Zhang Fei - The Abandoned Son

Chapter 562: The Maze Change

In another area, four people were walking together. Their expressions were extremely serious, and they were on high alert, as they could barely see the path ahead of them, rendering even their senses useless.

”Fortunately, you immediately grabbed my hand, Brother Chui. Otherwise, the portal would have separated us, and I would have had a difficult time finding you.” Yuan Luo then turned to the other two people. ”Are you two still feeling nauseous and dizzy, Ru Yanyue and Ying Shanhu?”

”Yes.” Ru Yanyue was the first to answer as she massaged his forehead and head.

”Iʼm fine.” Ying Shanhu then looked around them. ”What exactly is going on here, Chui? Why is the maze challenge this time different from usual? Moreover, the restrictions this time are much stronger than the last, even suppressing our senses.”

”I donʼt have an answer, so we must move forward to figure it out.” Ximen Chuixue immediately took out two black gauntlets and wore them on both hands. ”We shouldnʼt let our guard down, especially since we still donʼt know if any other changes are coming.”

Yuan Luo, Ru Yanyue, and Ying Shanhu also immediately took out their respective weapons.

Two women fought some silver wolf earth-rank beasts, but they were no match for them, and they killed them all quickly.

”Hmm? What is that, Tianʼer?”

Bai Tianʼer raised her eyebrows, glancing at an item that had appeared on top of a pile of beast corpses. She immediately went over there and took it. ”Itʼs an elemental crystal, Zhiqiu.”

”An elemental crystal?” Ye Zhiqiu was surprised to hear that. ”Weʼve challenged this maze several times in the past, but this is the first time weʼve gotten an item from these beasts. Moreover, an elemental crystal is quite expensive, and it can strengthen our elements.”

”Itʼs an ice elemental crystal, so you can have it.” Bai Tianʼer handed it to Ye Zhiqiu, who immediately stored it in her storage ring. ”Iʼm curious about what caused this maze challenge to change so much, but we canʼt do anything but move forward for now, and I hope we can get together with the others soon.”

The two women immediately walked away from the area. ”Do you think the others will be okay?”

”I noticed earlier that Brother Chui is with Yuan Luo, Ru Yanyue, and Ying Shanhu. Zhang Fei is with Xian Xianqin and Yun Xinyue, and Xian Xianwu is with Aunt Changyue. We are in the beginning stage now, so Iʼm sure they havenʼt met those people yet.” Bai Tianʼer then quickened her pace, so Ye Zhiqiu hurriedly followed behind her. ”We donʼt need to worry about them now; we should focus on ourselves since we could meet those evil people anytime.”

.

.

.

”Aunt Changyue, Iʼm worried about Xianqin.”

Xian Changyue then turned to her nephew and saw Xian Xianwuʼs expression filled with worry. However, she was not too surprised by it because he and Xian Xianqin were twins, and they had never been separated before. ”I was worried about her situation myself, but Zhang Fei held her hand before we were sucked into those portals, so I think they should be together now. Furthermore, that kid is not bad, and he has defeated Xiao Fang, so Iʼm confident he can protect your sister.”

”Yeah, youʼre right.” Xian Xianwu replied with a nod. ”Zhang Fei is indeed strong, and he seems to be resourceful, so Xianqin should be fine as long as sheʼs with him. Moreover, they are not alone, and Yun Xinyue is with them. What do you think is the cause of the strange things happening in this challenge?”

Xian Changyue shook her head at him. ”I donʼt know the answer, but I think weʼll find it through the exit, so we should move faster.”

Xian Xianwu nodded and quickly followed his paternal aunt, tightly gripping his iron fan to prepare for any unexpected attacks.

A petite woman sat on a tall manʼs shoulders while supporting her head with her hands, but she kept sighing in annoyance, making the other men beside them confused by her attitude. ”Why do you keep sighing on your own, Xi Xianzi?”

”Arenʼt you annoyed by the changes that have happened here, Long Tian?”

”Naturally, I am annoyed by these unclear changes, but there is nothing we can do to change them, right?” Long Tian then pointed ahead. ”There is only one path ahead of us, so we have no choice but to keep moving forward, and we might be able to meet the members of our races soon.”

Xi Xianzi nodded before speaking again. ”Actually, Iʼm not worried about our members because they can protect themselves, and those evil people will not dare to attack them. However, I am worried about Zhang Fei because he is only accompanied by those two human princesses, and their cultivation has not broken through to the seven divine realms, so he will definitely be in danger if they attack him.”

”Your worries are too much, Xianzi.” Xi Xianzi turned to Zheng Ru, the giant. ”Zhang Fei is not as weak as you think, and he has proven it by defeating Zhou Fang, so I am sure he can protect himself. Those evil people are also separated from their group, and this maze is very confusing, so they wonʼt be able to find him that quickly.”

