I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 362: Chapter 361: A Better Candidate

At first, their thoughts were similar to Lei Yehong’s; with Beisitian, the granddaughter, coming back, the Tian Family didn’t make a fuss at all. Even during such a special time, it seemed they should at least have a meal together. But Beisitian had been back for quite a while, and today was the first day they saw her.

This indicated that the elderly couple of the Tian Family might not actually value this granddaughter that much. After all, a granddaughter is not the same as a daughter, and moreover, this granddaughter is the child of their daughter but also the child of the man they hate. So no one really knows what they feel about Beisitian.

As for the old man of the Tian Family saying he went out of town for the granddaughter, it’s a tumultuous time, and if he wants to leave Beijing, wouldn’t he need a reason?

Though everyone thought this way, nobody was foolish enough to say it out loud. However, today it seemed it wasn’t quite like what they thought, leaving them all a bit confused.

Su Lan lowered her head while cutting vegetables, her mind occupied with thoughts. She didn’t mention Beisitian giving her a small jar of medicine, nor did she talk about the strange attitude of the elderly couple and the eldest, Tian Qinghui, towards this medicine.

But without a doubt, Su Lan was certain that Beisitian’s situation in this family wasn’t what they initially thought.

The four daughters-in-law worked together, and soon the meal was ready, filled with delicious, aromatic dishes, all served on two tables, with various cold dishes and soups making them fully laden.

The Tian Family’s feast usually involved two tables: one for the elderly couple and their five sons, and another for Tian Jun’s generation.

At the large table, including the elderly couple, there were eleven people. The fifth son, Tian Qingyao, stayed at the rest home and didn’t return, while Tian Hezhen from the collateral lineage didn’t attend the family feast.

The smaller table had seven people in total: Tian Jun, Tian Qiu, Tian Lei, Tian Ying, Tian Zhi, and Tian Hao.

Last time Beisitian came, she didn’t see Tian Ying and Tian Zhi. Tian Ying was at her house, and word had it that Tian Zhi went to a medical exchange at school, leaving right after New Year’s Day and had just returned.

Seeing so many people, Beisitian smiled; it truly was a big family.

Beneath the five uncles were six children. She had just learned that Tian Zhi and Tian Hao were brothers, though they were quite apart in age.

At the table, Tian Ying’s large eyes were sizing up Beisitian.

Tian Ying was fair and tender, with big, expressive eyes, but unfortunately single-lidded. Some people look good with single eyelids, but in Tian Ying’s case, it made her face seem a bit plain and harsh. Yet, being fair-skinned covered most flaws, making Tian Ying appear quite lovely.

Tian Ying was three years older than Beisitian, making her the only girl in the Tian Family close to Beisitian’s age. However, judging by her scrutinizing look, friendliness didn’t seem to be her intention.

Beisitian took only a glance at Tian Ying and then shifted her attention to Tian Zhi.

Tian Zhi was a junior this year, having skipped two grades in between, and had just turned nineteen, two years younger than Beisitian.

Tian Zhi was a refined young man, not exceptionally handsome, but he naturally invoked a sense of goodwill.

The most notable thing was that Tian Zhi’s spirit was even more vibrant than Tian Hao’s!

Without a doubt, Beisitian believed that in a few years, Tian Zhi would be qualified to become a Mystic Doctor!

Of course, qualification in spirit alone doesn’t make him a Mystic Doctor; his foundation in traditional Chinese medicine is still quite shallow and might take a long period of maturation. This is why, in her previous life, many became Mystic Doctors in their thirties, and even more by their forties.

This elevated the overall age of Mystic Doctors. In many people’s minds, Mystic Doctors are elderly with white hair and an ethereal aura.

Beisitian was somewhat exceptional; discovered by her master at twenty, she trained for ten years and officially became a Mystic Doctor at thirty, making her quite talented among them.

Perhaps Beisitian’s gaze was too direct, as Tian Zhi, being stared at by his exquisite-looking cousin, had his face turn involuntarily red and slightly awkward, pretending not to notice her gaze and focusing on his drink.

Sitting beside Tian Zhi, Tian Ying furrowed her brow and asked, ”Sitiang Cousin is looking at my brother?”

With Tian Ying bringing it up in front of everyone, Tian Zhi frowned. Originally, they were all curious about each other, but phrased this way, the meaning changed.

Beisitian regained her senses, looked at Tian Ying, smiled faintly, and nodded, ”Yes.”

Tian Zhi: ”...”

Unexpectedly, she admitted it so straightforwardly. This kind of leading remark could actually be answered so directly, making Tian Ying appear suspicious in her intentions.

Tian Ying was undeterred, smiling, ”My brother is quite handsome, isn’t he?”

Tian Zhi shot Tian Ying a glance and said, ”Fourth Sister, what are you trying to say?”

Tian Ying, dissatisfied with his interruption, complained, ”Nothing really. Sitiang Cousin comes from the countryside, so it’s normal not to see so many handsome guys and pretty girls. I saw her looking at you, so I curiously asked.”

The words carried ambiguous implications.

Tian Zhi suppressed his irritation and replied sternly, ”She is my cousin!”

Tian Ying innocently retorted, ”So what if she’s the cousin?”

Tian Zhi frowned, looking at her speechlessly.

Tian Qiu leaned his arm on the table, rested his chin on his hand, and looked at Tian Ying with a grin, ”Little Sis, how many boyfriends have you changed this week?”

She mimicked a Northeast accent, because Tian Ying’s current boyfriend was from the Northeast. However, her imitation fell flat, lacking the humor of an authentic Northeast accent.

Tian Ying’s face turned sour as she glared at Tian Qiu.

”Why do you have your eyes open wide like that, are you going to eat me? You keep changing boyfriends like that; you must have a mental issue. Is that why you see abnormal relationships in everyone?”

Tian Ying’s face went pale and flushed, speechless under Tian Qiu’s remarks. She hadn’t offended her; why was she jumping into the fray!

Tian Lei quietly watched Second Sister Tian Qiu from the side. Indeed, it was like two swords joining forces, but why wasn’t Beibei speaking; weren’t they usually a great team?

Currently, Beisitian wasn’t paying any attention to Tian Ying, instead focusing on Tian Zhi. Previously, Tian Hao already caught her interest, and now, Tian Zhi intrigued her even more.

Although her current physical age was twenty-one, considering her actual experience, she was already qualified to take on a disciple. In her last life, she didn’t have one, perhaps because she searched throughout Jiangnan without finding a suitable candidate, possibly due to her high standards.

Even if Tian Zhi were to fit into her previous life, while he might not qualify as a successor, he was more than enough to be a disciple.

Taking on a disciple is no small matter for a Mystic Doctor, but she felt personally teaching Tian Zhi would speed up his growth, leaving her somewhat hesitant.
