I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 385: Chapter 384

Tian Heming saw Beisitian shake her head, and knew it hadn’t worked. Surprisingly, he didn’t feel disappointed or any other emotion.

Tian Hezhen also didn’t feel much. After all, they were prepared for the worst-case scenario. Even if Beisitian couldn’t come up with a solution in the end, given her relationship with the Tian Family, the higher-ups wouldn’t cancel the summons.

Tian Hezhen was being realistic.

The food was quickly reheated, and Dong Fengzhen urged Beisitian to eat while it was hot, casting a warning glance at Tian Heming and Tian Hezhen, indicating that they shouldn’t ask about the illness while Beisitian was eating.

Tian Heming and Tian Hezhen exchanged a glance and obediently kept their mouths shut.

After the meal, Beisitian felt a bit warmer; when her stomach was empty, she felt colder than usual.

”Beibei will stay here tonight; it’s too late for you to leave and I’d be worried,” Dong Fengzhen said.

Beisitian smiled and nodded, ”I’ll listen to Grandma.”

Dong Fengzhen laughed at that, pleased with her obedient granddaughter who was better behaved than any other grandchildren despite not being cutesy.

Beisitian wasn’t sure which medicinal ingredient she was missing, so she couldn’t discuss it with Tian Heming and the others. Naturally, Tian Heming didn’t inquire further, as he didn’t know much about the Mystic Doctor matters anyway.

It was only a little after 8:00 p.m., far from bedtime. Beisitian sat in the living room, quietly entranced by the bright moonlight outside.

From time to time, she pondered the missing ingredient, and other times she let her mind go blank.

At this moment, Tian Zhi walked in through the archway, glanced at Beisitian’s room, then walked over to knock on the door.

Shortly after, the door opened. Seeing his cousin startle at his presence, he gave a wry smile, ”It was my dad who asked me to come.”

This kid was indeed honest.

”Come in,” Beisitian invited him in and then closed the door.

Tian Zhi sat down and said, ”My dad said if it’s too difficult, just let it go for now.”

Tian Zhi didn’t want to disturb Beisitian so late, but Tian Qingyao was right: rather than letting Beisitian dwell on these issues, maybe changing her focus could lead to a solution.

”Cousin, what’s troubling you? Why don’t you tell me, and I’ll think about it with you?” Tian Zhi said.

Not even Tian Heming dared to say such words. It was only because Tian Zhi understood nothing that he could utter such ’overconfident’ words.

Beisitian laughed, agreed, and then said, ”What if, during the process of detoxifying someone, you find that although the poison is removed, they’ve fallen victim to your poison instead. What should you do then?”

Tian Zhi scratched his head. It wasn’t about curing illness but detoxifying poison, she said. ”You mean using poison to counteract poison didn’t work?”

Beisitian shook her head, ”It’s not using poison against poison, but rather while using my medicine to detoxify, a more lethal toxin was generated.”

Tian Zhi was at a loss; this wasn’t something he could answer. Seeing Beisitian fall back into contemplation, he remained silent.

Though this cousin was only a few years older than him, it felt like she was on a much higher level. She was exposed to things he hadn’t even heard of.

Recently, Tian Zhi had combed through many ancient texts about ’Mystic Doctor’ and ’talismanic water’, but, unfortunately, none of them contained any records about this.

If it weren’t for the attitudes of his grandparents and uncle, he’d have definitely thought Beisitian was a fraud.

Since drinking Beisitian’s talismanic water, Tian Zhi became particularly interested in the Mystic Doctor and talismanic water. But when he asked Beisitian about it, she stayed silent, only promising to teach him if she ever accepted him as a disciple.

Now, Tian Zhi was indeed thinking of becoming a disciple, but with Beisitian’s indication that she’d observe for a while, he regretted not becoming a disciple directly from the beginning, feeling he might have missed a good opportunity.

”Sorry, I zoned out,” Beisitian apologized after coming back to her senses, feeling it was rather rude to drift off during a conversation.

”Cousin, there’s no need to apologize; I’m the one disturbing you,” Tian Zhi laughed.

”By the way, cousin, are you in Anding City?” Tian Zhi suddenly asked.

Beisitian nodded.

”I didn’t come home last Chinese New Year because I participated in a medical exchange about Chinese medicine. Although it’s an exchange, there are also competitions between the schools. This time it’s other schools coming to ours, and after school starts, we’ll go to the other schools, which happen to be in Anding City,” Tian Zhi explained in detail.

Beisitian smiled, ”That’s nice; when Xiao Zhi comes to Anding City, let me know, and I’ll come to pick you up.”

Tian Zhi shook his head, ”No need, it’s organized by the school. Except for free time every day, we have to act together. I mean, if I encounter problems, can I ask you for help, cousin?”

He could see Beisitian was very skilled. But would she be busy when she returned since she was a military doctor?

”Of course, feel free to find me,” Beisitian nodded.

After chatting for a while, Tian Zhi eventually left.

Beisitian didn’t continue to ponder but returned to her room to sleep.

Early the next morning, Beisitian exercised a bit in the courtyard, then had breakfast with the old Tian couple before preparing to go out for a walk.

The lack of ingredients wasn’t due to a weak foundation; it was more that she felt trapped in a dead-end and needed to find another way out. Staying cooped up in the room wasn’t feasible.

Beisitian decided to return to her small courtyard and tidy up for a bit, as she planned to stay at the Tian house for a few days.

By car, the journey would take about fifteen minutes. It wasn’t far; walking through the alleys would take about half an hour. She decided to walk back to see the old Beijing scenery.

After stepping out of the Tian family gate and turning a corner, she immediately recognized a familiar face—it was Wei Zhongxun.

Meeting Wei Zhongxun here, Beisitian didn’t think it was a coincidence.

”Hey! Isn’t this Mrs. Luo? How come you’re here?” Wei Zhongxun seemed pleasantly surprised to see Beisitian.

Beisitian smiled faintly, ”Ah, Mr. Wei, I’m visiting relatives.”

Visiting relatives? Wei Zhongxun was taken aback. He watched as Beisitian walked out of the Tian house and wondered if she could be that mysterious Mystic Doctor.

”Aren’t you just here from out of town? How do you have relatives here?” Wei Zhongxun feigned curiosity as he asked.

”Yes, my grandfather’s family is in Beijing. Since it’s the New Year, of course, I’m visiting,” Beisitian didn’t hide anything. Such a thing could be easily checked. The day Tian Heming stood at the gate with his family awaiting them, all the neighbors saw it.

Wei Zhongxun’s heart sank. If Beisitian’s grandfather was indeed from the Tian family, then she was unlikely to be that mysterious Mystic Doctor. After all, if the Tian family had such a capable granddaughter, would their illness have taken two years to heal?
