The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 639: Chapter 353: But You Want to Take a Shortcut! (2)

Zhang Yean struggled to recall: ”I think it’s called... right, Qi!”

Hearing this name, Jiang An’s mouth twitched sharply.

All the clues suddenly linked together at this moment.

A complete process of the crime gradually became clear in his mind.

”Mr. Qi, are you sure?”

Jiang An’s eyes widened, disbelief written all over his face.

His fingers unconsciously tightened around the phone.

Just now, the instructor had urgently informed him over the phone about Mr. Qi’s sudden disappearance.

If this case in front of them is truly connected to Mr. Qi, then the severity far exceeds their expectations.

She said, ”At the first visit with Li Chuang, he mentioned this matter to us.”

At this moment, Wan suddenly slapped his forehead and interjected, ”That’s right! I also remember a Qi being mentioned.”

”Connected, everything connected!”

Jiang An’s face instantly turned pale, the discovery struck him like lightning on his scalp.

”The instructor said Mr. Qi suddenly disappeared, just as we are investigating this case.”

”Disappeared?”

”Disappeared?”

Zhang Yean and Wan exclaimed in unison.

Jiang An’s face suddenly showed a remorseful expression.

He hit his thigh forcefully, ”Damn it! How didn’t I think of this when I was at Li Chuang’s place just now!”

His speech rate increased due to excitement, ”Before leaving, I casually asked him about that friend who came with him at the time!”

”A strange friend?”

Zhang Yean immediately understood, grabbed the car keys, and dashed out, ”Go, rush back to Li Chuang’s house immediately! Now!”

No sooner said than done, Wan switched gears, the engine emitted a deep roar.

The scenery outside the car window retreated rapidly, Jiang An stared intently ahead, fingers constantly tapping the car door.

minutes later, when their vehicle entered the village where Li Chuang lived.

A rural bus was starting slowly, a man in a dark jacket with a bulging travel bag was stepping onto the vehicle.

Jiang An, sitting in the passenger seat, leaned forward sharply.

That back froze all the blood in his body.

”Senior brothers and sister, look! The one about to get on the car, doesn’t he look like Li Chuang?”

Zhang Yean squinted, carefully identifying through the windshield.

”The figure is similar! That walking posture...”

”It’s him!”

Wan said firmly, ”Look at the style of the backpack, it’s exactly the same as what we saw at his house this morning!”

”Stop him! We absolutely can’t let him escape!”

Jiang An’s voice was hoarse with tension.

Without a word, Wan sharply turned the steering wheel, the police car made a beautiful drift, blocking the bus steadily.

Amid the shrieking brakes, the bus driver was startled pale by the sudden interception.

But upon realizing it was a police car, his anger quickly turned to confusion.

Jiang An, Zhang Yean, and Wan simultaneously drew their guns and got out of the car, their movements perfectly synchronized.

Jiang An swiftly walked to the driver’s window, showing his identification: ”Police investigation, please turn off the engine immediately and hand over the keys.”

The driver looked bewildered, but in front of three dark gun barrels, he sensibly complied.

Jiang An took the keys and handed them to Zhang Yean, who nodded knowingly — possessing the keys equated to cutting off the escape possibility.

”Police investigation, everyone immediately get off the bus for inspection!”

Zhang Yean announced loudly at the bus door.

The passengers looked at each other, then walked off the bus one by one.

When Li Chuang appeared at the bus door with his luggage, his gaze met the three police officers, his pupils visibly contracted.

But soon, he regained his composure.

He even forced a smile, ”Oh, what a coincidence? Meeting again.”

Jiang An stepped forward, his right hand seemingly casually placed on his shoulder, but actually applying pressure.

”That’s right, such a coincidence.”

Before the words were finished, his left hand had already taken out handcuffs, with a ”click,” locking Li Chuang’s hands.

The cold touch of metal made Li Chuang shiver all over.

”What are you doing? Why are you arresting me?”

Li Chuang suddenly struggled, his voice filled with anger and panic.

”Why?” Zhang Yean took a step forward, her sharp gaze fixed on Li Chuang’s eyes.

”Based on your suspected involvement in a murder, please cooperate with us and return to the Criminal Investigation Team to accept the investigation.”

