Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 971: Losing Her Family

A few minutes ago.

After his return, Nathan went to Vivianʼs house right away, checking her condition.

The sound of the knocking door filled the house as his voice echoed inside, ”Master. Are you there? Have you eaten yet? I have some food here.”

With no response from Vivian, Nathan could only sigh and put it down on the floor. ”I will be leaving your food here, Master. Please make sure you eat.”

At the very least, all the trays he had been leaving in front of the house kept disappearing, so he knew Vivian had been eating or forcing herself to eat. Either way, she was fine.

”Iʼm going again, Master. Please take—!”

Before he finished his words, the door was opened. Nathan wanted to turn back to see Vivian, but the only thing he saw was the dark house and a hand pulling him inside.

In just a moment, Nathan had already sat on the floor, getting pulled down by the woman in front of him.

”…” Nathan didnʼt understand what was going on. He only knew that his teacher seemed to be hugging him as tightly as possible, not wanting to let him go.

Although he could feel that she had become thinner, he noticed the food trays inside this house. They were unfinished, but she still ate to a certain extent.

This was the first time he saw his confident teacher this weak and vulnerable.

After regaining his calm, Nathan glanced to the side, albeit his vision was blocked by her hair. He chose not to say anything, as she might not need any words right now.

Vivian didnʼt say anything for several minutes, but she eventually opened her mouth, saying in a hoarse voice.

”Do you remember… the time we met Grandmaster Robert?”

Nathan looked up. He certainly remembered. The Grandmaster Robert in her mouth was an elder from the Magic Tower who used to work with her late mentor in the past.

”Yes.”

”He mentioned my late mentor, right?”

”Indeed…”

”My mentor… was my first familiar.”

”Huh?!” Nathan was bewildered. He thought the mentor was an elder from the Magic Tower, but he might have misunderstood them the whole time.

”How much do you know about my family? Have you heard anything from my seniors?”

”Nothing much really. All I know is that your family is ruined and you are trying to restore your family.”

Vivian paused for a moment. This was what she was planning to talk about.

”My family was destroyed when I was 12 years old. Both of my parents died against aliens and our family was run over.

”Because of that mess, as well as my potential, a person from the Frexia Academy took me in, planning to have me enroll in the academy once the ena in my body matured.

”And that person was Leyfon.”

”!!!” Nathan knew that Leyfon was the one guiding Vivian back from her depression, but he never thought Leyfon and Vivian were that close.

”He was only a teacher at that time, but thanks to him, I managed to survive in a relatively safe environment. Rebuilding my family was my only motivation at that time and he always encouraged me to do it.

”Ultimately, I enrolled in the Frexia Academy and summoned my first familiar in the entrance exam. That was when I found my mentor.

”He was an old elf. While his strength was limited, his wisdom was unmatched. In the end, Leyfon told me to go to the magic tower.

”At that time, I was confused but still did it. But because of his wisdom, we ended up getting accepted by the magic tower. I was an apprentice back then, but because of my mentor, I managed to rise through the ranks.

”My mentor was acknowledged despite being a familiar, and Grandmaster Robert was one of the first few people who recognized him.

”Back then, I thought that I could do everything. Rebuilding my family would just be a matter of time.

”I worked hard both in my study and also in the summoning expertise. In just one year, I had been recognized in the magic tower and became the top of the second year at that time.

”I was proud and thought that everything was within my grasp. I idolized my seniors, who were even more talented than I was, and I had juniors who admired me.

”Everything would have been perfect… until that day…”

Nathanʼs expression turned grim. It was a day when their lives changed. ”Bloody Banquet.”

Vivian bit her lips. ”Thatʼs right. It was the day I lost my mentor…”

She thought she had moved on, but the thought kept appearing again and again in her mind.

His condition was brutal. Both of his legs were chopped off, his eyes were gouged, and his body was covered in numerous wounds.

However, all those wounds were due to him protecting her. He saw through the enemy and acted the way the enemy wanted, making him the target instead of her… despite having not much strength.

He was tortured in her place. She was overwhelmed with guilt at that time, but she still remembered what she said despite having all those wounds.

Even though his voice was hoarse, his words were clear in her ears. ”Ah, itʼs really a shame. I canʼt see your face anymore… Or else I would have wiped your tears.

”It is unfortunate, but I guess this is the end of me. Vivian… although you are still young, you are much more talented than me. I know you will do just fine in the future.

”Donʼt hate being a summoner. Keep pushing forward and fulfill your goal. Although I canʼt assist you anymore, I will always be watching you.”

There was no need for an apology. All he did was like what he had been doing in the past year, guiding her like her elder. Even though they were together for one year, both of them considered themselves to be father and daughter.

Without him, Vivian couldnʼt achieve all this. But what was even more saddening was that their journey was halted. She… once again… lost her family.
