The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 634: Chapter 351: The Suspect Gradually Emerges!

Wan also said: ”Exactly!”

”If it were me, I’d never be capable of doing such a cruel thing.”

Jiang An turned his head and smiled: ”I’ve studied abnormal psychology before.”

”The cruelest thing isn’t weapons or beasts, but the human heart.”

”When you peel away the layers of the human heart, you’ll find it’s uglier than anything else.”

Wan quickly puckered his lips: ”Yes!”

”With such profound insight, I’m suddenly realizing you’re a bit deep?”

Zhang Yean turned to look at Jiang An, noticing his serious expression, not like he was joking.

”Do you mean three years ago when his father was seriously ill and hospitalized, that money likely came from the deceased’s thirty thousand yuan?”

Jiang An nodded and said: ”We can’t rule out that possibility.”

”I just specifically asked how much his father’s hospital stay cost.”

”He mentioned it very casually, just one or two ten thousand yuan.”

”That’s obviously impossible!”

”I’ve interned at a hospital, any craniotomy costs at least fifty thousand, plus post-surgery treatment, definitely not less than eighty thousand.”

”So, we’re thinking of getting the list of expenses from his father’s hospital stay three years ago to see the actual amount.”

”If the costs are higher and there’s an urgent need for money, his suspicion level will skyrocket.”

Hearing this, Wan suddenly responded, saying in a deep voice: ”Right, what you’re saying makes a lot of sense.”

Then, a sudden thought hit him: ”Could it be that the dinner he treated that night was actually to borrow money?”

”It’s a possibility.” Zhang Yean brainstormed, opening her mind.

”If he urgently needed to borrow money back then, that would make sense.”

Meanwhile, Li Jian tirelessly embarked on a new round of visits and investigations.

He successively found the other two people who were playing poker with the deceased that night.

During separate inquiries, the situation they provided basically matched the previously gathered information.

According to their recollections, when the deceased left the game room, he was extremely anxious, hurriedly gathering his belongings while repeatedly emphasizing that he was going to attend an important dinner party.

Before leaving, the deceased also specifically assured them that he would definitely be back the next day to continue playing poker.

As for what happened afterward, both claimed to know nothing about it.

On another side, the investigation team led by Zhang Chao also made new progress.

After many twists and turns, they finally found a suspect involved in the supermarket robbery case years ago, next to a main road in the city.

Time had passed, and the former robber was now wearing a conspicuous brick-red cleaning uniform, diligently sweeping the streets under the blazing sun.

Outdoor labor had made his skin dark and shiny, making him look much older than his actual age.

Zhang Chao calmly approached, showing his police badge in front of him.

”Hello, we are officers from the Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Unit, and we have a case that requires your cooperation in an investigation.”

Upon hearing the word ”police,” his body visibly trembled, and the broom in his hand nearly fell to the ground.

He hurriedly put down the tool, wiped the sweat off his forehead with his sleeve, and said with a slightly trembling voice: ”Officer, I’ve been a law-abiding citizen now.”

”Since I got out of prison, I’ve been earning my living by my own hands, never breaking the law again.”

Zhang Chao gave a slight smile, his tone gentle: ”Don’t be nervous!”

”We’re not here to hold you accountable.”

”This time, we’re mainly here to understand the situation of the gun trafficking network you were involved with in the past.”

”Gun trafficking?” The man’s expression instantly became tense.

He waved his hand repeatedly, saying: ”That’s all in the past!”

”I washed my hands of it a long time ago. Now, I’m just a street cleaner, and I have nothing to do with those illegal dealings!”

His speech sped up, with fine beads of sweat appearing on his forehead.

Zhang Chao timely soothed him: ”We fully understand your current situation.”

”It’s clear you’ve truly reformed and are now making an honest living.”

”This time, we’re hoping you can help provide some leads to assist in solving another case.”

Saying this, he handed over a bottle of mineral water, indicating the other to calm down first.

However, the cleaner’s guard was still up. He took a half step back with flickering eyes, speaking in a low voice: ”I really don’t know anything... you better ask someone else...”

As he was about to turn and leave with his tools, Zhang Chao quickly stepped forward, speaking sincerely: ”Please trust us, any clues you provide will be kept strictly confidential.”

”Even if it involves other illegal activities, we guarantee we won’t hold you accountable.”

”If your leads are valuable, we can help you apply for credit score rewards, which will greatly aid in finding work and improving your life.”

This seemed to touch the cleaner’s most sensitive nerve.

Since being released from prison, credit issues had been like an invisible shackle, causing him to run into walls everywhere he went.

To make a living, he had to accept this sun and rain-exposed outdoor job.

If there were a chance to improve his credit situation and find a more respectable job, it would be a dream come true for him.

He slowly turned around, eyes shining with hope: ”Is what you say true?”

”If I cooperate with the investigation, can it really help me find a better job?”

Zhang Chao nodded solemnly: ”We stand by our word.”

”With your current situation, you could definitely work on an electronics assembly line or as a skilled laborer at a construction site.”