”Well, thatʼs true.” Xi Xianzi then stretched out her hand forward, and a ball of light immediately floated down the path in front of them, illuminating their path. ”We can follow it, and it will guide us through this dark path.”

*Roar*

In another area, a powerful and overbearing roar of a dragon caused dozens of beasts in front to cower in fear on the ground. A second later, all of them droop motionlessly due to the effect of the roar, but none of them die.

”Prince Long, your roar frightened my Lang, so I hope you donʼt use it too often.” Xian Jinglan said this as she rubbed the brown wolfʼs head to calm him down. ”Moreover, they are just earth-rank beasts, so you donʼt need to intimidate them that much, and you only need to use your dragon aura to stop them.”

”Haha.” Long Chen laughed upon hearing that. ”You donʼt know that some beasts are very stubborn and like to commit suicide by attacking stronger beasts, and I donʼt want to waste my time with them, so I have to do it. Anyway, can you use your abilities to track the others?”

”No.” Xian Jinglan then looked up. ”I donʼt know what happened in this maze challenge, but the restrictions are much stronger than usual, so my abilities are useless here.”

”I see.” Long Chen nodded in understanding and turned to another person. ”What about you, Jin Dabao?”

Jin Dabao replied with a shake of his head. ”Not only are there restrictions above us, but there are also restrictions below us, rendering my ability to track through the ground useless. The only way for us is to follow the path ahead of us, and I hope we will meet those demon races so that I can beat them up.”

”You despise those demon races so much, huh?”

”Isnʼt that obvious?” Jin Dabao then raised the hammer in his hand. ”Those guys killed my brother last time, so I hate them very much. Unfortunately, we canʼt fight inside the tower, so I have to hold back my anger toward them. Now that weʼre here, and thereʼs no prohibition against killing in this place, I will not spare any of them who appear before me.”

Long Chen turned to the female elf, but Xian Jinglan shrugged helplessly. ”Letʼs speed up so we can find members of our races as soon as possible.”

.

.

.

A woman leaned against the wall, her body trembling violently, particularly as the man in front of her continued to stare at her with a lewd expression. ʼUgh! Why is my fate so unlucky? Why did I have to meet this evil demon?ʼ

”Hey! I didnʼt expect you to end up here with us, Bai Shouyi.” The male demon then grabbed her hands and held them above her head. ”I know your parents are under Huangfu Shouʼs control, and I can help you free them. However, I wonʼt do it for free, and you can give your body to me instead.”

”No!” Bai Shouyi shouted as she struggled to free her hands, but the male demon restrained both of them very firmly, and her cultivation was far below him. ”Let me go, Ximen Yan! I will never give my body to a demon like you! I would rather die than do so!”

”Haha.” Ximen Yan laughed softly. ”Do you think you can refuse me?”

Bai Shouyi trembled even more intensely at the thought of himself falling into the hands of a demon. ”Kill me!”

”Master, we have to move now, or they will get ahead of us.”

Ximen Yan immediately turned to his slave with a raised eyebrow, but he then let go of Bai Shouyiʼs hands and led them forward. ”Qian Ying, you must protect Princess Bai for now, and donʼt let her commit suicide, or I will punish you.”

”Yes, Master.” Bai Shouyi shivered due to Qian Yingʼs cold gaze, prompting her to follow behind them immediately.

*Boom*

A huge explosion was heard in another area, but the expression of the man who unleashed the attack was one of utter rage, especially because the tree wall in front of him did not break even though he attacked it with full force. ”Damn it! What actually happened? Why does this maze feel so much more complicated than before?”

A man and a woman behind him could only shake their heads at his attitude. ”Big Brother Tong, thereʼs no point in you being angry like this, as the situation wonʼt change, and we need to move faster. Moreover, Zhang Fei is only with Xian Xianqin and Yun Xinyue now, so this is a good opportunity for us, and we can capture them at once.”

”I agree with Brother Tai, Big Brother. If we waste time like this, we will fall behind the others.” Zhou Meiling joined in. ”The sooner we find them, the better for us, and we can use the two women to force their parents to surrender to us.”

Zhou Tong let out a soft sigh before nodding to them, and he immediately led his two siblings down the dark path ahead. However, a hole suddenly appeared beneath Zhou Meilingʼs feet when she stepped forward, and she immediately fell into it. ”Ahh! Help me, brothers!”

”Meiling!” Zhou Tong and Zhou Tai simultaneously screamed as they tried to save their sister, but the hole swiftly vanished. ”Damn it! The traps in this maze are also disappearing faster than usual!”

