I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 308: Chapter 307: A Visit

In Li Ying’s view, there’s nothing to be emotional about, but she never speaks sarcastically.

”Grandpa Sun must have been very handsome when he was young, and of course, he’s still very handsome now, a handsome grandpa!~” Li Ying said coquettishly.

Sun Guicai was amused by Li Ying and laughed heartily.

”By the way, Grandpa Sun, do you know Commander Wu?” Li Ying asked, feigning curiosity.

”I know him, why did you suddenly think of the commander?”

”Not suddenly, I bumped into him in the cafeteria today. He’s quite dignified, but of course, not as dignified as you, Grandpa~” Li Ying smiled mischievously, steering the conversation toward Wu Yuekai.

”Commander Wu is here?” Sun Guicai was surprised, wasn’t he supposed to skip the checkup this time?

”Grandpa Sun doesn’t know yet, but I heard he arrived this morning, had his checkup at the health team, and then went to the cafeteria for a meal. I happened to meet him there, and I saw Director Sun from the health team accompanying him.”

”Ah, Sun Wangnian, the old commander saved him before, so it’s understandable he accompanies him.” Sun Guicai nodded.

”Grandpa Sun, do you know the old commander too?” Li Ying asked.

”I do. He’s quite a legendary figure.” Sun Guicai spoke somewhat absent-mindedly, unaware Wu Yuekai was coming; otherwise, he would have waited to have the checkup together with him.

But it’s not too late now. They’ve crossed paths a few times before during previous checkups, and he felt he should take this opportunity to visit.

”What kind of legendary figure is he? Nannan always hears people talk about the old commander but never knows his stories. Grandpa Sun, could you tell me about them if you have time?” Li Ying noticed Sun Guicai’s absent-mindedness.

”Sure.” Sun Guicai stood up.

Li Ying quickly went to help him up, her face showing a longing expression, ”Such seniors, if only I had the chance to meet them up close, it would be really prestigious~”

Sun Guicai saw the girl’s admiration and shook his head with a smile.

Li Ying noticed Sun Guicai didn’t intend to take her along, and she secretly bit her lip, pouting and shaking Sun Guicai’s arm.

”Grandpa Sun, since you are familiar with the old commander, could you take me to see him? I’ll just watch quietly from behind and not say a word. I really admire heroes! How about it~”

Sun Guicai couldn’t resist Li Ying’s coaxing and pleading, especially when she said ’you are familiar’. It added a touch of pride to his face, and he repeatedly agreed, ”Alright, alright, Grandpa will go see the old commander in the afternoon, and Nannan can come along, but be careful with your words and actions. That old commander might seem approachable, but he’s tough to converse with!”

Li Ying was thrilled with Sun Guicai’s promise, ”I understand, Grandpa Sun, I promise to behave~”

Sun Guicai nodded in satisfaction, bringing along this child also felt like fulfilling some goodwill towards his old comrade.

After retiring, many previous connections become less useful. It’s all the more important to maintain these relationships. If he could speak with the commander, it would be excellent because then, even in retirement, no one would dare to flaunt themselves before him.

Sun Guicai, having no authority in hand, felt this most deeply after retiring, so he would never let go of the opportunity to connect.

Sun Guicai made some preparations to prevent going empty-handed. He took along the premium Longjing tea he brought this time, knowing Wu Yuekai appreciates good tea and wine.

The military treats retired veterans well, providing many benefits, and there’s a special place for their checkups and receptions.

Though Wu Yuekai’s case was special, his residence was a separate small courtyard, much better than the dormitory accommodations.

Yet, even the dormitory was specifically prepared for them, complete with entertainment facilities inside.

When Sun Guicai arrived, Song Fanggang, the military advisor of the 119th Division, happened to leave.

Being the advisor of the 119th Division, Song Fanggang in his fifties still actively visits Wu Yuekai, attesting to Wu Yuekai’s current influence!

Arriving nearby, Sun Guicai was blocked by two officers. Elsewhere, Sun Guicai might rely on being a veteran, but not here.

Li Ying supported Sun Guicai and dared not speak.

”Comrades, I’m the old man Sun Guicai, who has interacted with Military Advisor Wu a few times before. Upon hearing his arrival, I specifically came to visit.” Sun Guicai said cheerfully.

The two officers nodded to each other and said courteously, ”Please wait a moment, I’ll ask the old commander.”

”Alright, I’ll wait here.” Sun Guicai replied with a smile.

The officer was back shortly, smiling and inviting them inside.

Li Ying’s eyes lit up, not expecting it to go so smoothly.

Sun Guicai was pleased too; he wasn’t seeking anything, just wanted to be familiar for future interactions with Wu Yuekai, thus maintaining confidence.

The small courtyard wasn’t big, already late December, and barren inside, yet it was impeccably clean.

Walking inside, Sun Guicai saw Wu Yuekai drinking water through the glass window.

”Military Advisor Wu, long time no see.” Sun Guicai entered the room with a chuckle, with Li Ying sensibly closing the door behind him.

”Ah, it’s Brother Sun, please have a seat.” Wu Yuekai didn’t rise but smiled warmly.

Sun Guicai naturally didn’t mind; they hadn’t had much interaction before, so being able to meet was already quite good.

He hurried his visit because he knew Wu Yuekai to be extremely busy, fearing if he might leave suddenly, he’d miss the chance.

Sun Guicai promptly sat on the single sofa beside the coffee table, while Li Ying stood obediently behind him, curiously observing Wu Yuekai from time to time.

”I heard the military advisor loves tea, so I brought some Longjing, hoping you won’t mind, Brother.” Sun Guicai didn’t elaborate on the tea. Wu Yuekai, being fond of tea, naturally had all sorts of fine teas daily, even though his was good, it wasn’t rare, saying too much seemed unsophisticated.

”Thanks a lot, Brother Sun.” Wu Yuekai’s smile didn’t fade, his gaze barely lingering on the tea.

Li Xuejun brought the brewed tea to Sun Guicai, who then realized only his was tea, while Wu Yuekai was drinking clear water?

He showed a trace of puzzlement, having heard Wu Yuekai drinks tea daily, and hasn’t touched clear water for years.

Seeing Sun Guicai’s confused expression, Wu Yuekai chuckled, ”Been taking medicine lately, so my kid won’t let me have tea, over-controlling me, it’s driving me crazy.”

Sun Guicai chuckled alongside, Wu Yuekai’s expression didn’t seem about over-control, but rather, pleasantly happy, perhaps wishing for more control.

Li Ying, observing, felt slightly envious. Wu Yuekai’s child might be similar to her, surely not worrying about their prospects and marriage with such a senior.
