Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1568: Chapter 1568: Simply a Disaster

”Mom, what on earth is going on?” An Hao was also curious.

She found that whenever Wang the Cripple was mentioned, her in-laws’ expressions didn’t seem very pleasant, which meant there must be some unknown past incidents.

”This person is too bad, he’s simply a scourge,” Zhang Yun cursed a few times before giving An Hao a brief rundown of the past.

More than a decade ago, she and Ning Yibin had just arrived in this city, at that time they were strangers in a strange land.

Most of their time was spent in the military, and back then Ning Bo was just a teenager and not well; he spent most of his time in the military district compound. They would find it hard to get a Sunday off to take the kid out for some fun.

In the park, with people coming and going, it was easy to get separated from one another.

Anxiously looking for her son, Zhang Yun got separated from Ning Yibin and they wandered farther apart, not knowing where Ning Bo had gone.

Finally, as it got dark, she found Ning Bo.

He was sitting alone by the roadside, head bent down looking at his feet, silent.

Ning Bo was not a healthy child.

He was born with a heart condition, so he couldn’t do strenuous exercise; a little carelessness could trigger an illness. Seeing her child sitting quietly there, Zhang Yun’s heart clenched in fear that something was wrong with his health.

”Xiaobo?” She tentatively called and approached, gently sitting beside Xiaobo.

Unexpectedly, just as she sat down, a man rushed up from behind, hugged her waist tightly, and began to kiss her face recklessly.

While kissing, the man also called out, ”Jiu Xia... Jiu Xia... After so many years, you still can’t escape the palm of my hand.”

Hearing this, An Hao was stunned too.

She hadn’t expected her mother-in-law to have such a past.

”What happened after that?” An Hao asked nervously.

”Nothing happened afterward, thankfully your dad arrived in time and I’ve also learned a bit of know-how during my military years. So I didn’t suffer. It’s just that I wasn’t able to recall the name Jiu Xia right away when you told me.”

”Who exactly is this Wang the Cripple?” Qin Jian spoke up, ”It seems like there’s quite a story behind this?”

”I don’t know the specifics. But, Wang the Cripple from Nancheng City is somewhat known by the locals. This man is into drinking, prostitution, gambling, drug abuse, the full set of vices! Why do they call him Wang the Cripple? It’s because he gambled and lost, resulting in someone breaking his legs. It is said that in his youth, he gambled away all his family’s wealth. He even gambled away his wife!”

”That’s downright monstrous,” An Hao muttered.

”That’s exactly why, when you bring up Wang the Cripple, the people of Nancheng know who he is. There are many things from the past you youngsters don’t know about. But we are well aware.”

”So it seems we’re on the right track with this clue. However, Mom, do you know if Wang the Cripple is still alive?” Qin Jian inquired. That was the key question.

”I haven’t heard of him dying. You can go investigate.”

”Check the household registration office,” Ning Yibin suggested. ”This kind of person is definitely registered with the public security authorities. He’s also classified as a ’Black Category’ offender; given his infamy in Nancheng City in the past, he should be easy to look up.”

”Alright.” Enlightened by what Ning Yibin had said, Qin Jian realized, ”I know what to do next.”

”Since that’s the case, I’ll leave it to you,” An Hao told Qin Jian.
