Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1560: Chapter 1560: On the Verge of Death

An Ping’s timing was unfortunate.

It was the weekend, and Qin Jian and his wife An Hao accompanied Lin Qiushu to Lai City to search for Jiu Xia.

Thus, he arrived to find the place empty and could only wait for An Hao to return before making any decisions.

Qin Jian, in disguise, sat in the backseat of the car with An Hao, their fingers tightly interlocked as they gazed at the scenery outside the window.

Lin Qiushu was driving in the front, complaining about the difficult road as she went.

”Don’t you know? This area had an earthquake recently, turning it into ruins. If Qin Jian hadn’t come here for earthquake relief, we might have never encountered Jiu Xia. What a twist of fate!” An Hao remarked emotionally.

”I really hope we can get the truth from Jiu Xia this time, so I can reassure my grandmother.” Lin Qiushu said.

”How is the old lady doing?”

”It’s still the same, she might need surgery soon. I’m afraid her body won’t hold up much longer, elderly people have so many ailments.” Lin Qiushu sighed.

”By the way, I think I’ve never met your mother.” An Hao had visited the Lin family’s shop more than once, and it was always either her grandmother or her she met, never her mother.

”Our family has quite a lot of business. My mom manages various businesses all over, she’s a strong woman totally immersed in business,” Lin Qiushd smiled after saying this, ”That Jade Store was merely set up as a spot originally just to find a bracelet. Actually, our real business is pretty big, dealing with clothing, electrical appliances... whatever is in demand. My mom has a good eye for it.”

”That’s really good,” An Hao admired.

”I see you have a knack for business, it seems a bit of a waste for you to study medicine,” Lin Qiushu said with a laugh.

”Perhaps,” An Hao looked up at Qin Jian, leaned her head into his chest and said, ”Actually, I just want to fulfill my desires and ideals.”

Now, she didn’t crave money so much.

All she wanted now was to live a good life with Qin Jian and to achieve her dream of being a surgeon.

”That’s quite similar to my mom. Her generation’s pleasure comes from earning money, not spending it. We’ve asked her why, and she says it’s to fulfill her own desires and ideals.”

”Really? What are her desires?” An Hao asked with a smile.

”To prove to her family that women are not inferior to men,” Lin Qiushu said while giggling, ”We should arrange a meeting between you and my mom someday. You two would definitely get along.”

”Sure,” An Hao laughed.

Before they knew it, they had driven the car to the edge of the village.

After the disaster reconstruction, new houses were built here, strong and attractive with red bricks and green tiles; the roads were straightened, and tender grass started sprouting on both sides of the road, breathing new life into the area.

The car was driven to the entrance of PLA Primary School and could go no further, so they had to leave the car at the entrance of the school.

”Does Jiu Xia’s family live in this village?” Lin Qiushu asked.

Qin Jian stood on a rock and pointed to a mountain not far away, where a house with a red roof was half-way up: ”Do you see that? It’s right there.”

The old lady insisted on not living in the village, so they had no choice but to build a house for her halfway up the mountain.

”Let’s go.” Lin Qiushu took the lead, walking up the mountain.

............

Jiu Xia’s condition was very serious, and she was on her deathbed.

Lin Qiushu and others were fortunate to arrive in time; otherwise, they would have lived with lifelong regrets.