”What should we do now?”

”What else?” Zhou Tong immediately walked forward again. ”The trap must have sent Meiling to another area, so we must move quickly to find her. She will be in danger if it sends her to the people of the Huangfu Kingdom, and they will use her to pressure our father.”

Zhou Tai followed his elder brother with a gloomy expression. ”If they really do that, Meiling will definitely die, as our father doesnʼt care about us, and we are just tools to him.”

Zhou Tong chose not to comment on it, especially since he had long been aware of it. ”Move faster!”

.

.

.

Meanwhile, Zhou Meiling fell into a deep hole filled with red water, drenching her body. She looked up, her expression turning serious as she realized the depth of the hole and the flight restrictions in each area of the maze, which prevented her from flying out.

”Since when was there a place like this in the maze? Has this place been here for a long time?” Zhou Meiling immediately stood up and walked toward one of the walls before touching it. ”At least I didnʼt meet those people, so I can rest assured. However, this hole is too deep, and the walls are very slippery.”

Zhou Meiling immediately dried her upper body, enveloped it with Qi, and jumped up. She grabbed two small rocks jutting out of the wall, and her feet stepped on the two rocks below. ”Sigh! This place is really disgusting, so I must start climbing now.”

.

.

.

With worried expressions, two men walked side by side, their sisterʼs condition weighing heavily on their minds. ”Do you think something bad will happen to Shouyi, Big Brother?”

”Why do you think like that?” Bai Chongxi asked his little brother with a frown. ”You should think more positively and pray that nothing bad will happen to her.”

Bai Renfu smiled bitterly in response. ”I donʼt want anything bad to happen to her, but we know that there are many people who are eager to capture us, especially those demon races. If she falls into the hands of Ximen Yan or Ximen Hongwu, Iʼm sure they will use something to control her.”

”Iʼm worried about that too, but we canʼt do anything to help her right now because we donʼt know her current location. We can only try to find her as quickly as possible.” Bai Renfu nodded in agreement to his big brother, but several tree branches suddenly appeared from the two walls beside them. They immediately tied their bodies and pulled them into the wall on each side, causing both of them to disappear from that location instantly.

A while later, Bai Chongxi was already in another area, but several large beasts immediately confronted him. He hurriedly took out his sword to fight them, but their skin was too tough for it to penetrate, so he swiftly fled through the only path behind him. ”This damn maze! Those beasts usually only appear in the inner area, but theyʼre appearing in the outer area now! Tch! I hope Renfu and Meiling can protect themselves until I find them.”

On the other hand, Zhou Tai arrived at a relatively safe place, and he found no signs of other living beings there. However, he didnʼt see any way out of the place, but he found a random arrangement of crystals on the north wall, so he hurried over to it.

”Haish! Iʼm not as smart as my big brother Meiling, and now Iʼm faced with a complicated puzzle.” Since he had no other choice, Bai Renfu started trying to solve the puzzle.

.

.

.

”Why do you keep making a gloomy face, Yueliang?”

Ximen Yueliang repeatedly stomped her feet on the ground. ”Ugh! This maze is so annoying! I was hoping the next challenge would be the survival challenge so we could move to capture Zhang Fei and Xian Xianwu, but this challenge came first.”

”Haha.” Ximen Hongwu laughed upon hearing that. ”Why are you so impatient? Even if we can capture them as quickly as you want, you still canʼt do anything to them as long as weʼre still in the tower, so you should be more patient.”

Ximen Yueliang let out a soft sigh before looking at the four roads in front of them. ”So which path should we choose?”

”I donʼt know, and you can choose whichever path you like.”

”Hmm?” Ximen Yueliang made a thinking posture while considering between the four roads before heading towards the east path. ”Letʼs take this road; I have a feeling that we will meet one of them if we take this road.”

Ximen Hongwu smacked his forehead before following behind his little sister, and he also took out his black scythe to guard against any unfavorable situations.

.

.

.

”Fortunately, you moved quickly to catch us, Big Brother. Otherwise, we would have been separated from each other, and it would not be a favorable situation for us.” Huangfu Xiaofan sighed softly.

Huangfu Lian just nodded and turned to his two sisters. ”Are your tracking artifacts useful for finding the way out?”

”No.” Huangfu Xiaoying and Huangfu Xiaomei answered with shakes of their heads. ”The restrictions are too strong, and our artifacts are useless. Do you think it would be better to split into two groups?”

”Only a fool would split up in a place like this.” Huangfu Lian immediately led them through the twin paths in front of them. ”Letʼs go; our main task for now is to find Xian Xianqin and Yun Xinyue, and we will also capture Zhang Fei, who is with them.”
