I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 328: Chapter 327: Recognizing You May Not Be a Good Thing

The Tian Family also has businesses in Anding City, including a traditional Chinese medicine company. It’s not a joint-stock company but rather individually operated, managed by a relative. However, the real authority still lies with the Tian Family itself, and every year, they have to pay a significant portion of the profits to the Tian Family.

Nowadays, those who can operate individually are generally well-connected, unlike later when having registered capital and complete documents is sufficient to start a business.

This is one of the privileges granted to the Tian Family by the state.

Originally, Song Fanggang intended to arrange a military supply office specifically to entertain veteran cadres for Tian Heming, but since the Tian Family has its own business, there is naturally someone to arrange these things, so it was tactfully declined.

Beisitian and Luo Xudong arrived at a place in the city, facing north with a small two-story building facing south. From the second-floor balcony, one can open the window and see Century Square. The location is very desirable, and it’s clear that the Tian Family’s local management has put in significant effort.

When they arrived, Tian Lei and Tian Qiu were already waiting outside.

”Beibei, you’re so slow!” Tian Lei complained, but his face broke into a wide grin.

Luo Xudong heard the name and looked towards Tian Lei. Tian Lei also looked at him, his eyes full of triumph, as if saying, now I’m calling this name openly, what can you do?

Luo Xudong couldn’t bear to look directly at that foolish face; how come he hadn’t noticed this brother-in-law’s silliness before?

Tian Qiu glanced at Tian Lei’s foolish demeanor and felt like giving him a slap, but considering the presence of her brother-in-law, she held back.

Only a young brother-in-law would joke around with a brother-in-law; there’s no precedent for an older brother-in-law to joke around with a younger one!

Though Luo Xudong is older than Tian Lei, it should be calculated starting from Beisitian.

The Tian siblings welcomed them in, where Tian Heming was sitting in the ground floor lobby, savoring light tea. Upon seeing them enter, a natural smile appeared on his face, ”Come, sit down.”

As Tian Heming carefully looked at Beisitian, he couldn’t help but feel emotional. Last night, upon returning, he lay awake all night, seeing Beisitian reminded him of his younger daughter. Grief surged within him, and he shed a few donkey dung tears—lucky it was just him, or else he’d become a laughingstock.

”Thank you, Grandpa, for getting me out of trouble.” Beisitian smiled gently, showing no signs of discomfort, while Tian Lei sat aside not daring to breathe, forming a stark contrast with Tian Qiu and Beisitian.

What Tian Lei feared most in his life was this grandfather.

”Alright, alright. What’s with all the thank-yous? Your name is Beisitian, isn’t it?”

”Yes, it is.”

Tian Heming sighed, Sitiang, Sitian, huh! Always playing with these tricks. If it weren’t for that boy, his daughter wouldn’t have gone far away and ended up dying in a foreign land!

Tian Heming couldn’t bring himself to like Beisitian’s father. Had it not been for that kid enticing his daughter, she wouldn’t have made such a foolish decision, sacrificing her entire life. And what happened afterward? Heard that kid even married someone else!

A stepmother being nine parts bad, and the remaining one is probably no better. Heard from the eldest son that when young, this granddaughter suffered much mistreatment from the stepmother and was eventually sold. Lucky she met a couple who understood, but they faced unending disasters, and this granddaughter suffered alongside, never having a good day in life. It’s only the past two years that things have improved.

Whenever this comes to mind, Tian Heming feels uneasy and wants to compensate Beisitian as much as possible.

”Here, Beibei, this is your gift from Grandpa.” Tian Heming had been hearing the old woman mutter ’Beibei’ lately, unconsciously following suit.

He originally didn’t want to call her by that name since it carried that boy’s surname. But calling her ’Tian Tian’ seemed somewhat inappropriate, as she was already in her twenties. Calling her Sitiang seemed too formal...

The venerable old man of the Tian Family had struggled over the naming for quite some time, and now, calling her as such, it was settled.

Next to him, Tian Lei’s eyes gleamed, quietly laughing to himself; it was he who kept calling her this around grandma, unknowingly influencing grandpa as well.

Upon seeing the steel pen in Tian Heming’s hand, with a forceful ’Tian’ inscribed on it, Beisitian understood it bore the same implication as the pen grandpa had gifted him. She accepted it, gracefully saying, ”Thank you, Grandpa.”

Tian Heming, filled with delight, heard this.

Tian Qiu couldn’t help but say, ”Little Wu, don’t be too happy too soon. Do you know what this pen represents?”

Little Wu...what’s this?

”Cousin, please explain.” Though Beisitian had an inkling, it was not as clear as the other side’s explanation.

”This pen carries many privileges. The person possessing it can obtain medicine for free in all Tian Family stores; among direct relatives, you can mobilize anyone below your rank to serve you, but only proper service, and among collateral relatives, you have even more freedom. Sounds tempting, doesn’t it? But being acknowledged by the old man might not be beneficial for you!”

Tian Lei, unmoving as a bell, had his eyes alert, glancing at the old man. Seeing no change nor blame for the second sister’s words, he breathed a sigh of relief; this indicated that the old man was in a good mood today, emboldening him.

Tian Qiu explained the situation to Beisitian, echoing much of what Luo Xudong had said. This time, the Tian Family is fighting with their backs against the wall; at worst, they maintain the status quo. If they fail and aren’t able to save anyone, the Tian Family is likely done for, and recovery will be out of reach.

The state won’t kick them while they’re down, but rivals surely will. The faster the Tian Family rose, the quicker they will fall.

After all, the Tian Family is the solely recruited traditional medicine family, normally courted by others, but when in distress, who wouldn’t want to step on them to rise up? In case anyone gets the chance to become a recruit subject?

Sipping tea, Tian Heming was noncommittal to Tian Qiu’s comments; if not for this reason, they would have acknowledged Beisitian long ago.

”I can’t understand why General Zhou is so gravely ill, yet only the Zhou Family is assisting?” Beisitian had always found this puzzling.

Tian Qiu shrugged, ”Who has the Tian Family always been responsible for General Zhou’s health? In fact, doctors from all quarters have come, couldn’t find a solution, and left this trouble to the Tian Family.”

Someone must bear the responsibility, and since the Tian Family had always been tending to General Zhou, they were most fitting for it.

Beisitian didn’t quite grasp the intricacies, limited as she was by her exposure, hence she didn’t inquire further.

”Grandpa, could you take me to see General Zhou’s condition if there’s a chance?” Beisitian asked.

Tian Heming observed Beisitian’s expression closely. Hearing the word ’Grandpa’ and seeing her not showing any signs of panic or regret, he was reassured of her good character!

The Tian Family has deep roots. Even if everyone joins in striking against them, they won’t collapse and remain standing; only the current splendor will fade.
