Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 819: Chapter 819 Complaining Behind Someone’s Back

Cheng Yue’s voice was somewhat low, ”Because... she knew her condition was not optimistic, her mind was like harboring a ticking time bomb, ready to explode at any moment. She didn’t want her family to worry about her. She once said that she wanted her parents to get used to living without her sooner.”

”Condition? Teacher Cheng is sick?” An Hao was surprised; no wonder she always felt that Teacher Cheng had a bit of Lin Daiyu’s shadow.

”Yeah. You could say that,” Cheng Yue didn’t want to spread news of his sister’s illness everywhere, so he simply told An Hao, ”It’s very dangerous, and it could take her life at any moment.”

An Hao was shocked for a long time before she finally murmured, ”I really couldn’t tell, Teacher Cheng is really...”

But An Hao didn’t utter the words ”so pitiful.” It was a person’s destiny and the lifestyle they had chosen; she had no right to pass judgment on someone else’s choices.

”Pitiful, right?” Cheng Yue chuckled, his voice carrying a hint of melancholy.

There was something even more pitiful!

She had always harbored a man in her heart!

That man had been the object of her affection for more than eight years! And all she could do was watch his happiness and love from afar, longing to get close but unable to, unwilling to stay away but resentful.

”Cheng Yue... don’t be too sad,” An Hao didn’t know how to comfort Cheng Yue.

”I’m used to it. It’s nothing,” Cheng Yue composed himself and said, ”An Hao, I still have to ask you to take extra care of my sister.”

”Don’t worry. Teacher Yan will also take good care of her. The medical team’s seniors will look after her too,” An Hao reassured him.

”That’s good. Thank you, An Hao!”

”No need to thank me. That’s it, goodbye!” An Hao hung up the phone.

However, Cheng Yue’s words continued to swirl around in her mind.

She was somewhat puzzled, feeling that something was very strange. Before, Cheng Yu wouldn’t report her safety to the family, so why suddenly start doing it now?

Could it be that Cheng Yu was deliberately trying to get close to her?

Or could it be Qin Jian?

Is that possible?

According to what Cheng Yue said, her life was already hanging by a thread.

Would she still care about anything else?

............

After dinner, An Hao ate till she was very full, her appetite boosted by the day’s fatigue, and finished all the food Qin Jian had brought.

Feeling a bit too full, she then asked Qin Jian to go for a walk with her after dinner.

Not far from the family quarters there was a small grove that was quite cool, where families liked to stroll after dinner in the summertime.

Just as An Hao and Qin Jian began walking towards the grove, a young warrior ran over and took Qin Jian away.

An Hao had no choice but to go in alone.

The military compound was very safe, so she had nothing to worry about.

An Hao, treading along the pebble-paved path into the grove, suddenly heard the intermittent crying of a woman emanating from within.

An Hao stopped in her tracks and then heard a voice speaking, ”Cousin, do you think your wife really can’t stand me and wants me to leave? Cousin, if I leave here I truly have nowhere to go. Once outside the military compound, debt collectors would chase me all over the place, and I’m so young, I don’t want to end up dead under those people’s chaotic knives one day.”

”My wife can be a bit straightforward sometimes and might say a few things you don’t like to hear. But she’s a good person,” replied the voice.

”That’s only in front of you. Behind your back, she doesn’t treat me like that! Cousin, am I really that annoying? Does she just dislike the way I dress? I’ll stop dressing up then!” As she spoke, the woman sobbed even more.
