Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 956: Lifebound Contract

”You… Do you have a time element source in your body?”

”…” Nathan couldnʼt help but furrow his eyebrows. Still, he ultimately nodded his head, confirming it. ”Yes.”

”I see. Innate ability is truly wondrous. They should be the only ones called geniuses, not people like us…” Evelyn looked at Nathanʼs expression, which remained unchanged. ”Youʼre not surprised or playing dumb?”

Nathan could act as if he was confused, which would look pretty real, but he didnʼt. Nathan simply said, ”Thereʼs no need to do that. There are three types of people who should know about this kind of thing. And itʼs not weird if you deduce it as such.”

”Three types, huh?”

”Yeah. The first one is people like you who are aiming for the peak. You will eventually realize the difference between you and the current worldʼs strongest and learn about its existence. It wonʼt be weird for you to figure out my situation.

”The second type will be high-ranking people, who are leading kingdoms or massive organizations.”

”Fair enough.” Evelyn nodded in understanding. ”And the third one?”

Nathanʼs expression turned casual as he said with a rather joking tone. ”Curious mongrels.”

”…” Evelyn didnʼt expect this answer. If Charlotte were here, she would have complained, telling him she was the second type, but for Nathan, Charlotte would always be the third type. ”You seem to have a rough life.”

Nathan shrugged. ”So, what am I supposed to do now that you know about my elemental source?”

”In that case, let me check the form of your source.”

”Sure.”

Evelyn approached him before extending her hand. She ultimately pressed his chest while releasing a bit of her ena, as if she was inspecting his heart.

She was slightly surprised because she couldnʼt find it. Instead, she found the elemental source hiding in the upper abdomen. It was close to all organs in his upper body but also had one vertical channel linking directly to the brain.

This way, it could draw out the power from all organs, including the brain.

”Do you understand how different you are from us?” Evelyn asked.

”Sort of.” Nathan nodded.

Evelyn pinched the bridge of her nose. ”I guess I should start from the very beginning.”

She pressed her left chest and formed multiple translucent blue threads that came from inside her chest to the trees. He didnʼt understand why the threads attached themselves to the trees, but he realized these threads were the representation of summoning links.

”These links are the ones connecting you and your familiar. Since you are Vivianʼs student, you should know about the ena principle. Theyʼre particles that are absorbed into your body and scattered all over your body to strengthen it.

”However, because theyʼre particles, it means theyʼre also being carried around. And whatʼs the thing that carries them around?”

”Blood.” Nathan answered without hesitation.

”Indeed. The blood circulates within your body. Blood has its own destination, but to do a circulation, it always has to pass through one place.”

”The heart.”

”Exactly. All of us have experienced the same phase before becoming a summoner. The first one is to open the ena within our body, wait for its maturity, and summon a familiar.

”Most people learn that waiting for maturity means waiting for more ena to be opened up inside your body. However, thatʼs not entirely the case.

”People can open their ena quickly, but they still have to wait before becoming a summoner. That is because they have to wait for the ena to be concentrated in your heart.

”The ena that has been opened up will be piled up little by little in your heart, which will ultimately become the foundation of your summoning link.

”Once you form this simple foundation, summoning a familiar will become possible. People continue to work hard by getting more ena into their bodies and summoning more familiars.

”Eventually, you will see multiple links like this.” Evelyn pointed at the threads coming from her chest. ”To wield an element, you need to form a lifebound contract. Why? The reason is simple. We donʼt have an elemental source.

”Hence, as a summoner, we need to have an elemental source so that we can wield that kind of power. How? The answer is simple. We have our familiar give it to us.

”However, how can a familiar share their power? The summoning link is only connecting us, nothing else.

”Itʼs actually easy. We just have to make the summoning link become a bridge. Thatʼs why we have to form the lifebound contract.

”The process is pretty simple, but itʼs quite hard to achieve. There are only three requirements for a lifebound contract.

”The first is a sacrificial item to strengthen the summoning link.” Evelyn snapped her finger, levitating a stick on the ground. She moved it toward one of the threads before making it disappear. At the same time, as though the stick influenced it, the blue thread turned brown. In addition, it became much thicker.

”Once we strengthen this summoning link, it will basically look something like this. It has become thicker, which makes it possible to act as a bridge to a certain extent.

”This is the easiest part. However, once you are past this stage, you will find a problem. Now that it can act as a bridge, what do you think the element will think?”

Nathan squinted his eyes. ”If they behave like that of a human, they will cross the bridge to find a new land.”

”Correct!” Evelyn nodded. ”The familiar can try to stop them, but a small amount will leak out. The greater the familiarʼs power, the higher the amount of the leak. And if they donʼt have perfect control, all that energy will enter their summoner.

”Theyʼre like an invasive species. Once they find the new land, they will do anything to benefit from it.

”Some elements are more gentle than others, so they are trying to meet with the locals, but the locals turn out to be the pure ena like their previous ʼlandʼ has, so in the end, the invasion is unstoppable.

”Essentially, fatal.”