”Nonsense! I haven’t committed any crime!”

Sweat beaded on Li Chuang’s forehead.

Wan said coldly, ”Whether or not you’ve committed a crime isn’t up to you to decide. The law will render a fair judgment.”

Li Chuang wanted to argue further, but the handcuffs restrained him, making him realize resistance was futile.

He stared intensely at Jiang An and Wan, a complex gleam in his eyes.

Half an hour later, the heavy iron door of the interrogation room closed behind Li Chuang.

Meanwhile, Li Jian and Zhang Congcong rushed back.

Seeing Li Chuang seated in the interrogation room, Li Jian pushed the door open directly: ”I’ll join the interrogation.”

Jiang An nodded in acknowledgment and then turned towards the one-way glass direction.

He knew that the instructor and others were closely observing every move from the monitoring room.

In the monitoring room, Zhang Chao tapped his chin and chuckled, ”This is quite the luxurious interrogation lineup, with both the captain and the special task force deputy leader personally involved.”

”Isn’t it,” Wan said, watching the monitor screen, ”This is practically an all-star lineup. I believe we’ll get to the bottom of this soon.”

The interrogation officially began.

Jiang An put both hands on the table, leaning slightly forward: ”Do you know why we called you in?”

Li Chuang shrugged, pretending to be relaxed: ”I really don’t understand what you’re talking about.”

”Don’t understand?”

Jiang An smirked, ”With bags packed and ready to flee, don’t tell me you were visiting relatives.”

”I suddenly wanted to go out for work, can’t I?”

Li Chuang avoided Jiang An’s gaze.

”Work?”

”When we met this morning, you didn’t mention that.”

Li Chuang impatiently shook his head: ”Do I have to report to the police when I go out for work?”

”Of course not,” Jiang An slapped the table abruptly.

”But, we suspect you’re involved in a murder case!”

”And the deceased isn’t just anybody, it’s your childhood friend!”

”Ridiculous!” Li Chuang suddenly became agitated.

”I even asked you to solve the case quickly today, to seek justice for him! How did I suddenly become the murderer?”

”Is this how you police officers just frame people randomly?”

”Frame?”

Jiang An drew out a stack of documents from a folder, ”We have conclusive evidence.”

He said solemnly, ”Now, state your name, age, gender, profession.”

Li Chuang wanted to refuse, but under the sharp gaze of two pairs of eyes.

He reluctantly spoke, ”Li Chuang, male, 39 years old, farmer.”

Jiang An pointed to the bright red slogan on the wall: ”Do you see those eight words? ’Be lenient to those who confess, and severe to those who resist.’

Now I give you a chance to voluntarily explain, and we might be able to seek leniency for you.

He deliberately slowed his speech, ”Think about your elderly father, still bedridden now.”

”As long as you cooperate, there might be a turnaround.”

Li Chuang’s Adam’s apple moved a little, but he quickly regained his composure.

”Officer, I really don’t know what you’re talking about.”

”I’ve provided all the clues I had. Instead of catching the real culprit, you’re interrogating me?”

Li Jian interjected: ”Providing clues and being involved in a case are two different things.”

”Right now, you are the biggest suspect in this case. Please adjust your attitude.”

”Evidence?” Li Chuang defiantly raised his chin.

”Three years ago, your father suddenly had a cerebral hemorrhage.”

Jiang An said word by word, ”The last remittance was less than six hours from the time of the crime, and the amount matched the missing money of the deceased perfectly.”

Li Chuang’s body visibly trembled, and his face instantly turned pale. He forced himself to remain calm: ”I don’t understand what you’re saying.”

”Don’t understand?”

Jiang An stood up, looking down at him, ”The deceased won 20,000 yuan playing cards that night, and he brought that money to your gathering.”

”Tell me you didn’t know this!”

Li Chuang laughed dryly twice: ”Officer, I really didn’t know he had that much money on him.”

Jiang An fiercely threw a stack of medical records on the table, ”But it’s not the same for you! Your father urgently needed a craniotomy at the time, you borrowed money from friends and relatives but still couldn’t gather enough for the surgery fee, you even knelt down to ask the doctor for credit!”

”You set up the evening not to rob, but to borrow money from friends to save a life.”

”However, you wanted to take a shortcut.....”
