made a choice between saving his father and betraying his friends’ trust.”

”According to the preliminary investigation, Li Chuang gathered many good friends for a party that night.”

”Regarding this party, I don’t know what people think, but I believe the party that night wasn’t just about eating and drinking; it was very likely a way to raise money.”

”Raising money?”

”Are you saying the dinner that night was to borrow money?”

”But no one mentioned this borrowing at the dinner that night during the preliminaries.”

Li Jian asked curiously.

At that time, he did indeed visit all the attendees of the party, and no one mentioned Li Chuang talking about borrowing money during the gathering.

Jiang An smiled: ”I believe he did not openly ask all his friends for money that night.”

”The main reason is not that he didn’t want to borrow money but because he thought of a faster way than borrowing, and that is robbery.”

”As the best friend and playmate of the deceased, he should have known or even been informed by the deceased firsthand about the 20,000 yuan winnings from gambling.”

”Could he take this opportunity to rob? This is indeed a critical point.”

Hearing Jiang An’s analysis, Li Jian and Instructor Zhang Chao exchanged glances and nodded slightly where their eyes met.

Then Li Jian said, ”If we analyze it this way, it seems to make some sense.”

At this moment, Wan suddenly stepped forward and asked, ”Are you saying that the purpose of organizing the dinner that night was to borrow money, not to socialize?”

Jiang An nodded: ”I think this possibility is very high.”

Zhang Yean then asked: ”But why did he later choose to work with others to do such a thing?”

”Couldn’t he complete it on his own?”

For this question, both Li Jian and Instructor Zhang Chao fell into thought.

However, Jiang An finally said, ”It’s not that he couldn’t complete it, but he simply didn’t want to harm the deceased.”

Upon hearing this, Wan and Zhang Yean became even more confused.

”What do you mean?”

”Isn’t this contradictory?”

......

Facing the doubts of his seniors, Jiang An continued, ”Actually, I’ve always had a question about this corpse.”

”Why didn’t the killer leave any marks on the deceased’s body?”

”I didn’t see any violent trauma from the robbery or any threatening stab wounds either.”

”It’s just subcutaneous bleeding from a slap on the back.”

”What does this indicate?”

”This fully indicates that although the killer showed a violent tool, no actual harmful behavior was carried out.”

”Moreover, I believe in this case, the reason why the killer threw him into the water was actually just to restrain his behavior.”

”Including pushing the motorcycle into the water also aimed to restrain his actions.”

”In fact, I suspect that only someone who knows he can swim and self-rescue would do such a thing.”

”And Li Chuang had all the conditions.”

”His purpose was not to murder his playmate, but merely to get money.”

”This 20,000 yuan was originally money the deceased won from gambling, just taking it as unearned wealth.”

Hearing Jiang An’s analysis, both Li Jian and Instructor Zhang Chao nodded.

Li Jian said softly, ”Right, hearing what Captain Jiang said, I’m starting to understand.”

”It turns out the whole case might indeed be developing in this direction.”

”We didn’t see any apparent injuries on the body, no signs of resistance, not even the deceased’s phone or small change was taken.”

”This actually shows the leniency and concern between acquaintances, even an attempt to restrain his actions, not to harm him.”

Then, Jiang An concluded this time: ”So from this perspective, Li Chuang must feel guilty over the deceased’s death, and very guilty at that.”

”He never expected that a good friend would die in the river.”

”Of course, in my opinion, the reason why he didn’t swim up might have been due to a sudden cramp, making him unable to swim.”

”Therefore, I think our next step is to attack from this angle, and maybe under extreme guilt, he will admit to this criminal fact.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Li Jian said, ”Well said, I agree with this opinion.”

His previously frowning brows relaxed again, filled with confidence in the interrogation of this case.

Instructor Zhang Chao also raised his hand to pat Jiang An on the shoulder, ”This is simply textbook reasoning.”
