I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 301: Chapter 300: Pulling Strings for Privileges

Not to acknowledge her?

Beisitian listened quietly, waiting for Luo Xudong to continue, but seeing him start to clean up the dishes, she couldn’t help standing up, ”You haven’t finished yet, why not acknowledge?”

Luo Xudong paused for a moment, continued walking to the kitchen, and spoke while walking, ”I’m not sure if I should tell you.”

Watching Luo Xudong enter the kitchen, Beisitian felt a bit angry. What was wrong with these people, speaking only halfway and stopping? Isn’t that infuriating!

Luo Xudong knew the reason, and that the Tian Family had their reasons for acting this way, and it was for Beisitian’s good. He naturally couldn’t say more about it, as the reasons shouldn’t be revealed by him.

If one day the Tian Family really decided to tell Beisitian and acknowledge her, and Beisitian made up her mind, he would naturally fully support her. For now, it’s better to let her live peacefully.

Being with Beisitian brought a kind of tranquility that he longed for. It was she who made his heart feel stable.

Beisitian understood that Luo Xudong must have his reasons for doing this, but leaving things half-said made her feel a restless irritation, like a cat scratching inside her heart, and she couldn’t help but sulk.

The most severe consequence of angering your wife is that you can only look but not touch.

Luo Xudong felt bitter and could only quietly hold his wife to sleep, enduring the torment of that night, as can be imagined.

The next day, Beisitian got up early and went to the health team. As soon as she arrived, Tao Tao told her that the temporarily seconded doctors had already arrived and were assigned to the fourth and fifth consultation rooms. They would wait in the various health check rooms once the health examinations began.

Because everything had been instrumented, each examination room was equipped with corresponding medical equipment, which needed operators. All the health team members, including the seconded doctors, had to operate these machines and record data.

The four medical assistants were also assigned corresponding tasks. The four of them were entirely mechanized, only needing to operate the machines and record data, basically without difficulty.

The seconded doctors included two women and one man, all over forty and had been to the 119th Division’s health team before, so they were not at all unfamiliar with the place.

They greeted Beisitian amicably and then got ready to take their positions. The health examination only took place in the morning; in the afternoon, data collection and analysis so time was tight. By past six o’clock, all the doctors were at their posts, and by past seven, the health checks began.

Although veteran officials generally wouldn’t arrive so early, they had to be on duty at this time according to regulations.

Being assigned to different examination rooms meant there was little exchange among them, and if they wanted to talk, they had to step outside. In this special period, it was still better to speak less and do more.

By around eight o’clock, veteran officials started arriving one after another, taking their health check forms from Tao Tao at the door and then gradually proceeding with the examinations.

Because blood had to be drawn, they couldn’t eat or drink in the morning. Usually, veteran officials would first go for blood drawing, and after that, the health team would provide breakfast transported from the canteen before proceeding with further examinations.

Blood drawing was routine for the nurses. The first two veteran officials had already finished breakfast, and the third one appeared at the health team entrance.

These veteran officials all knew each other and exchanged pleasantries before going to other examination rooms to check their bodies.

An annual health check was a military benefit. As they aged, they had many issues, and even though many couldn’t be detected during the examination, some problems could still be found.

Luo Jiali and Tian Lei were in charge of measuring height, weight, and blood pressure, while Ding Sisi had a more relaxed task, having said several good words to be assigned to assist Zhang Meili, mostly just watching.

Beisitian wanted to learn about using modern medical equipment, so she wanted to follow Shen Junping, but he was in the X-ray examination room.

”Follow Sister Yu instead. X-rays are bad for your health. If you’re planning to have kids since you just got married, then you can’t stay beside me.”

X-rays mean a chest X-ray, which has significant radiation exposure. Women planning to conceive and pregnant women can’t undergo this examination. If an unpregnant woman has one, she should wait at least six months or more than a year before trying to conceive.

Hearing about having children, Beisitian blushed slightly, said no more, and turned to Sister Yu’s side, where they were conducting ear, nose, and throat examinations.

There were only five veteran officials on today’s examination list. By around ten o’clock, all five had finished their examinations and the team was preparing to wrap up and do data analysis in the afternoon.

Just as they had taken a step out of the examination room door, Nurse Jiang Xiaoyu brought another veteran official over.

Jiang Xiaoyu looked very distressed. This veteran official was very stern. She had told him he wasn’t on today’s list, but he insisted on being examined.

”I’m already here, and you’re telling me I can’t get examined? I have urgent matters to attend to tomorrow, so I must be examined today!”

Having no other choice but to relent to the veteran official’s insistence, Jiang Xiaoyu had to bring him to Shen Junping to see how to handle it.

Shen Junping was also quite helpless about the situation. There were always a few exercising privileges during the annual examinations, and they couldn’t afford to offend these veteran officials.

Some veteran officials became more inclined to exercise privileges after retirement to show they still had value and influence. Shen Junping shook his head silently.

This person was a prime example of exercising privileges in the health team, named Sun Guicai. He was once a deputy divisional commander of the 115th Division and, after retiring, went to the Capital City to enjoy retirement. Because it was close to here, he was arranged to come here for a health examination every year.

Sun Guicai had the rank of lieutenant colonel, which was among the higher ranks among the veteran officials. Even though he had retired, he carried himself with pride.

To him, a small health examination unit should conduct his examination whenever he wanted it. Besides, wasn’t this still not too late?

”Didn’t you say examinations are in the morning? What time is it now?” Sun Guicai said with a frown.

Shen Junping, with a bitter smile, noted it was now 11:58 AM. This veteran official had come in precisely five minutes before, with timing that was just too exact.

Even a quick examination would take at least forty minutes or an hour. He only had ten minutes left to walk in, and this kind of behavior was truly vexing, but no one had a choice as they couldn’t afford to offend these veteran officials.

In the end, they could only go back to their places and conduct the examination for him.

Even during the examination, Sun Guicai wasn’t satisfied and had complaints, making various critical remarks about the process and expressing his displeasure over initially not being accommodated, saying this and that wasn’t good.

He even told Beisitian and Ding Sisi that they shouldn’t let such interns out if they couldn’t even operate the equipment properly and should be pulled back for training before being released!

His words were harsh, and it was clear that the former deputy divisional commander didn’t regard this small health team highly at all.
