I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 361: Chapter 360: Family Banquet

Beisitian really prepared talismanic water for Tian Qiu and Tian Lei, all of which are to replenish qi and blood and strengthen the body. It’s generally very effective when first taken. She initially planned to have Tian Qiu bring it over when she returned. After all, she couldn’t fit so much in her bag, but unexpectedly, several aunts were coming in the evening.

Excluding Lei Yehong, who didn’t need to be considered, since she gave a gift to the third aunt Su Lan, naturally, she also needed to give gifts to the other aunts.

The Tian Family is large and prosperous; in terms of heritage, she couldn’t possibly compare. The only thing she could offer was the talismanic water.

But she didn’t have small jars at the moment. Was she supposed to use water cups?

Beisitian smiled wryly. She didn’t know today was the day of the Tian Family’s family feast, and everyone was supposed to come back for dinner, including Lei Yehong, who had just been driven away. She would be back for dinner too.

If she had known in advance, she would have taken those small jars. Now, there were only two options: either go back to get them or ask Dong Fengzhen if she had something similar, while she was making talismans.

The reason Beisitian planned to give talismanic water to everyone was not only that Tian Heming and Dong Fengzhen treated her well, but also because the Tian Family is one of the last remaining ancient Chinese medicine families, which is very important to her.

When Beisitian asked Dong Fengzhen, Dong Fengzhen held her hand and said earnestly, ”Beibei, you don’t have to give them such a precious gift. I’ve heard that talisman making is very mentally taxing!”

Beisitian laughed, ”It’s all just some nourishing talismanic water, it won’t be exhausting. Rest assured.”

Dong Fengzhen didn’t believe her. She had heard that mystic doctor talisman making was very draining on the spirit, requiring a period of rest after each making, along with many spirit-nourishing herbs, which is why the talismanic water was so precious.

Now Beisitian seemed to be giving it away without a care or concern, offering everyone a bottle. What an act of generosity!

Seeing Beisitian insist on the small jars, Dong Fengzhen had to let Tian Lei look for some. These small jars are easy to find, not only used in rural areas. Many people here use them as they’re small, convenient for storing things, have lids, and more importantly, are quite cheap.

Though these small jars were handy, using them for talismanic water was truly crude, completely unworthy of the contents!

Dong Fengzhen scoffed at the idea of using these small jars. Thinking of talismanic water contained within them felt like a waste, so she had an idea and asked, ”Are you really going to use these small jars, Beibei?”

”Storing talismanic water in porcelain jars is more suitable than in glass containers,” Beisitian said.

Dong Fengzhen nodded, ”Then let’s have a batch specially made at a factory just for talismanic water.”

Beisitian’s eyes lit up, ”Great idea, Grandma, that’s a great suggestion.”

Having gained her approval, Dong Fengzhen was also very pleased.

Beisitian requested a quiet room, preparing to make talismans one by one. When she finished, Tian Lei had already brought back the small jars.

These small jars were worthless, costing only a few cents each. Due to their small size and narrow opening, many households used them to store sesame oil or cooking oil, making it easy to pour without spilling too much.

Most were supposed to return for the family feast. However, given the special circumstances, Tian Guangyao and Tian Hezhen still had to stay at the sanatorium; it couldn’t be left unattended.

Tian Qinghui naturally was coming back. The eldest son of this generation and the eldest grandson of the next had to be present.

Lei Yehong also returned. As she had displeased the old lady, she conscientiously went to the kitchen to help, almost shocking those working there.

Tian Qinghui’s wife, Gao Ya, was cutting vegetables in the kitchen. Seeing Lei Yehong wandering around as if looking for something to do, she couldn’t help but look toward Su Lan, questioning the reason with her eyes.

Su Lan pursed her lips with a knowing smile.

Gao Ya was a bit surprised. Was it possible the old lady scolded her?

This was rare. In all these years, the old lady hadn’t spoken much against Lei Yehong. Was the sun rising from the west today?

With Lei Yehong wandering nearby, Gao Ya didn’t dare ask openly and could only wait for her to leave.

The second aunt Feng Yue disliked Lei Yehong the most. She cast a cold glance and said, ”Yehong, go take a break. There’s no room in the kitchen.”

She had never entered the kitchen, and suddenly she was in here wandering. Naturally, there wasn’t any place for her!

Lei Yehong walked around but found nothing to do; everything was shared by the in-laws. So she reasonably thought she wasn’t required to do anything and, given Feng Yue’s words, she left as expected. Who cared if it was sarcastic; you asked me to leave.

The fifth aunt Shao Jia Min was plucking vegetables while glancing at Lei Yehong’s departing figure, rolling her eyes. Her thick-skinned nature was remarkable. How had such an honest fourth brother found such a wife, giving him no face outside?

Eldest sister-in-law Gao Ya leaned closer to Su Lan. She had always been on good terms with Su Lan, the third sister-in-law, and quietly asked what was going on.

Su Lan tilted her head to look out through the kitchen door, seeing that Lei Yehong had already entered the north room, probably engrossed in watching TV, and then began to tell Gao Ya today’s story with a laugh.

The second sister-in-law Feng Yue and the fifth sister-in-law Shao Jia Min pricked up their ears, each surprised to hear that she was even dismissed by the old lady once.

With some gossip, the ladies had fewer reservations. They quietly chatted away, each chipping in.

Yet none expected that the old lady would rebuke Lei Yehong for the sake of her grandniece Beisitian.

They were well aware of the past incident. After giving birth to her daughter back then, Lei Yehong had always wanted a son. Although the one-child policy was in place now, the Tian Family had special privileges. If there really were a second child, they could just pay the fine and get household registration, like the fifth family with two sons now.

But with the unrest at home at that time, even not as serious as the current one, quite a few people seized the opportunity to oppress them. If they had a second child, they would definitely get caught up in trouble. The fourth family could only temporarily give up on the idea, intending to wait for the turmoil to pass.

This wait turned into several years, followed by the death news of Tian Meijun, almost overwhelming the old lady, who needed to be cared for round-the-clock by her children and daughters-in-law, thus delaying Lei Yehong’s second child plans.

Naturally, she blamed the old lady, who later felt guilty toward her fourth daughter-in-law, so she became more tolerant, thinking, among five daughters-in-law, one less in the kitchen was still fine. Thus, Lei Yehong rarely entered the kitchen.

Moreover, she could coax her fourth son Tian Qingjun, who would always speak well of her in front of his mother. Thus, the old lady overlooked many things, and gradually, Lei Yehong became carefree.

One could say that Lei Yehong’s current attitude was entirely cultivated by the old lady and the fourth son Tian Qingjun.

To their surprise, today, the old lady rebuked Lei Yehong for Beisitian’s sake, likely due to the late Tian Meijun, as the old lady had been heartbroken back then.
