chapter 93: it feels good, but it hurts

a chain of bullets exited the muzzle of the gun.

tang rui felt numb.

it wasn’t an exaggeration; he really felt numb.

his ears were ringing and his hands were a bit numb too.

when he turned around, he saw lin chao behind him already wearing earmuffs.

“darn! why didn’t you give me one?” tang rui shouted.

“speak softly,” lin chao laughed and replied.

“what did you say? speak up!”

“come sit down and rest for a while; you’ll be fine in a moment.”

after a while, tang rui began to feel more comfortable, at least his ears weren’t ringing anymore.

“feels good, doesn’t it?” lin chao asked tang rui, inquiring about his shooting experience.

“absolutely,” tang rui nodded. this feeling of firing with such firepower was truly exhilarating, especially since the targets in front had already been riddled with bullets.

“want to continue?”

“definitely. i want to play until i’m exhausted today.”

“sure, put on the earmuffs and fire away.”

lin chao didn’t take it seriously at all. bullets like these were expensive in civilian gun clubs, but in the military, they were practically worthless.

legend had it that the logistics support base of the fleet was like a mountain hollowed out. they had to dispose of tons of ammunition every year. being a soldier there, before the end of the year, veterans could take out as many bullets as they liked. they didn’t even need to use targets; making targets was a hassle. they could just grab a machine gun, load it up, and start shooting at the sea. so, the bullets tang rui was using were nothing.

with the earmuffs on and the belt loaded, tang rui aimed at the dirt mound in front and fired away. it was much better with earmuffs. although there was still noise, it was bearable, and there was no ringing in his ears.

another 200-round belt was emptied. tang rui glanced at the system panel on the gatling gun.

he had enough experience points to level up, and the experience points for the gatling gun increased with each shot fired. he had just fired 400 rounds, so he now had 400 experience points.

seeing this calculation method, tang rui made up his mind. even if he had to fire until the gun barrel was scrapped, he would stack up thousands of experience points today. when he got back, he could upgrade the gatling gun.

tang rui kept firing. initially, he was shooting randomly without any specific target. later, he started consciously aiming, but his aim wasn’t very accurate. that was okay; he could use the smart glasses to calculate the trajectory and display a red dot to target where he wanted to shoot. it made things much easier.

however, after emptying twenty belts, the gun barrel had suffered some significant wear and tear. the front end was turning red, and he couldn’t use the system’s experience points to repair it in front of everyone, so he had to stop.

“brother lin, do you have any other guns? i want to try something else,” tang rui said, putting the gatling gun aside.

“what would you like to try? pistol, rifle, submachine gun, sniper rifle, shotgun, or light machine gun?” lin chao asked.

“can i try them all?” tang rui asked.

let him choose? not a chance.

“sure,” lin chao nodded. it wasn’t a big deal.

soon, several soldiers brought out many guns and laid them out in front of tang rui.

tang rui looked at the guns in front of him and had a sudden thought. “brother lin, teach me how to disassemble and assemble them.”

“which one do you want to disassemble?” lin chao asked.

“let’s start with the pistol.”

“okay.”

lin chao picked up a pistol and began to disassemble it, explaining to tang rui, “this is the type 92 pistol we use, and it fires 9mm ammunition with a magazine capacity of 15 rounds. disassembling the pistol is very simple. first, remove the magazine, then grip the slide…”

tang rui watched lin chao disassemble it once and understood it. it was indeed quite simple, but when he started to disassemble it, he realized that there was a technique involved.

click! when he reassembled the pistol and loaded the magazine, a faint light flashed on the pistol.

after disassembling and assembling it, the system panel appeared, and he gained 0.1 origin points. not bad at all.

tang rui held the pistol and played with it. “what about bullets?”

“here you go. the bullets are already loaded, but remember, this is a pistol without a stock, and it has significant recoil. you need to hold it steady when you shoot.”

“i know, i’ll give it a try.”

tang rui stepped up to the shooting range, aimed at the target, and fired. bang! the bullet was fired, but he wasn’t sure where it hit. the target was completely clean.

“this has some kick,” he said. despite being startled by the recoil, he appreciated the feedback.

bang! bang! bang! tang rui fired a dozen shots in a row, but only two hit the target, and the highest score was seven rings. he was just shooting blindly; his aim was far from accurate.

“your shooting is not bad,” lin chao commented, looking at the target paper 10 meters away. “you want to give it a try?”

tang rui put down the pistol and let lin chao have a turn. “sure, show me your skills.”

“watch carefully.” lin chao reloaded the magazine, aimed at the target, and fired five shots in a row. all hit the bullseye.

“seriously? 1 didn’t know you were such a sharpshooter, brother lin,” tang rui exclaimed.

“sharpshooter? with my skills, even a field unit wouldn’t want me. who shoots at 10 meters? most start at 30 meters, and many go for 50 meters,” lin chao replied without much enthusiasm.

tang rui praised him, but if lin chao admitted it, he would be ridiculed. shooting bullseyes at 10 meters wasn’t much of an accomplishment.

“okay, okay, 1 admit i’m no match for you.”

tang rui had to admit his inferiority. it was his first time shooting a pistol, so being inexperienced was normal.

next, he didn’t just try pistols but also had a go with other firearms. the most memorable was the grenade launcher, which almost shattered his shoulder. he had to lie on the ground, and the recoil pushed him back several centimeters. it was quite frightening, but the power of that gun was no joke; it created a massive crater on the mound. if it had hit a person, there might not have been much left.

after a full day of shooting, his shoulder turned purple and was in considerable pain. what had been exhilarating earlier now hurt immensely.

“i’ll buy you some medicine when we get back. apply it, and you’ll be fine in a couple of days,” lin chao said.

“my whole shoulder feels like it’s going to be useless. i can’t even lift my arm without feeling pain.”

“come on, it’s nothing. you’ll be fine in a couple of days.”

lin chao had seen this situation many times, especially with beginners. when they fired, if they didn’t hold the stock properly, it was easy for this to happen..
